Early Tuesday morning, PFT reported that the 49ers would be meeting with Michael Crabtree.
According to Fox’s Jay Glazer, that meeting is currently underway.
“As I Tweet this,” Glazer writes. “49ers VP of Football Operations Paraag Marathe is meeting with the agent for Michael Crabtree. . . . More to come, but this represents the first talks between the two sides in weeks.”
Unlike previous meetings, there is a great deal of optimism this time around that a deal will be reached.
Even if no one is exactly sure where the meeting is taking place.
Writes Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat: “Kudos to 49ers
prez Jed York for running nice misdirection at hotel where the meeting
is taking place. Thought I had him, but he escaped.”
The only question left is whether Crabtree will escape San Francisco again without signing a deal.

I bet he signs and I bet he has an impact on a few games for the 49ers. Their receiving corp is still trash and it won’t take him that long to get on the field. Even Singletary had to bite his tongue to keep from admitting that Crabtree is the 49ers best receiver the second he signs a contract. He missed the first 4 games and he’s still going to be rookie receiver of the year.

I really dont believe anything is lost. He will provide some sort of impact regardless if he makes plays. The defense will have to account for him just on reputation alone. That means VDavis wont be doubled. Gore will see less defenders in the box.
If he signs this this week, I’m sure the coaching staff is capable of teaching Crabtree a package of 10-15 plays or more and have him suit up against the Texans (home state debut) after the bye week.
They should offer him a five year deal, worth less than they offered him before the season.
And it shouldn’t start until next season, and he has to spend the rest of this season on the practice squad.
