Though the Associated Press article regarding Brett Favre’s conference call with the Green Bay media focuses only on whether Favre is out for revenge against the Packers on Monday night, there’s a far more intriguing angle to the session.
Favre sounded like anything but the “aw, shucks” guy that we see when the cameras are on.
He also finds a way to wedge into the discussion a reference to his partial torn biceps tendon and he comes closer than ever to expressly citing the injury for his play down the stretch last year.
Later in the call, he again launches into an extended discussion of the injury that contributed to the Jets’ late-season slide in 2008.
UPDATE: As one member of the media told us, “I’ve never heard [Favre] like that. Awkward, contentious, defensive.”

Sounds like he hasn’t had a good BM in a while. Maybe he needs some more prune juice so he can make #2 in his adult diapers.
What is your motivation ? What a dumb a$$ question to ask, what the hell motivates any player to play in the NFL ? What could possibly be better than playing in the NFL, Investment banker ?
When you watch Favre jump up and down after a score its pretty damn obvious why he’s still playing the game.
Fk the media, all they’re interested in is dirt so they can sell their papers or get clicks on their web sites.
Who cares. I’ll just watch the game, thanks.
If the Green Bay media and fan base can’t appreciate what Brett Favre did for the Packers over the years, what exactly would he have to have done? Throw 500 touchdowns? Win every game? You guys had one of the best quarterbacks in the game. Appreciate what he did for you. He took your franchise out of the wasteland and made you winners.
I don’t see him getting grumpy…I see him getting annoyed with the whole Injury/Ted Thompson thing. Just imagine, everywhere Favre goes this week he has a reporter in his face asking him about Ted Thompson.
He wasn’t grumpy — just impatient. The Denny’s early bird special only lasts from 5 to 6PM.
As a DieHard Packer fan, I am sick and tired of everyone trying to bash Brett. Just kidding, he is a lying traitor, please continue. BTW, the Vikings deserve him. how do you like our sloppy seconds viking fan (the lower case v is on purpose). Good luck on Monday to the St. Paul D-Bags.

Juicy Melon—Why would Favre expect anything else? I didn’t get the grumpy part either though.
Okay seriously, is Florio okay? He spoke glowingly of Favre earlier today, now the biceps injury comes up and there are no references to swine flu, polio, hangnails, bubonic plague, SARS, menstruation, or anything else!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH FLORIO???

Actually, Ron Wolf did more to bring this franchise back because this man failed his initial physical with the Packers until Wolf said pass him..he was a washed up QB with the Falcons until Mike Holmgren molded him and yell all you want, but Mike McCarthy is molding Aaron Rodgers into a very good quarterback as well.
Media’s trying to bait Favre now. 1st TO now Brett. Mofos . C’mon it’s their job. It just aint working on BF.
It’s going to be an all out war come Monday night.
I thought he came off well. He was real, which is a true rarity when he talks to the media most of the time. His compliments to A-Rod were very classy.
Now I hope the Packers beat his brains in! Metaphorically speaking, of course.

gee, how dare Favre be on the defensive when the Wisconsin Media is on the attack. WHAT A PRIMA DONA! lol
Hey, can you blame the Wisconsin media though? They finally have a story for the first time in over a year. Covering the Ted Thompson Packers can be a pretty boring job.

well said.
i didn’t hear where he was grumpy about anything. thanks for exagerrating though.
Bit of a stretch here, isn’t it? Favre didn’t understand the question, and didn’t stop talking when the reporter tried to straighten him out on what he said. When the reporter tried again, he did a poor job of it, and Favre again was misunderstanding. He didn’t sound terribly grumpy, just sounded as if he felt he needed to correct the record on the matter.
However it is much better for you guys if there is some sort of revenge factor, so you will continue to insist that one is there.
Wow, i thought for the most part great questions. Better than the Minnesota media constantly asking him what’s it like to play with AP.
I didn’t think he sounded grumpy at all, he just sounded annoyed. Maybe Chilly wasn’t around this morning to wipe his ass, he probably has a good excuse.
I Favred Favre’s Favre. Favre Favre’s Favredy Favre? Faaaavvvvrrrreeee….

Ok, look, Favre was always appreciated in GB. I understand why Packer fans would hate him now. He’s a rival, everyone knows he wants revenge on the Packers. Fans care about the present, the past is not as important as winning now. He has alienated Packers fans and it’s a shame that the fans won’t be cheering for him anymore. He could have retired as the Brett the Packer. Now he’ll retire as a Viking… unless he wants to retire and unretire again and miss training camp for yet another year

Yeah he was payed well to do what he did in Green Bay, it was his job! You act as if Favre did Green Bay a favor, no that’s what he was being payed for!
This game is gonna be HUGE!!! Just the story lines alone are a great reason to watch this game. Expect huge ratings. Expect a new wrinkle to be thrown in by Dom Capers in his defense, maybe “Big Okie” will have its desired effect this time around. ( Like possibly getting a line backer to get a clean bone-crunching hit on Brent. )
Actually I’d just be happy to get the “W” now, and get that big hit later on in Lambeau Field!
Either way there’s gonna a few body bags brought into this game.
Hopefully they’ll be carrying Viqueens in those after all is said and done!
GO PACK GO!!!

really, he was washed up after one year in the league?
Was it all of the green bay media both reporters or did the weekly clipper have to cover another chesse shop opening ???
Media in Green Bay they wake up every morning and say today is the day I go to a big city
They had a choice report in GB or the north pole and the guy with more time picked the north pole
And Lord Brett was testy because he was late for his afternoon nap
Ahhh, back to the “typical” Florio, Favre post.
After 2 minutes of clarity earlier, the Olbermann-esque Florio rears his ugly head.

Yup. We’re enjoying him. Thanks for your concern!
Oh, and a +1 to you for the most inventive play on our team name I’ve honestly ever heard: from “Vikings” to “D-Bags”…get it!? Brilliant!
Drunken ‘Sconies should be thankful Favre still allows them his time.
Hell, if THAT’S grumpy, I wonder what Lou Pinella or Mike Ditka pressers would be considered?
Silly, really. If anybody caught Brett’s presser after the game last Sunday, you’d see he got a little short with a Vikings’ reporter when he asked one of those dandies that only a Sally-boy journalist could come up with – something stupid about whether that 32 TD pass means the offense will “throw down the field more” – I mean, there is obviously still to little unemployment if idiots like these reporters still remain gainfully employed.
Are Packer fans so mad now that they don’t want Farve going in to the Hall of Fame as a Packer? Because if they are then I am sure he would look good in purple, if not then shut up.
“only a Sally-boy journalist could come up with”
Quick question: what year is it? 1963? Are you going to meet up with all the fellas for malts? Sleep in your letter jacket?
What an incredible stretch by Florio to say Favre was grumpy. Back to the Favre-bashing, eh Mike ? I’m guessing most if not all of the commenters here have not listened to the actual 25 minute press conference, nor apparently Florio either.
More Olbermann-ization of the news is that Florio failed to report that writer Jason Wilde (noted Favre hater here in Wisconsin) actually apologized for getting the quote “revenge” wrong to Favre. Twice. Wilde no longer writes for the Wisconsin State Urinal anymore and NO ONE here misses him … one … single … bit.
You must have just “forgot” to mention his apologies though, right Mike ???
You gotta love Brett.

We like it all the way to yet another Division Championship, and into the playoffs. A better question is, how do Packer fans like going 13-3 with “washed up ‘ol Brett” to 6-10 with the 2nd coming?

Not a single mention of his taint.
Don’t worry–I’m sure he’ll discuss it plenty once he goes into full-blown excuse mode at season’s trainwreck end
(as opposed to the partial, pre-emptive excuse-making mode he lives in now, constantly).

Fan_of_Four, you are such a Favre nut slurping idiot that you can’t see anything that’s relative to old Brent that paints him in a bad light. Do you not read anything that Favre has talked about? He already stated that his motivation for coming back is to “stick it to Ted Thompson”. Given that statement, why is that such a ridiculous question to ask of him? Step in to the world of reality. Your stupid comments show to be anything but.
# Fan of Football says: October 1, 2009 8:01 PM
“12>4″
Of course, that is mathematical fact.
This is also fact: Favre>Rodgers
———————-
Considering Rodgers put up better passing stats than the NFL MVP and Favre sucked last season AND Favre will be hard pressed to put up even close to Rodgers stats this year at this rate, I’d say you might be a bit off base with that stupid comment.
Do you know Dom Caper’s is 0-6 when coaching defense against Favre, who has a 108 passer rating with 18 TDs and 8 INTs over that span?
What wrinkle in this newly converted defense will stop Favre Monday night?
First of all, I’d be grumpy too.. it sounded like the moderator chick had never run a conference call before…and they were trying to make him look bad… I’ve never understood the media’s slant on this topic; McCarthy and Thompson turned an NFC Conference Championship team into a 6-10 team just so they could get all the credit for creating the Packers in their own image, and shoving Aaron Rodgers down the Packers fans throat as the second coming…Rodgers puts up decent stats , but until he wins an important game for the Pack and leads them to the playoffs; that conference championship loss( that Favre was the QB for) will be the high water mark of this coach-GM combo…. Put ther blame where it belongs; they won’t win anything with these guys running the show.
I didn’t think Favre sounded overly defensive or contentious at all. It was pretty awkward the way he brought up last year’s injury a few times, though.
Having said that, I also don’t think the GB media was really trying to bait him, either. Remember this is a group who covered him for 16 years and never had the opportunity to ask these questions about his departure. They’ve been waiting a year and a half to ask these questions. I was slightly surprised to hear 0 questions about Monday night’s game, but not at all surprised that his relationship with Thompson, his departure from GB and his failure to make (and stick with) retirement decisions dominated the conference call.
And for anyone who insists that they were being argumentative or baiting him, realize that they were only using his own quotes against him. They were asking him about things he’s said in the past and he was deflecting in his answers. No real surprises, really.
Very interesting the way he deflected that question about him asking for his release from the Jets, though. No answer given there at all. He just basically said that it doesn’t matter. That question he deflected poorly, and he really doesn’t have an answer. Not one that wouldn’t make him look manipulative and scheming, anyway.

I am a women. I am NOT a football fan. I live within 50 miles of Green Bay, and I’m not a fan of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
What I AM, is a human being, and a BIG fan of human decency and respect.
I think it was humiliating for Ted Thompson, Mike Murphy and Mike McCarthy to ask Brett Favre to compete with Aaron Rogers for the position of quarterback.
They have had Rogers for years, and have never let him play or get any experience. He got sacked a dozen times in the Rams game.
Brett Farve has been the Packers “Golden Boy,” for a long time. Brett Favre IS the Packers. Brett Favre IS Green Bay.
The Packers is a business. Game attendance is down. Kicking Brett Favre to the curb as a BAD business move.
Yes, he does keep bringing up his injury.
WHY? I predict that after this game, Brett Favre WILL retire from football, blaming his injury. With his dignity. And laugh all the way back to New Orleans.
If you’re going to go out, you might as well do it in a BLAZE OF GLORY. GO BRETT.
P.S.: Being from Ohio, this brings back painful memories of what they did to Marge Schotte. They threw her under the bus, making her sell her beloved REDS. Even after her year long suspension.
I listened to the entire interview yesterday. he sounded like someone that knew what stupid questions were going to be asked and like he had better things to do. Which he does. preperation. The hint of grumpiness was at the beginning when there was confusion as to if there was a connection on the call
I will say this. he did dodge the why didn’t you stay in New york question. To this day I have absolutely no idea as to why the Jets just outright released him from the remaining two years of his deal.

There’s more disinformation in this than information. I don’t even know where to start. I guess I’d just ask why you think Favre could leave “with his dignity” after leaving Minnesota in the lurch mid-season like that.
And why is he moving to New Orleans all of a sudden? Also, Aaron Rodgers was sacked twice in the St Louis game, not a dozen times. Favre was also sacked twice in his game last week.
Game attendance is down? Care to offer some supporting evidence of that? Also, you said the Packers are a business.. OK. Do they care about game attendance? No, they care about ticket and merchandise sales. Ticket sales are not down. I don’t know how the merchandise is selling. I do know Rodgers’ #12 is in the top 20 jersey sellers. Favre is much higher up the list, but he’s wearing those ugly purple jerseys now. That’s why his sales are up.
To: Adam-Chris Scheftersen (Hey Wilde – is that you ???)
Funny that you say you don’t miss Wilde, but then go on to cite his, ahem, “accomplishments” – which means either Adam-Chris Scheftersen (it took 2 people to write that email ???) is a liar, or it’s Wilde himself.
Well, here are some F-A-C-T-S on Jason Wilde. The Wisconsin State Urinal paid him to GO AWAY. You can call it a buyout or whatever, but they made the decision they’d rather pay him to leave, than pay him to stay. You don’t see other newspapers doing that with writers they want to keep. As to ESPNMadison.com – have you seen their ratings ???? HAHAHAHAHAHA what a joke. Even in a sports town like Madison they consistantly rank about 19th out of 22 radio stations. Buy hey, they beat the polka station … barely !! As to Homer – he has almost NO listeners. His rating is at 0.1 which means that ole Homer bangs out 1 listener out of every 1000 people. That means untold dozens are listening at any one time. Maybe a couple hundred on a good day. Woo Hoo. And Wilde’s own weekly radio show ???? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no one listens to that.
What’s the matter, PackFan? Wilde didn’t kiss Favre’s ass with enough tongue for your liking? You can disparage him all you want, but he’s the most even-headed and least homer reporter I’ve heard. But maybe that’s your thing. Maybe you just want to hear guys talk about how the Packers will go undefeated and unchallenged all year. I prefer a touch of reality.
Packer fans are the worst scumbag fans in the NFL…
I’m sure Favre’s glad to be rid of the ignorant hillbillies…
