There are different kind of “questionable” tags on the injury report.
Last week, Redskins running back Clinton Portis was questionable, but everyone knew he was playing. His coach, Jim Zorn, even said so.
This week, Portis missed three straight practices because of bone spurs in his ankles and a sore calf.
“Questionable. That’s all. Fifty-fifty,” Zorn said about Portis’ status Friday. “He’s paid attention, and he’s trying to get it right. I mean, he’s as frustrated as anybody. I’m putting words in
his mouth, but I don’t mean to.”
While there seems to be a real chance Portis is out, the struggling running back seems to assume he’ll play.
“Whatever Jim say,” Portis said. “Game-time decision. Have a nice night, guys. Don’t drink too much. Okay?” (Aw, even with Florio in town?)
Portis will be willing, but Zorn faces a tough decision on whether to play him or not. A week of rest could do Portis well in the long run, but the Redskins can’t afford a home loss to the Bucs.
If Portis is out, Ladell Betts should get the start at running back.
if i was clinton i would be dying for a chance to play this week, hell it might be his only game of the season were hes able to run for a 100 yards.
Its decisions like this that are going to cause Zorn to lose his job. He has coached the Redskins with the “I don’t want to lose my job” mentality since day 1.
A coach who really wanted to shake things up would give someone a chance. I’d like to see what Anthony Alridge has in him. Shake things up, give him the starting knod and let the Redskins players know that nobody’s job is safe when you lose to an 0-19 team.
Ladell Betts shows flashes but hes not a game breaker, you can’t put “game managers” at every position and hope to win. Somebody has to step up and make big plays.
