Browns put James Davis down for year

Browns running back James Davis was one of the best players during the NFL preseason, but his regular season has ended before it could ever get going.

The Browns placed Davis on injured reserve Saturday with a shoulder injury.  The timing is surprising because Davis practiced Wednesday and Thursday before popping up on the injury report as questionable on Friday.

But the Browns needed another active running back for this week with Jamal Lewis also doubtful, and decided they couldn’t wait on Davis.  They activated Chris Jennings off the practiced squad.

Davis rushed nine times for 15 yards in two games, and admitted the speed of the pro game caught him off guard.  Eric Mangini tried to calm down the Davis preseason hype a month ago after Davis averaged 7.8 yards per carry.

“There’s been a lot of backs over time that have had significant averages in preseason and didn’t quite translate [in the regular season].”

Unfortunately for Mangini, he was right.

cue the laughter at all the fantasy geeks who wasted a fifth or sixth rounder on this guy.

For Browns fans sake, I hope Mangini puts himself on IR next.
Anyone who opts for a field goal down 27 points with 10 minutes left to play must be suffering from a traumatic brain injury.
