The Vikings have announced that quarterback Brett Favre has been named the NFC offensive player of the week for his performance in Monday night’s win over the Packers.
It was (if you’ve been living in a cave) Favre’s first game against the Packers, and the win made him the first player in league history to have defeated all of the 32 franchises currently in the NFL.
It’s the 14th time Favre has secured conference player of the week honors -- he did it 11 times in 16 seasons with the Packers and twice last year with the Jets.
The release from the Vikings is silent on whether Vikings defensive end Jared Allen has won the NFC defensive player of the week honors. Frankly, we can’t think of anyone more deserving than Allen who had 4.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a safety.
Bucs cornerback Aqib Talib had three interceptions against the Redskins, but Tampa lost the game.
So maybe the award will go to Saints safety Darren Sharper, who had two interceptions against the Jets -- including one that he returned 99 yards for a touchdown.
Sharper, by the way, spent eight years with the Packers and then four with the Vikings before signing with the Saints in the 2009 offseason.
