Every time I try to start my midday nap, Florio texts me with more breaking news. This time, the AFC and NFC Players of the Month for September.
Stop the presses. (We do have presses, don’t we Florio?)
In the AFC, the winners are . . . for the offense, Indy’s Peyton Manning; for the defense, the aforementioned Antwan Odom; for the special teams Denver kicker Matt Prater.
Drew Brees was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month, Packers corner Charles Woodson wins for the defense, and Eagles returner DeSean Jackson is the special teams winner.
In what’s shaping up as an early race for 2009 quarterbacking supremacy, Manning threw for 983 yards, seven touchdowns, and two picks in leading the Colts to 3-0. Brees has thrown for 841 with nine touchdowns and two picks. Six of his touchdown throws for the 3-0 Saints came in Week One.
If things keep going as they are, I would think Manning could have the better year over Brees. Manning is a more consistent passer and Indy keeps churning out weapons for him to pass to e.g., Garcon.
Manning deserves it based soley on his peformance vs Miami. Who holds the ball for a quarter and still wins the game?
Brees 6 of 9 tds came against Detriot.
Nuff said.
Flacco for MVP.
brady will get hot and catch up, especially if they have the threat of the run. play action to randy might be a term you start to hear a lot. the scary part about the pats is that they ran for 2300 yards last year, so they obviously know how to run the ball. when the passing game gets hot, they will resume being the best offense in football.
Just give it to John St. Clair. How many other RT give up 4 sacks in one game?!
Way to go Woodson! At least we have one guy playing with fire on our defense!
SgtSigma.. you and the whole world need to understand its not the colts finding weapons for peyton…. its peyton being peyton.. marcus pollard gone. brandon stokley gone .. marvin gone. he makes WR. thats why hes the best. garcon dont get me wrong is reallly fast. but he came from a division 3 school come on now.
MVP Race:
What is your order?
Flacco
Eli
Peyton
Brees
Gotta agree with my fellow Coltfan here…Peyton could make my 8 year old son a Pro-Bowler.
Yep. Brees is pedestrian after Game 1. No need to blitz him. Yeah, RIGHT.
Peyton Manning is the greatest quarterback to ever strap on a helmet. Brady this, Montana that, they can all worship at the feet of the king.
Eli’s not in the MVP race, sorry Charlie.
Just to let you all know…we don’t mind that a home town boy is at the top of his game this year. Although we do feel Brees is the man even though he didn’t do what he did in the first two games. Brees was and still is a GREAT QB and doesn’t mind giving up his numbers so that the TEAM can win…offense and defense.
As for you RIP_21–it doesn’t matter who the TD throws were against, he still put up the numbers and he is STILL the leader of the 4-0 Saints….and don’t forget it.
