Maybe Harrah’s needs to rethink its relationship with Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
In addition to finding itself embroiled in a nasty lawsuit brought by a Harrah’s employee who claims that Roethlisberger sexually assaulted her in July 2008, Harrah’s now faces a claim that, in the same month, an employee of Harrah’s Cabo Wabo Cantina was fired after asking a woman who was with Roethlisberger to produce proof that she was over the age of 21.
Alvaro Brito was the assistant manager of the establishment, and he claims that, after asking to see the woman’s ID, Roethlisberger and the woman mocked Brito’s accent and verbally abused him.
Brito contends that he tried to call security, but that they weren’t available.
Eventually, the ID was produced. Brito alleges that Roethlisberger later said he planned to inform Harrah’s president, John Koster, about the incident.
And, within days, Brito was fired. He says that the company cited the incident with Roethlisberger in terminating Brito’s employment.
Of course, it’s possible that Brito got out of line during the discussion; for now, the only side of the story that’s available is Brito’s.
Still, even if Harrah’s ultimately is vindicated, the company will have to fork over a nice chunk of its gambling revenues in order to pay its lawyers.
And Harrah’s can ultimately thank Big Ben for it. (The lawyers can thank him, too.)

It’s my understanding from people I know that have had exeriences with him, in work and in social settings that he is not a Prima Donna athlete or a bad guy. He’s just kind of… a jerk. That’s just his reputation. Hey it happens. I hate to speak ill of the dead (or so I read here)but some people didn’t like Bradshaw as a person either. Ben still does all his charity work, and he does a lot. He also is a great teammate, never taking credit and always taking blame. And he is a good leader on the field. So we love him as a quarterback, he says and does the right things for the most part, and he does the most important things (charity and win championships).

Well, the basis behind including Harrah’s in the rape lawsuit was that John Koster’s management essentially whored out their staff for Roethlisberger’s pleasure, so this second lawsuit appears to support Andrea’s claim that she experienced professional repercussions as a result of an unwanted encounter with Roethlisberger.
It’s just a shame that people like these plaintiffs develop expectations of celebrities to be good human beings, and then they end up getting screwed when they have to deal with the reality of the superhuman ego. It now looks like he was an asshole to everyone he encountered at Harrah’s, and the ones who didn’t take it quietly were canned. Thanks to the American judicial system, there are no “little people” and celebrities of all types would do well to take a lesson from all this.

I really don’t get it when people become upset when they are carded. Unless of course you are under 21. In my experience 99% of the people I’ve carded quickly produce their ID and get a drink.

My wife went to MU with him, and he had this lifestyle at the time. Ran the campus. Went wherever, did whatever, went to a class or two, played football. That was his resume. Tried to get one or two professors in trouble, but it didn’t stick. He wants his way, and typically he gets it, so it is not a stretch for me to believe that he wanted someone fired for giving his friend some grief. I will still give the benefit of the doubt for the rape charge, but I believe this one.

I’m giong to tell you people something right now. My 18 year old cousin, when she was diagnosed with Lupus at the age of 16, got to go through the Make a Wish foundation and her wish was to meet Ben. Of course he agreed, and he couldn’t have been a better guy. As a matter of fact he made it so she got to meet the entire Steelers team. He signed autographs and gave them tickets to the game.
So yeah, he does do a lot of charity work, I know that first hand.

One of the sales guys for my company played LB for Miami of Ohio while Ben was there – said he was a prima donna even back then. Guy’s got a huge head, literally and figuratively.

While I think it’s great that Ben did that for your cousin, it doesn’t make him a great man. It’s very possible to do volunteer work, and still be a horrible person. Mark Chmura was involved in a lot of charities, and we all know about his sexual assault case. Mike Vick also was involved in charity, he did quite a bit for the Virginia Tech shooting victims.
And yes, I can criticize Ben from my “ivory tower,” because I have never raped anyone, or put myself in a situation to even be accused of it. And I’ve never taunted and ridiculed a night club employee for asking my date for her ID, or any of the other dick mover Ben pulls. Maybe if this was the first time something like this has happened, he could get the benefit of doubt, but when it’s a recurring theme, the guy deserves to be trashed.

You know, if the Squealers had either Tom Brady, Drew Brees, or Peyton Manning on this team instead of old Toothlessberger, they would have won at least the last 4 Super Bowls in a row, if not more.
Toothy is vastly overrated. Your team’s defense is what won the team those titles. Toothy was mostly just along for the ride.
Hell, I could have been their QB and they still would have won 2 Super Bowls with that loaded defense covering for me. And I never played QB past the sandlots. Just think how many titles any decent NFL QB would have won.
This young season has shown you that Toothy can’t win it by himself like Brady or Manning can. Those guys didn’t ever have great defenses so the team relied on them to win ballgames. So far this season, the running game isn’t helping out so Zittsburgh’s offense is going through Toothy. And is he winning? No, because the defense has key injuries so they can’t cover Toothy’s ass for him anymore.
Better hope your boy Troy P. gets back soon & at 100% and that the team can find a running game someplace and also fix the leaky OL and that iffy kicking game.

A bit of bad news for the person who said Big Ben is among the top ranked QB’s this year… having more INT’s than TD’s doesn’t put you in that top tier, it puts you into the Jamarcus Russel group.

While the Alabama game is at commercial, let me note that Ben was ranked 5th on one of the best lists this week, but since I can’t remember which, I’ll stick to a couple of the week 4 fantasy rankings:
NFL.com has him at 10 and Russell at 27.
ESPN has Ben at 9 and Russell didn’t make their top 25.
Not sure where your loyalties lie, but those same lists have Flacco at 9 and 10 respectively, while Palmer’s at 11 and 12. If Ben’s a big bust, what does that say about your guys?

Sorry to burst your bubble but what it says to me is that the media (especially ESPN) is buying into the hype and overrating this guy.
I’m sorry but 17 TDs and 15 INTs is not the kind of numbers elite QBs put up. Too many INTs for a run-first team and too few TD passes for a QB considered to be “elite” by some. If he was so “elite” then why are the Steelers wasting his talents? Put Peyton Manning (or Tom Brady) on this team and see if he puts up only 17 TD passes and see if he throws 15 INTs. Chances are neither would happen.
Look, if your team wins titles with B.R. then why should you even care? I’m sure when it gets right down to the nitty-gritty, it doesn’t matter who the QB on the team is or how well (or bad) he plays, just so long as the team wins it all.
The QB on a team I rooted for could be awful but as long as they won the title, I couldn’t care less myself. What good is it having a Dan Marino-type QB when the team he plays for never wins?
I’d rather have the titles myself. That said, if my QB wasn’t as good as he is being portrayed to be, I’d say so. I wouldn’t delude myself into thinking he’s better than he really is. I’d accept him for who he really is, especially if the team wins.
Like I said, what difference does it make if he puts up HOF numbers or not, just as long as the team wins. Ravens fans were happy with Trent Dilfer when he was the QB during their title season. But very few would ever tell you they thought he was a great QB, being in the same league as Manning or Brady. He just wasn’t. Dilfer had his role to play and in that season he did it well. The reason Baltimore won the title was mostly due to their defense and their running game. Dilfer’s job was mostly to manage the game and try not to do things to hurt the team. I see Roethlisberger as being in the same situation, more or less.
I know Steeler fans hate to hear that. But it’s not like I’m the only one who believes that, either.
Well, steeler-hater, I can’t argue with that. I was just explaining to Majik Man that Ben is performing signicantly better than Russell and on a par with Flacco and Palmer. But if you ask who among today’s QBs I’d vote into Canton, for now I’d say Peyton Manning, Brady, and Favre. So there’s no bubble to burst.
Actually, I’m a defensive kind of girl. The only Team O jersey I own is a classic #12–but I’m thinking of buying #7 because Ben’s the first QB in a long time to really lead our team. And he’s better than you give him credit for being. Santonio ran the wrong route last week. You know all too well a lot of INTs go into the QB’s stats but they’re not all QB errors.
Ben isn’t a Hall of Famer–yet. But he’s a very good QB, a strong leader, a great clutch player, and one of the best in the league at making something out of nothing. The media likes him because he’s exciting to watch. And I appreciate the class he shows on the field. (He may be a jerk off the field–I don’t know. On the field, he’s classy.) Mostly I love him because he’s helped lead my team to two more Lombardi Trophies–and no, I wouldn’t trade those for passing records.
We’ll see eventually whether Flacco lives up to his hype and Dilfer’s execution. Speaking of Flacco, I’m sure you’re watching the game right now. I’m following it on NFL RedZone. Hope it doesn’t burst your bubble to know I’m cheering (reluctantly since I can’t stand them, but passionately) for the Pats. And I’m hoping that tonight Ben lives up to what you think is his hype and what I think is a lot of talent.
