Big Show wants to raise the curtain again

It’s becoming more and more clear that Mike Holmgren’s absence from the NFL will last only one year.

Holmgren consistently has been spreading the word that he plans to return in 2010, and Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Holmgren is taking “baby steps” toward positioning himself for a job in the league next year, and that Holmgren “badly misses” the game.

The man known loosely in league circles as the “Big Show” previously has indicated that he’s open to serving in a front-office-only capacity, but he widely is regarded as being in play for a job back on the sidelines.

Holmgren coached the Packers from 1992 through 1998, and the Seahawks from 1999 through 2008.  The most obvious candidates for his next stint are the Redskins and Cowboys.  Holmgren recently told Peter King that Holmgren would like to coach on the East Coast.

Schefter also reports that Holmgren will serve as an analyst for the Patriots-Bucs game in London, which will be handled by Jim Nantz and Phil Simms.

Though Jon Gruden widely is regarded as the king of the four-letter word, CBS would be wise to have a finger on the dump button when Holmgren is talking live, too.

He’ll have a heart attack on the sidelines. He needs a little time on the treadmill. Wouldn’t mind him back in Green Bay myself but I agree–that won’t happen. Hey maybe he could get Favre to come back too!

How many times has Gruden slipped up on MNF? What a stupid stupid thing to say. Very mature, Mike.
