Edge returns to Indianapolis

Edgerrin James has rushed for nearly 4,000 yards more than anyone in Colts history, and is knocking on the doorstep of the top-ten in NFL history, only 148 yards away from passing Jim Brown at number eight.

His first return to Indianapolis since leaving in 2006 has been overshadowed this week by another player-franchise reunion, partly because the Colts organization has nothing but love for the man who rushed for 1,500 yards four times, one of only four players in NFL history to pull off that feat.

“He follows the beat of his own drum, which is a good beat. He’s done it the right way, on and off the field.” Colts running back coach Gene Huey said.

The Indianapolis Star has a great retrospective on James’ time with the Colts and his life now as a backup running back on the Seahawks.

“Probably one of the finest human beings I’ve ever been around,” Huey said. “One of the most unselfish athletes I’ve ever coached. He helped us win.”

Of course, one of the reasons James’ return isn’t getting much attention is that he is no longer a big factor on Sundays.  James is averaging only 2.5 yards per carry on 17 attempts, and could fall to third on the depth chart behind Justin Forsett.

James seems to understand that he’ll always be associated with the Colts franchise, and even was given a Super Bowl ring by owner Jim Irsay after the Colts won their Super Bowl title the year after Edge left.

“You know me,” James said. “Everybody knows I’m always going to be a Colt.”

Never heard one bad word from any teammates, coaches, or front office people about him. That says a ton.

Edge is an overrated chump, whether he passes Jim Brown or not.

Tough to see Edge doing so poorly as to be banished to the Seahawks, being replaced in Arizona by Tim Hightower… and being a backup to Julius Jones, who is having a good season. I wish he had retired after last seasons falling out. And as for the guys who say they never heard him complain, maybe not as a Colt. He was bitching and moaning constantly as a Cardinal, especially last year when he was benched because, well, he was bad.

Edge is a stand up dude no matter what people think. He is right, he will be forever a Colt. I hope the fans show him some love this weekend.

“The ad people want me to clean up my grammar, my speech, my look, my image. But I’ve got a saying: ‘It’s real easy to be me; it’s too hard to be someone else.’ “

Edgerrin James was given a Super Bowl ring? For what? The party he threw the team in Miami?
I bet that burns Corey Simon’s ass.

Topher : There are a handful of people that were no longer with the Colts that deserved a ring more than Edge….. No problem with him getting one, but what about the other guys. Why does he stand out more than anyone else?
Though, I bet Polian’s ass was burning more than anyones…..
