The Seahawks coaching staff is planning to play this week without quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and left tackle Walter Jones.
Jones hasn’t played in a game yet this season, and was a game-time decision for last week’s loss against the Bears. He’s still experiencing pain in his oft-repaired left knee.
Hasselbeck, meanwhile, still can’t run and is struggling to take a deep breath because of his broken rib. (Running and breathing: often integral to football.) Having Hasselbeck play on turf against the Colts without Jones by his side (Or Jones’ backup Sean Locklear, also out) sounds like a recipe for disaster anyhow.
Seattle will have to pull off a major upset with Seneca Wallace leading the way to avoid a 1-3 start, but it did get some positive injury news Wednesday.
Linebacker Lofa Tatupu is expected to return to the lineup and Ken Lucas, tackle
Brandon Frye, guard Rob Sims and free safety Jordan
Babineaux should all play.
The Seahawks had to activate two offensive lineman Wednesday off their practice squad “just to make sure we could practice” according to Mora. Linebacker William Thomas and wide receiver Logan Payne were cut to make room.
Just to clarify — although of course I wasn’t at the presser — the Seahawks signed two offensive linemen to the practice squad (Na’Shan Goddard and Brian DeLaPuenta) rather than activating two OL off of their practice squad to the 53 man roster. Both Goddard and DeLaPuenta were with the Seahawks in camp but were cut earlier in the season. William Thomas and Logan Payne were cut from the practice squad top make room.
The bottom line is the Seahawks can’t win without Hasselbeck. As long as he’s out, they will continue to lose.
It’s admirable that Hasselbeck was trying to dive for a TD but this is what happens. It’s an unecesary hit to take-ask Drew Bledsoe! Mark Sanchez is lucky that nothing bad happened to him when he did it last week. NFL teams have way too much invested in QBs for them to be throwing their bodies around like that. One TD run play won’t change your season. Being out 3 games while your team goes 0-3 will. And Seahawks will lose to the Colts so 0-3 is there.
Without the “Hass” this team is DOOMED!
maybe seneca can suck again, housh can fumble again, and the defense can let the other team pass all over the field again, so we can hear mora blame it on the kicker.
sweet!
