Braylon Edwards faces assault accusation

The man who has shown that he can’t catch a pass has proven that he can throw a punch.

Allegedly.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Browns wideout Braylon Edwards is accused of assaulting Edward Givens at the View Night Club at 2:30 a.m. ET Monday.

A Cleveland-area event promoter, Givens explained the situation to the Plain Dealer:  “After the club closed, I was outside greeting and saying goodbye to
people.  Braylon comes up and started saying things, degrading me.  He
said if it wasn’t for LeBron [James] or the Four Horsemen, I wouldn’t have what
I have, nor would I be able to get girls.  Everyone knows Braylon has a
problem with LeBron.  So I had to speak up for myself.  The conversation
started to escalate.  As some of his teammates started to pull him back,
he punched me.  I have a black eye and a cut.  I’m not a violent guy.

“As long as I’ve known Braylon, I’ve allowed him and his friends to
come into our events free of charge.  Whatever jealousy he has with
LeBron, he felt he needed to take it out on me.”

So, basically, Cleveland apparently isn’t big enough for Braylon and LeBron.  It shouldn’t be a problem for long.  At the rate he’s currently playing, Braylon will only have about 12 more games there.

Per the Plain Dealer, simple assault cases are not investigated by police.  Instead, the victim must file a complaint directly with the prosecutor.

what is braylon’s problem with lebron? and what does this givens guy have to do with either braylon or lebron?

  2. Rickah99 says: Oct 5, 2009 1:03 PM

Maybe Braylon was made because the guy told him: “To just move on”!

  3. BrownsTown says: Oct 5, 2009 1:08 PM

After having just seen the Bengals work the Browns, maybe Braylon is trying to sell himself to the Bengals for a trade.

  5. scrapdawg12 says: Oct 5, 2009 1:10 PM

Its a fight, fight back unless your a wimp or something. Since Braylon has 12 games remaining in Cleveland, he’ll look real good in Silver and Black next year.

  6. K-RoQ Smash says: Oct 5, 2009 1:10 PM

Since Edwards’ has bricks for hands, does that mean he could get charged with assault with a deadly weapon?

Is it common that simple assault isn’t investigated by police? That sounds odd to me. I could go punch my next door neighbor, the police could ignore it, and by the time the case falls into the prosecutor’s lap, there’ll be no witnesses and all evidence–if there were any–will be gone.
Cleveland must be some place. No wonder they throw beer bottles when the Browns lose.
P.S. FLORIO FIX THIS LOGIN PROBLEM!

It’s hard to believe an NFL player would get into trouble at 2:30 A.M., outside of a nightclub.

  10. Scott P says: Oct 5, 2009 1:14 PM

Awesome story. Just where you expect Braylon to be, and exactly how you expect him to act. Overpaid, overhyped, and soon to be former Brown. Its great when a story actually backs up your initial visual impression of a guy. Braylon and LeBron should never be mentioned in the same paragraph unless its a story like this.
Also, another example of the influence Mangini is NOT having on his players.

so he wants to be traded and he figgers fist fights at night away from the field will get him noticed by other teams
he should go hang out with crabtree

  12. Kidekk says: Oct 5, 2009 1:15 PM

That or LeBron might leave the Cavs before NFL training camps start.

    Wow!
I wonder which side the people of Cleveland will choose?

  15. Colinito says: Oct 5, 2009 1:23 PM

If he even considers himself in the same f-in ball park as LeBron he’s as delusional as Crabtree

  18. twinkletoes says: Oct 5, 2009 1:27 PM

12 more games as a Brown? Edwards is gonna get traded, and for cheap! He did nothing yesterday. I even wondered if he played at all until I saw the final box score, where he was targeted five times, with no catches.
Since James Davis is on IR and Jamal Lewis is winding down, I still believe that a trade for Edwards is on the horizon. They’re not gonna re-sign him, they’re not gonna franchise him. 10 catches through four games? His stock is pretty low; this doesn’t help. LeBron James? Who knew?
Justin Fargas for Edwards, one-for-one. I thought the Raiders would have to throw in a draft pick as well, but now it’s not looking that way. I’ve heard Brownies asking for Michael Bush; maybe, can’t put anything past Al Davis. Bush could be a workhorse, but unless Mcfadden is hurt, it ain’t gonna happen.
So basically this would be a trade of two players going from one crap team to another.

  19. Dewey ActSwooned says: Oct 5, 2009 1:30 PM

Maybe Braylon’s lawyer could pass these charges to him, that way they’ll be sure to be dropped…

He is pissed that Momass is the browns new no 1, and he is loosing$ each game he plays in when he goes into free agency because momass will be getting the catches

  21. dlmcc0909 says: Oct 5, 2009 1:36 PM

Braylon Edwards is one of the biggest morons in sports. How could you be jealous of LeBron James? I dont see him and his friends out causing trouble at a nightclub. You want to earn LeBron James money? Go out and earn it. Put in the time and show the desire to be the best at what you do. A guy like Braylon has no heart, thats why he will wind up on a lousy team next year for a reduced slary

Hey “scrapdawg12″- When ignorant people say ignorant thing things, somebody needs to call them out. How about just reading carefully. It says “his teammates” pulled him back. Could you imagine if he used your graceful negotiation skills? Real men don’t fight a millionare pro football player. They litigate the hell of them. And you wonder why your landlord keeps raising the rent on your doublewide! Moron!

  24. Patsfan1776 says: Oct 5, 2009 1:38 PM

I think the Cleveland Browns players would be more welcome in a Cincy or Pittsburgh night club than in a Cleveland one.
Scrapdawg12 must have ate too much lead paint as a kid. Are you really going to punch a football player that is with his teammates? I think you just take the punch and sue his ass off.

I’m just curious where all the Browns fans are that claimed the Giants were “fools” for not giving up a one and three and Steve Smith or Kiwankua for Edwards, how he was going to have a “huge” year, and how NY would “deeply regret” not trading for him. Where did all those guys go?

  29. Borg30 says: Oct 5, 2009 2:09 PM

I am so glad the giants never made trade for Braylon Edwards.

    - You just lost a game that you should have won.
    - It looks like you need to get a phone number for Lester Hayes.
    - You care less about football and more about an “acting career” when you’re done playing.
… and you “celebrate” this by going out to the clubs on a Sunday night. Plan on paying a game check to the Mangini fund for this one.
“Nothing ever good happens after 2:00 a.m….”

Braylon should be ashamed of himself beating up a 130 lb guy.
Damn what a tough guy. Show that fire on the football field.
