Flozell fined again

On Tuesday evening, we showed you how old habits die hard when it comes to Cowboys tackle Flozell Adams and his propensity for tripping opponents.

The NFL was looking at the same footage of Adams kicking Julius Peppers, and decided to fine Flozell $7,500 for the offense, according to Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News.  That’s $5,000 less than Adams was fined last week for leg whipping Justin Tuck, and $2,500 more than Adams was fined in Week One for an unnecessary roughness penalty.

(If only the league kept track of records like most consecutive weeks with a fine.  Adams could be football’s Joe Dimaggio.)

Cowboys running back Felix Jones was also fined $5,000 for an attempted leg whip against Carolina.  Jones is fully expected to miss this week’s game against Denver, but was coy when asked about his status Wednesday, saying “we’ll see.”

Flozell should try MMA when done playing football. A good leg kick can be highly effective!

he should be suspended, not fined.

  3. Levito says: Sep 30, 2009 2:13 PM

Good, but when do the suspensions come? The idiot has already caused Tuck to miss an entire half against the Cowpatties, plus he played only 8 snaps against Tampa Bay. It’s just a matter of time before it’s a more serious injury to someone.
Of course the Cowpatty homers will say this guy is still a top-notch tackle and hasn’t given up a single sack this season. But it’s easy not to allow a sack when you trip everyone who beats you.

  6. Forever21 says: Sep 30, 2009 2:16 PM

What is the NFL doing? He should be suspended. You can’t trip every time you get burned. If he can’t block he should be on the bench. The league is always trying to protect qbs, what about d-linemen? They are always getting blocked illegally or tripped, is it gonna take a serious injury for them to get the message? Wake up Roger!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Wrathchild says: Sep 30, 2009 2:17 PM

It’s just not enough of a fine to convince a guy who makes millions of dollars a year to stop.

  8. JAYMAC says: Sep 30, 2009 2:17 PM

Does this site only post Cowboys fines? Im sure dozens of other players got fined as well!! Just curious if the guy that slammed Witten to the ground 10 seconds after the whistle blew got fined??

  9. nittanylion0 says: Sep 30, 2009 2:29 PM

i like calling it leg whipping and not tripping… what Flo is doing is more like kicking opposing defensive linemen right in their knee cap. no doubt the NFL will eventually suspend him if he keeps getting busted doing it… and all eyes will be on him for the rest of the season.
Rosenthal… Flo was fined last week for tripping Tuck AND Osi Umenyiora. he didn’t get flagged for Osi’s trip, which sets up this week’s fine. expect him to get fined $7,500 for each trip caught on film until the above-mentioned suspension gets levied.
cue up Vox and the Dallas apologists.

  10. Bill In DC says: Sep 30, 2009 2:31 PM

Jones fine & penalty breaks new ground in the NFL. I guess the fine was for being inept?
The definition of ‘tripping’ in the NFL rule book is ‘a player using his foot or leg to trip an opposing player’. It says nothing about ‘attempting to trip’ being a penalty. The video clearly shows that Jones never touched the player so I’m really not sure how it was a penalty, or how it merits a fine.
I can’t wait now for the new penalties to be called.
    “Attempting to rough the passer”
“Attempting to grab the facemask, but missing” (maybe even ‘clearly thinking about grabbing the facemask’)
“Attempted unnecessary roughness, but he never touched the player”

  11. jkidd49 says: Sep 30, 2009 2:32 PM

In the end, it won’t matter! Dallas is in for a rude awakening as the season progresses. Rom-0-Choke is not even a top 10 QB…far worse when December rolls around! That’s why he wasn’t drafted, and all the “big boy” programs passed him up. He’s been coddled to this point…but that all changes when Dallas misses the playoffs…AGAIN!! Oh, I’ll have my popcorn!!

  24. brewcrewe says: Sep 30, 2009 3:21 PM

As a Cowboy fan, I will be the first to admit I often scream at my tv due to stupid penalties by Flozell Adams. The tripping thing does’t bother me though. Lineman around the league use any method, including tripping, to block a guy. It is no different from grabbing a jersey or punching a defender(if you think none of this goes on, you have never played football). I just want him to stop with the false starts. If Justin Tuck does’t get hurt in week 2, nobody would have fined Flozell for tripping then or last week.

  25. VOX JONES says: Sep 30, 2009 3:21 PM

The guy he’s going up against this week, Elvis Dumervil, leads the league with 6 sacks.
With that in mind, I’d put the over/under on flags & fines for Aunt Flo this week at:
    3 fouls
    .5 fine
Smart $$ is betting the over, on both.

You guys know I’m a lifelong Steeler fan, so I’m not backing Flozell here out of some sense of loyalty to the Cowpukes or their owner who reminds me of Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers movies. I’m waiting for him to show up at a presser with Mr. Bigglesworth the cat at his side.
However, I watched the tape on Flozell’s “trip”, and I noticed that the Carolina defender was delayed by about a nanosecond as he stumbled forward into the pile of tacklers on the play.
WTF does Goodell expect? These are the trenches – nobody goes in there that isn’t at least 6 foot, 250, and you better be a lot bigger if you are going to take on Adams straight up. Leg whipping and little tripping attempts are the very least of a defenders’ worries who wants to play D-line or linebacker in the No Fun League. I’m sure there are about a billion groin shots, thrown elbows, kicks, eye-gouges, gut punches, titty-twisters, wedgies, and anything else you can imagine going on throughout any NFL game in the trenches.
Get over it, NFL. The dude is 340+ pounds of nastiness, and he is paid good money to be a mean-ass MF’er. You think these guys are playing patty-cakes in there?
Memo to D-linemen – if you are waiting for the refs or the league office to keep you safe in the trenches, you might as well book your surgical suite at the hospital now.

FLO STARTS ADAMS…the guys is the most penalized the last four seasons. False Start boy. John madden was right about him, hes a bum. Leads the league in false starts and holds every yr.
STOP CHEATING FLO! i love dallas fans rebuttals “hes so big, no one can get by him, hes a beast and can beat you up, hes so big” the only thing bigger are the mouths you use to wrap around his ashy cheating false start leg whipping dick.

if this is true, if/when it happens, expect the players who did it to not only be fined a huge amount, but also suspended for a huge amount of time. i’m aware there are bounties on players, but those are just to get a big lick in and possibly knock them out for a game, not to end a career. its like the same thing with people talking about how they wished someone would take out tom brady during his record setting season. just ain’t gonna happen…
also, seriously? how many players throughout the years have been tripped and nothing happened. tuck’s incident was just a freak occurence. its not when flozell trips the next guy their head is going to fly off and explode. get over it. its football. i’m very positive that not only jerry jones but the entire team would much rather have flozell trip some cupcake glass shoulder pussy like tuck than let him bullrush right through and annihilate his qb. the dude is getting paid big bucks to protect the qb by any means necessary. he seems to be doing a great job.

  40. Chandler Bing says: Sep 30, 2009 4:47 PM

He has a reputation for dirty play (in this case, tripping) therefore he’s under more scrutiny.
Flozell (still amazed anyone saddles a boy with that name) is in a quandary:
Play dirty, escalating the fines, or play clean & get Gomer sacked.

He was laughable in the second half of the 07 playoff game vs the giants, he couldnt even breathe out there, it was mainly his fault romo had so much pressure on him that game. Its so funny hearing these pathetic haters and their third grade level insults. LMAO The fact remains Flozell Adams is a top 5 LT in the NFL. Deal with it. Tell him to his face what you are saying on here. This 6’7 350 pound beast of a man would effortlessly crush any one of you. Be honest with yourselves, you are intimated by what this man has done to your precious lineman, burying them easily and allowing MB3, Felix and Tashard to run rampant on all of your teams. Dallas has the most rushing yards in the NFL this season.
