Titans release Patrick Ramsey

It wasn’t so long ago we were talking about Patrick Ramsey and Vince Young’s battle for the backup job in Tennessee.

Now he’s not even on the team -- at least for this weekend.

The Nashville Tennessean reports that the Titans released Ramsey Saturday to make room for cornerback Cary Williams, who was promoted from the practice squad.

Tennessee needed an extra cornerback this week with Cortland Finnegan doubtful to play the Jaguars. They are also carrying Vincent Fuller, who is out with a broken forearm.

It would be surprising at this stage if Ramsey didn’t land back on the Titans roster at some point, but the team risks losing him in the meantime.

Ramsey does not have to pass through waivers and is free to sign with any team. We could irresponsibly speculate about a few organizations (Oakland and St. Louis for starters) that could use depth at the position.
