Derrick Ward expected to miss Redskins game

Tampa’s offense has its work cut out for it against an angry Redskins team with first-time starting quarterback Josh Johnson at the helm.

On Friday, the team learned its job would be even tougher with running back Derrick Ward expected to miss the game after sitting out his third straight practice.  Ward started at running back over Cadillac Williams last week, but Williams should get the nod Sunday.

Earnest Graham, battling a hamstring injury of his own, will back Williams up.

And even though losing to the Lions was embarrassing from a public relations standpoint, we’d argue that a home loss to Tampa would be a bigger crime.  Detroit looks like a more competitive team than Tampa this year, that game was on the road, and Johnson doesn’t have the same talent as Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.

(Plus Florio’s Super Bowl pick doesn’t need to look any worse than it already does.)

Great news for the Redskins, awful news for my fantasy team.

anyone that picked the Redskins or Bucs to make it to the superbowl should have their heads examined, i dont know if you have any NFL credibility after making such a pick….

You are way too down on Josh Johnson. We had a semi-productive offense with Byron running the helm the first two weeks, we can only get better with a more accurate, mobile, smarter (well respected for his reads by all on the team), and younger QB. Plus the Skins aren’t even as good as Dallas’ D, and we ran roughshod over them.

I didnt catch those picks before… how embarassing for Florio who must be out of his damn mind.
HOW CAN YOU NOT PICK THE GIANTS for the NFC?!?!
2007 – Superbowl Champions. Beat the 18-0 Patriots, remember everyone?
2008 – NFC Champions. Could have easily gone 13-3 tied for the best record in football… resting starters and playing 4th stringers in the Minnesota game lost a meaningless game.
2009 – 3 wins in a row. Dominated the Skins. Stayed strong to win a brutal game on the road in Dallas with everything going against the Giants and everyone in mainstream sports media picking the Cowboys to win, even former Giants like Strahan and Simms.
THE NY GIANTS ARE THE BEST TEAM IN THE NFL….. practice saying that in front of the mirror until you get it.
You so called professional analysts really leave a lot to be desired.

It’s pretty clear that the only reason Ward was any good with the Giants was because of their great offensive line. LOL, he goes to the Bucs and cashes in and now we all know he really SUX!!! Last week 5 carries for 2 yards???? PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!

How is that any worse than his 0-point effort last week? Thanks Rotoworld for blowing smoke up my ass on that one.

If they lose to Tampa, the fan’s reaction will get Zorn fired, and justifiably so. He has taken the Skins into the toilet in two years. Reminds me of the dark days of the Dave Wannstadt administration in Chicago. I still hate that bastard.

If cadillac comes out with the same ferocity he did when The Yucks played Dallas, RedButts beware ! Otherwise, it’s a non-issue.

I hear you…I’ve got Ward on 2 of my teams and he’s up for the axe to make room for week 4 bye replacements.
Gruden must be shitting his pants he’s laughing so hard.
The Bucs and Browns are nothing short of a joke. They make the Skins look SuperBowl worthy.

an “angry” Redskins team??? Really, do they still have emotion? Based off of everything I’ve read the team is still in shock, and I’m pretty sure Zorn isn’t quite sure what day it is. Seriously, though after picking the skins to win the Super Bowl, the credibility has gone way down, it already went out the door for me for Rosenthal.

Ward is averaging just short of 4 yard per rush & doesn’t have nearly the number of carries he needs to get going. The Bucs D is aweful but I could see them beating Washington if they ACTUALLY stick with the run game. After week 1 they gave up on the run (they were behind but still gave up on it way too early). With an effecient QB that can throw the quick slant or soften up the D the Bucs should do MUCH Better, and if they can control the clock with the run game they will beat this equally horrible team

OMG they got an INT off of an achilles and a WR that ran the wrong route found himself in the right place at the right time when a pass was tipped and fluttered right into his hands and everything went against them? Not even counting the uncharacteristic bad game by Romo.

    ward = cash steala!!

Josh Johnson will be a very pleasant surprise to the Tampa faithful. He’ll also become an embarrassment to the “pundits”. Gruden was right to take a chance on him!

Im a diehard skins fan. but until they start taking shots down the field on offense and scoring TD’s in the redzone we aren’t gonna do anything. Everyone says that we suck but between the 20′s we are pretty decent just when we get to that redzone total meltdowns. Defense can we please top someone on 3rd downs? Laroy is wasting his potential stop tryna be Ronnie Lott and make a damn tackle you’re better than that man.

Let that be a lesson learned for Ward don’t leave a top notch organization for a horrible team just so you can earn a few extra dollars. I bet he gets cut by the end of the season and teams will then be hesitant to sign him because he’s getting old. Who knows maybe the UFL will take him.

  17. brasho says: Oct 2, 2009 6:21 PM

No Rosenthal, Detroit doesn’t have significantly better talent at QB. Josh Johnson has outstanding athletic ability and he is very well-schooled and accurate in the short passing game. Though he doesn’t have Stafford’s rocket arm, he is far more savvy to NFL defenses, has a very quick release and pocket presence, and is infinitely more mobile.
In the WCO, Josh Johnson’s traits are far more desirable than Stafford’s rocket arm. Josh Johnson will have a higher rating at the end of the season than Stafford, this despite NOT having a stud WR to throw to like Calvin Johnson or having the benefit of having a mediocre defense to at least slow opponents down.

Went from earth wind and fire to just plain old dirt
But hey he got his payday so good for him
If the idiots in Tampa did not get the fact that the Giants have a great O line to run behind shame on them
