Shane Andrus is the next man up as the kicker in Tampa.
It was initially reported that a Tuesday kicking contest for the position between Andrus and Brandon Coutu was in the offing but it apparently was held Monday (or pay per view sales for the event were down so the Bucs just scrapped it).
Andrus has been in camp with the Indianapolis Colts the past three seasons. He had a good preseason in 2009, going 5-of-6 on field goals and hitting all four PATs he attempted.
Between cutting injured veteran Matt Bryant at the end of training camp and releasing veteran Mike Nugent — an offseason free agent acquisition — today, the Bucs have made their kicking job quite an adventure. Be warned, young Mr. Andrus.
Really now, does it MATTER who’s kicking the ball for Tampa Bay?
On second thought…considering they aren’t going to score many TD’s with that offense that draws plays on the chalkboard (think: The Waterboy) you probably should have a guy who can make FG’s.
(what an adventure trying to post on this site!)
At league minimum, the kid will stick.
Hmm.. Lets pay 2 kicker’s for this season.. and hold on i’m not finished lets pay two coaches cause we didnt like the first one we had,as well. then we’ll start our fourth string QB over our 1st round pick that we messed up on.. we’ll we cant tell them we screwed up can we..30 million under the cap…. not if we pay the first kicker 2 million, make our TE the highest paid one in the league. and franchise Antonio Bryant.. we can lie and say were dumping out cash here. its gonna be fine Raheem. relax.. no one will blame you.
Besides you just got the job to take the fall anyways.
This will change the way the Buc’s play, you watch! Moves like this and the Bucs got themselves a winner.
But the local media all say Morris and Dominik will get at least two years.
How’d you like to be the person in charge of selling season tickets for 2010? What’s the motto going to be? “There’s Nowhere to Go But Up!” or maybe “Yes, But the Players Really Like Him!” Maybe they will bring back the frisbee dogs. Heck, the Mons Venus is only a half-mile away. Maybe they can run some cross-promotions: “The Bucs May Not Win, But Buy Season Tickets, and the Mons Girls Will Guarantee You Score!”
Joe Redner should have bought the Bucs way back when instead of the Glazers.
Can you imagine the show the Mons Venus cheerleaders would be putting on in Jesse James Stadium each week? They’d sell out every game and no one would care what the team was doing.
There are a lot bigger problems on the Bucs than the field goal kicker. How much dead money are they paying out now to players and coaches no longer with the team? Paying Byron Leftwich more than a plugged nickle was their biggest waste of the off season.
Why not bring in one of the soccer prima donna’s from ManU and give them a shot? Aren’t those guys professional kickers?
Long time Buc fan.
And this is a complete/utter mess.
We actually have talented players right now, but their misuse by the current “coaching staff” just sets them up to look like clowns.
Had high hopes coming into the season and still think that RM can still be an excellent delegator but…it’s not gonna happen without coordinators that can’t put their current roster to efficient use.
Tampa Two…maybe boring but we have the knowledge to run it, and it’s sound.
Offense…hell, I don’t know…either just a little more Unpredictable/aggressive maybe. Or…stupid simple, and focus on execution, yea.
>End of vent.
