Cowboys get mixed news on injuries

Talking about the hit that knocked him out of the end of Sunday’s game, Cowboys receiver Roy Williams said, “Never in my life have I been hit like
that, from Pop Warner through my six years in the league,” Roy Williams
said. “I’m 5,280 feet above sea level with asthma, so I was obviously
hurting.”

A day later, he was still hurting.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said Monday that Williams’ status for this week is uncertain because he damaged cartilage in three of his ribs on the play.

Dallas faces Kansas City this week, and then has a bye, so the team could play it safe and hold Williams out to let him recuperate.

The team had better news on Marion Barber.  Many wondered why he saw only seven snaps in the second half of the game, but Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said Barber’s quadriceps simply got “tight.”

Barber did take a few snaps during the final few possessions, so it appears Barber didn’t seriously aggravate his previous injury.

The Cowboys may be more concerned about their quarterback and his bruised confidence than his teammates.  Romo is coming off the first two-game stretch of his career as a starter without a touchdown pass.

As a giants fan, I almost pity KC. I am sure Dallas will stomp them too. The NFCEast has has a ton of injuries this year, its crazy…. Here is to hoping the 12/6 rematch of Cowboys – NYG sees both teams fully healthy. Injuries suck.

But the 44-6 whipping in Philly felt like about 5 games worth.

The way Dallas is playing KC might just get their first win.

  4. Derrick says: Oct 5, 2009 4:05 PM

I’m concerned with their QB also, as well as the O.C. and the Left offensive tackle. In order for this team to even come close to acheiving any of it’s goals then those three men need to pick it up and start performing their jobs at a higher/better level. Until those three start men start doing what they are paid to do the Cowboys are wihout a doubt one of the worst teams in the league.

Ha, what a crybaby bitch. Don’t you Cowgirls fans wish he wasn’t such a bitch and was out there?
Perhaps it’s karma for all the shit talking that went on after Slowzell adams tripped Tuck.
    Enjoy your 8-8 season.

Anybody else see when the camera cut to Romo’s face on the sideline right after that B.M. score?
I could see it immediately, it was written all over his face and in his body language:
    We’ve lost. A concession. Defeat.
Sure, he did some obligatory pep-talk on the way to the huddle, but in reality, in his head, he had already rolled over and given up before he even took the field.
In that final drive, he was really just going through the motions.
I’ve got nothing against the ‘Boys, just callin’ it like I sees it.
In fact, this week in FF–w/ the Bears on bye–I’m relying on their defense to come up big against KC.
    Which reminds me:
why was it, in the do-or-die moments of the game, were they going to Hurd (?!?!?!) instead of Witten?!?!?

  7. meezle says: Oct 5, 2009 4:15 PM

That’s was a tough hit, he was completely exposed and couldn’t defend himself. There was a flag in the giants game when a giants wide receiver was hit and dropped the ball, but this hit went unpenalized. I think they got the penalties backwards
I hate the giants and cowboys equally but the hit on roy williams deserved a penalty more than the other, even tho neither should b

  8. Dewey ActSwooned says: Oct 5, 2009 4:15 PM

Roy Williams might not be able to take big hits like that, but you know who CAN?
    Percy Harvin.
Percy Harvin is great at taking big hits.
    (From the bong I mean).

Again with that game? Are you serious? Truly weak my friend. Maybe I can throw out how McNabb got too tired to finish a damn Superbowl while his WR rushed back from a broken damn leg and had the damn near greatest game for a single player in a Superbowl and then your greedy, self centered POS McNabb got envious and threw his ass under the bus and out of town. Or maybe I could say that your 6’2” 240lb QB is larger than many RB’s yet shatters like frickin glass every season when he is touched by DB’s. The list goes on and on about all the crap that I could pull out on McNabb but its all been said before and would show a complete lack of ability on my part to form some sort of relevant argument on my own. Oh wait that’s what you did. get a life.

Great and classy post resloution. I was at the first game at the new stadium and I live in Cincinnati! Even though the Cowboys lost, it was still one heck of a game. I want to see the NFC east teams at their best when we clash. Hopefully soon we’ll get over all these injuries and be back to our normal offensive form.

  11. FelixTheCat28 says: Oct 5, 2009 4:45 PM

    @ DEWEY
I wish I could give you an answer on why our best player wasn’t running a route the last 2 plays of the game…but I can’t.
Thats all on the coaching staff.

  12. Ocelot138 says: Oct 5, 2009 4:49 PM

Again with that game? Are you serious?
It was a total dismantling of your vaunted “Superbowl or Bust” team by one of your hated rivals.
Would you rather we brought up the buttwhooping the Giants laid on you in the playoffs the year before?
Or how about the fact that Romo fumbled the snap against the Seahawks?
Because all three are embarassing – but 44-6, that score, that blowout! It’s the perfect metaphor for the entire Dallas Cowboys.
As hyped as they were, in a game that was essentially a playoff game… they didn’t just lose, but rolled over so spectacularly that they couldn’t score ONE touchdown.
So, yes. 44-6. It’s not just a game, it’s a summation of the Cowboys for the past 10+ years.

  13. kravon says: Oct 5, 2009 4:49 PM

Cowboys are 2-2. Both wins against teams still looking for their first win of the year.

Cowboy fans can just relax, next Monday everybody will be talking about how great Romo is…just wait

My friend I could sum up the entire Eagles history by counting the number of Superbowl rings you have, oh wait. None. I could also sum up the past few years of McNabbs career: A whole lot of time spent on the injured list and a whole lot of crying and moaning. I’ll wait your excuse for your bum of a QB.
    @ Levito

Just a question brother….Since we’ve had a really really really terrible 10 plus years…what have the Eagles done to take advantage of it??
How many rings do they have???
    Oh….Thats right….. : (

  19. dr.g says: Oct 5, 2009 5:15 PM

@ocelot138…you are correct, the game last year in Philly is a metaphor for the pst 10 years or so for the Pokes…but the wheezin and puking in the 4th qtr of the SB is an apt metaphor for the Iggles for the past….FIFTY YEARS. Get to the big game and lose your lunch. I’ll admit that it has been a tough decade + being a Cowboys fan, but at least I can die with some pleasant memories. I’m sure Philly fans can also, as long as they can conjur up the ghost of Franklin Field. Go discuss the good old days with Van Brocklin. Better bring a shovel.

Again, you ignored the most important part of my message to you, the terrible, injury prone, let down after let down career of McNabb. We’ve had to live of 3 years of let downs (with expectations of course) you’ve had 11 with McNabb. And like felixthecat pointed out, what the hell have the Eagles done to take advantage of Cowboys letdowns. Again, you are owned sir.

  25. Grulks says: Oct 5, 2009 5:50 PM

Things I’ve noticed during these few weeks, from a diehard Dallas fan:
    1) A lot of players look winded late in the 2nd half.
    2) No discipline in tackling. players are getting to the secondary because of mistakles and whiffs at or behind the line of scrimmage.
    3) Dallas is missing the pressure that Greg Ellis and Chris Canty helped with last year. Losing one of those might not have been a big deal, losing both has made a tremendous impact.
    4) Newman either looks not fully healthy, or he has lost a step, I’m not sure which.
    5) Romo is saying the rights things off the field , but he doesn’t appear to be doing the right things off the field.
    6) the team looks undisciplined as a whole. Everything from poor tackling, missed cover assignments, to too many players talking about too many things that make it sound like they aren’t focusing on football (exhibits: golf, rap videos, bands, etc)
    7) Dallas is playing like they expect to win, or at least expect to get breaks in the game. The two opponents that have beat them have actually -created- the breaks, instead of waiting for them to happen. 8) Dallas is lacking leadership. They are in desperate need of someone with attitude and focus, along the likes of Brian Dawkins, Ray Lewis, Bart Scott, etc. Somebody needs to get mad, get pissed off, and whip this team into a clear frame of mind, they is solely focused on playing football. And by this I mean 60 minutes of gametime football. Not the 45 minutes they played on Sunday.
The few brights spots I’ve seen are:
    1) the running game, when healthy, is ridiculous. Even partially healthy, they can run over people
    2) Witten. Unfortunately, his performance is tied directly to Romo’s. But even when Romo play’s bad, Witten seems to never miss a beat. It’s too bad the rest of the team doesn’t have his work ethic and steadyness.
    3) Victor Butler. Rookie DE appears to have some wheels on him. I didnt get to see how much time he played this weekend, but he looked very very good against Carolina.
    4) Folk. How sad is it that I’ve have to put the team kicker here. Even then, he’s missed on an exaggerated chip shot. Yet somehow, he still manages to crank the 45+ yarders out.
I’m not sure what I expected for the season, but this was definitely not it. Normally I’d say that I’m glad they’re getting these mistakes out of the way early, but with Romo’s (and Dallas in general) penchant for not showing up in December, it’s hard to imagine that they will bounce back and get hot in November/December.

@chapnasty – don’t try to stick me with McChoke – I’ve got enough problems as a Roethlisberger fan, wondering when all his court appearances are going to be, LOL
I’m just teasing you – don’t take it too bad. I picked you for the Super Bowl this year, and I think the CowGirls will learn from these early bumps in the road. Should have won that game yesterday, just the last couple of passes went to the wrong receivers – you’ll get that kind of stuff worked out. Also, tackling guys who are running free through the secondary at the end of the game would be a good idea.

  28. chapnasty says: Oct 5, 2009 6:11 PM

    @ Grulks
Well played sir. Couldnt agree more. One thing I would say is that Marc Columbo isnt playing with the passion that he usually plays with. His attitude I think is something that the guys on the field can rally around where it might be something that the average fan doesnt notice. Also the best WR on the team isnt even playing. Ogletree should be the #2 at the worst.
Also Romo played great under parcells and had he not bobbled that snap they may have been in that superbowl. He needs a coach who can keep his head on straight and keep him focused. Wade and Garrret need to go.

Look, I’m as serious a Cowboys fan as they come, but “Romo With Game on Line”?? Really?? When the game is on the line is exactly when I do *not* want the ball in Romo’s hands. He gets anxious or excited and the ball consistently sails on him. That’s why defenses are playing cover two on the ‘Boys a lot … they know Romo gets a little punch drunk and overthrows his receivers, and with two-deep safeties, the defense always has someone there to catch those errant passes.
Of course, I also don’t want the defense to have to step up with the game on the line, because that’s exactly when they fail.
And I don’t want Jason Garrett calling plays with the game on the line, because he absolutely loves to move away from what’s been working all day and try to force magic out of crap.
So, to sum up: I don’t ever want the game on the line, because if it is, the ‘Boys will find a way to lose.

At least McNabb has been to a Superbowl and several playoff games! The same can not be said about Rom-O-Choke…yes I said it…Why? Because it’s true. (fyi 1200 sat, 138 iq)
Stop drinking the Kool-Aid tough guy, and start getting used to the fact that Dallas is not that good. Rom-O-choke is not that good! Why do you think he was passed up by all the “big boy” programs(aka Division 1)?? Why do you think he went undrafted? Parcells took a flyer on him and was in the process of building a team around him that could mask his weaknesses(strong RB’s, Good D, etc.) when Facelift Jones couldn’t keep his ego in check and pretty much ran him off like Jimmy Johnson.
It’s been a loooooooong time for Small D, and if Jones doesn’t get a good staff in place, THEN back off…you’ll be looking just like Washington!
I love it, the 2 rivals will be fighting it out in the basement.
At least Washington Redskin fan can say: “A win is a win”….wheras Dallas Cowboy fan will bring up excuse after excuse.
You guys owned the early 90′s…that was a long time ago. Your OWNER is too involved!!
Understand, to win games it takes:
    Good ownership
    A smart GM
    Adaptable Head Coach
Dallas has none of the above!
It will be fun teasing Dallas Cowboy fan each week! Best of luck kids! yuk yuk yuk!

Since it is obvious you dont follow my comments on here, which is ok there are so many comments on here, you are ignorant to my opinions on the Cowboys and Romo. I think Romo has had his chances and barring a major turn around he should be let go. Or they should at least try drafting someone or someone they can turn into a franchise QB.
As far as McNabb getting to the Superbow, he has had 11 seasons to get to 1, Romo has had 3. Not a good comparison from your point. Still a point, but the fact that McNabb wasnt even conditioned enough to finish a superbowl, the fact that he made it, doesnt matter much.

  36. IWanttoPunchFloriointheFace says: Oct 5, 2009 7:32 PM

That was an illegal hit on a defenseless player according to the rules, just another example of bullshit officiating week in and week out…the Donkeys always get calls their way at home, just like the BS roughing the pussy hit on Orton.

chapnasty, you sure love to dig out the old photo album & reminisce (over a few cups of Jonestown Kool-Aid) about the old days.
It’s time to lose the big hair; roll your sleeves back down, trade in the Parachute pants and wake up to the real world.
You’ve got a horrible coach, a QB, who usually swoons in December, although this year it looks a few months early, a defense that can’t tackle, a really good running back (who, unfortunately seems to be made of light bulbs).
And my favorite team is whoever plays Dallas, this week was the Bronco’s…next week it will be the Chiefs

  38. Ocelot138 says: Oct 5, 2009 8:20 PM

    Well, well, well.
Lots of butthurt Cowboys fans going back to the old well of “how many rings do you have”
Uh-huh. I’m sure those rings keep you warm when Tony Romo is losing to the Broncos because he can’t remember what down it is. This is 2009, not the mid-90′s. You’ve got RBs made of glass, no defense and an overrated QB.
McNabb’s gotten to 5 NFC Championship games. He fizzles in the clutch, sure, but with him the Birds are always a contender.
Romo is THE. MOST. ANTI-CLUTCH QB. EVER. See: Seahawks fumble, Giants playoff game, 44-6, Sunday at Denver.

  39. FelixTheCat28 says: Oct 5, 2009 11:40 PM

Another sad pathetic argument by Ocelot.
When have the Cowboys NOT BEEN IN CONTENTION with Romo? The season he took over half way through when bledsoe was the QB they made it to the playoffs…
His Next year they lost in the divisional round against the Giants…
and the last year they were in it till the final game against the eagles??
Dude if your going to open up your trap at least make sense.

  40. Rickah99 says: Oct 6, 2009 11:45 AM

    @ Chapnasty
You’ve had 3 years of let downs WITH Rom-O-Choke…there were about 9 or 10 let down years BEFORE that(we refer to them as “years without a playoff win”).
I never directly compared McNabb to Romo…it would be totally unfair, as McNabb has had a much better career. I’ve just been saying that Romo: has not, is not, and never will be an elite QB(at least in the NFL).
The other point that I make is that Philly, despite not having won a title since 1960, have been one of the most well run franchises in the league over the last decade. Wheras I would very much like a Championship title, I also don’t mind being in the mix year in-year out.
    It’s basically a matter of being R-E-L-A-V-A-N-T!

  41. shazard01 says: Oct 6, 2009 1:38 PM

As Romo goes the Cowboys go. Even if he just plays average with NO picks they win 8 out 10 games. Cowboys…. I hope will get their crap together the rest of the year. You can compare QB’s all you want in the NFC east…I would take Romo over the rest. And whou have the Giants beat this year? KC, Tampa, Washington and Dallas. Two winless teams and one that should be and it took 4 turnovers to beat Dallas. Can’t wait for the rematch.

  42. Ocelot138 says: Oct 6, 2009 3:45 PM
