Eli’s heel has “some swelling and soreness”

The precise condition of the heel of Giants quarterback Eli Manning won’t be known until he has an MRI later today, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.

The official word remains that Eli has a bruised heel. Some observers are skeptical, primarily because the incident resulting in the “bruise” conjured memories of the non-contact ruptured Achilles’ tendon injuries suffered by the likes of Dan Marino in 1993 and Vinny Testaverde in 1999.

Per Vacchiano, Eli’s heel has “some swelling and soreness.”

Manning had treatment on the injury on Monday, and he attended meetings.

So stay tuned. One way or the other, and answer is coming soon.

That said, a fully popped Achilles’ tendon wouldn’t require an MRI. When it goes, it goes -- and even the most basic, Nick Riviera-quality exam reveals it.
