Moss off injury report, Welker questionable

Randy Moss, who played last week through a painful back injury, was taken off the injury report by New England Friday after completing a full practice.

Still uncertain for Sunday’s game against the Ravens is Wes Welker (knee), Vince Wilfork (ankle), and tackle Nick Kaczur (ankle).  Welker participated in a limited part of practice all week, and took part of Friday’s practice, unlike last week when he wound up missing his second straight game.

Welker has struggled to shake the knee injury and there has been speculation that he could get his knee cleaned out at some point, possibly near the team’s bye week, so he could have a chance to return to full health.

For the Ravens, wide receiver Derrick Mason was added to the injury report as questionable with an illness, but hasn’t missed a game since 2002.

Backup quarterback Troy Smith is also questionable with an illness, so John Beck could be Joe Flacco’s backup against New England.

UPDATE:  Though he returned to practice this week, linebacker Jerod Mayo remains doubtful with a sprained MCL.  He suffered the injury in Week One against the Bills.

Boy, all those people who said Moss was going to start half assing it because the team lost 1 game look like a bunch of hating bitches now. Good call, dummies!

amazing how quickly it went from Moss “dogging” it to “a painful back injury”….what???

  3. WTE says: Oct 2, 2009 5:14 PM

No mention that Jerod Mayo returned to practice today? (Although he’s listed as doubtful)
Still, a good sign that he’ll return sooner rather than later.

Wonder if the Ravens DB’s can keep up with a half-jogging wideout this weekend? Patty’s are going to get smoked – Boston’s going to need to have extra ambulances on standby

  5. DemocratsAreStupid says: Oct 2, 2009 5:21 PM

This game is really going to expose the Patriots. You’ll see how much they’ve fallen off. Only the Colts are better than the Ravens at this point and that may change when they play later this year

  6. KIMWOO says: Oct 2, 2009 5:25 PM

Moss will be back on the injury report after the Ravens kick his skinny butt!

  7. Dick Winniberg says: Oct 2, 2009 5:25 PM

as a Ravens fan, I feel we have a good chance because of our offense against a poor NE defense. I feel they’re just average at best and the Ravens will be able to pick them apart. Plus revenge from 07 which was basically a Raven win. Even if Welker can go, he won’t be at full stride and Brady can’t seem to put it together due to the knee. If Baltimore can get to Brady and only allow 20-30 points, the Ravens will win this game.

Moss needs to start stepping it up and scoring TD’s like mad for me in Fantasy.

  9. DeVoodoo says: Oct 2, 2009 5:30 PM

I think Belichik is slipping a little. His games are becoming too obvious. If Moss could barely walk on Monday, there’s no way his back is 100% on Friday. By leaving him off the injury report altogether, Belichik is admitting he’s really hurt.
Is Bill losing his Midas touch?

While I think the ravens are a overlooked team as of now, would spank the giants, I still don’t think the pats are as bad as people think. The jets caught them at the right time, will b a good game non the less

Moss isn’t hurt – he’s trying to get traded to the Vikings so he can join Favre. Don’t you read PFT.com?

democrat, you are truly an idiot if you think it’s the pats who are going to get exposed. the ravens have three wins and two of them came against creampuff teams with zero defense and zero leadership. as for the guy who thinks our d is average, get a clue. ravens o doesnt even compare to the falcons and they got shut down. sorry buddy. it’s going to be a tougher game than you think.
should be a close one on sunday.

Mike Reiss reported that Jerod Mayo practiced today. Is he listed as out or doubtful?

And the possible return of the DROTY for the AFC doesn’t warrant a mention? Guess offense gets those hits Gregg.

Thanks for adding intelligent discourse to the discussion.
Ravens brought the lumber to the Pats in the 2007 game – Pats O-line were literally bleeding after the game. They almost beat them with Boller at QB, for pete’s sake. I expect a very physical game.

  17. stanjam says: Oct 2, 2009 7:05 PM

Wow, many people here saying that the Ravens will blow the Patriots away. Umm, based on what? They say the Ravens are the best team in football. Again, based on what? They beat the Chargers, barely, and the Chargers are not that good. They never are, despite the talent on that team. The other two teams weren’t much of a test. They should get a REAL test this weekend.
The Pats have been rusty on offense, and their defense has been a lot better than anyone expected for this time of year. Each side of the ball is getting better each week. If Brady is on target and 90-100% back this weekend (which is likely) and the defense continues to improve, the Patriots will win this one, and maybe handily.
Should be a good game. Will probably be a close game, but if you think that the Ravens are going to blow out the Pats, you are deluded.

    @Dick Winniberg
The Ravens aren’t as good as the Jets and the Pats lost a close one on the road. As far as the Pat’s D being “poor” the proof is in the pudding my friend. They’re in the top 10 in team defense, ahead of the Ravens in the most important categories (total yards and total points).
If the Ravens are at home, I say they take this one but since the game is in Foxboro, the Pat’s win this one.

    Dick,
“we have a good chance because of our offense against a poor NE defense”
Pats are 6th overall defense, 6th against passing and 10th against running. How does that make them poor exactly ?

It would be nice if people actually checked out the information they were making comments on.

Everybody brings their “A” game against the Pats.
    Especially in 07.
And, like you, they’re usually using words like ‘maybe’ ‘but if’ ‘almost’ ‘just about’

For me, that’s been the surprise moreso than the offense being rusty.
Even with Mayo, this defense could be a hell of a lot worse.
Having those numbers without Mayo is more than we could have hoped for.
If they can improve, they should have a very good year.

  27. ItalianArmyGuy says: Oct 2, 2009 8:16 PM

I been hearing that the NE defense is garbage – is that right?

Don’t forget the pills that make it all better.

  29. RavenMaven says: Oct 2, 2009 9:12 PM

Wow. so far I have read that everyone is better than the ravens, that the ravens haven’t played anyone good yet, that the New England defense is better than the Ravens, that New England fans they really beat the ravens in 07, that the Jets were more of a challenge than the ravens will be, that having NewEngland’s four best defensive players leave the team, and the next best players injured is not going to affect them against the ravens, blah blah blah.
NE fans: Please note that the New England Patriots are NO LONGER the best team in the NFL. They ARE NOT the best team in the AFC. They are not even the best team in their division apparently. So why on earth do you think you will beat the team that IS the best team in the AFC NORTH, the best team in the AFC overall, and according to most analysts is THE BEST TEAM IN THE NFL. One who’s defense has been the most dominant defense of the past decade and remains dominant today. One who’s offense is shredding opposing defenses easily. If Sean Merriman and Shaun Rogers couldn’t handle us, how is your second string d going to do it?

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^
The D ain’t what it was in 2003-2004, but they are only giving up on average 16 points/game and are 6th best in the league averaging 262 yards per game against.
Wouldn’t call it garbage by any means.

  32. TheWizard says: Oct 3, 2009 12:14 AM

So why on earth do you think you will beat the team that IS the best team in the AFC NORTH,
Because for years, the Steelers and Ravens have gotten fat on going 4-0 every year against pathetic Bengals and Browns teams.
It’s a little bit tougher road when you’re not playing an Ohio team.
    That’s why.
