To put it in perspective, my 7-year-old daughter – who just started playing backyard football this year – makes better reads, has better timing, and throws a more accurate ball than Russell.
When the receiver comes out of his cut, she’s got the ball there for him, every time.

The selection of Heyward-Bey was bad because the boy can’t catch. A receiver without good hands is like a QB without an accurate arm.
Regarding Russell, even if he had a decent arm, his football instincts are just terrible and he’s not even a good athlete. Having a low football IQ at the QB position is a recipe for disaster and the fact that he can’t hit an open receiver 7 yards downfield is a HUGE problem, my friend.

I would think that JaMarcus Russell would be afraid for his life, since he shares the same lockerroom with Greg Ellis & Richard Seymour. Maybe the vets should kick his spoiled, oversized ass.
Charles Haley was a ferocious M.F. It was often said that his own teammates were in fear for their safety when the team was playing poorly. Charles would put the fear of GAWD into them if they “pussy-footed” like Tinkerbell Russell. The vets have to step up & treat this pimp like the true 25 yr old that he is. Maybe Osi will put the fear of GAWD into Tinkerbell this weekend. He needs to get stomped.
I would like to point out to Tinkerbell that his film is going to be around longer than he is. WAYYY longer. When he is in his 60′s, he’ll still get to see & hear the NFL Network countdown “The top 10 BUSTS of all time. At #1, JAMARCUS RUSSELL…”

Could be someone with an ax to grind with the Raiders. Could be someone with something to gain by making JaMarcus look bad.
I know this is more of a gossip and rumors site, but pretending that the report of some anonymous character should be taken as gospel truth as you do when you say “Clearly, Russell hasn’t embraced the realities of his job,” is shabby journalism, even by your dreadfully low standards.
This just in: a blogosphere source tells me that Florio’s sources are non-existant and he’s just making crap up. Clearly, Florio hasn’t embraced the realities of his job.

he had severe deficiencies coming out of lsu that the raiders overlooked to take him #1.
at lsu, he locked into wrs. took too long to make decisions. lacked touch on shorter routes, instead choosing to rocket the ball.
there is a reason why lsu won the bcs when he left and matt flynn commandeered basically the same team.
his IQ based on his command of the english language in interviews doesn’t bode well in a league where the qb should be the smartest/sharpest guy in the room….

On the Steelers, Rahard Mendenhall was lazy and he got benched. On the Raiders, you get named starting quarterback–and get to keep your job after 4 weeks of sub 40% completion.
Not to mention they gave $60 million to a guy that throws with the accuracy of a sawed off shotgun.

I dont know why I feel this way but Russel stikes me as a guy who is totally delusional about his status as an NFL QB. It just feels to me like he thinks hes one of best QB’s in the league and hes going to be a starter for years and years to come. I think he believes he’s been playing good and that he doesnt understand what all the fuss is about. I feel like that’s why he doesnt go to meetings, stay thin, or put in the time he feels like he doesnt need it. That he is great just the way he is.
I mean he either has to be totally oblivous to how he’s playing or he just doesnt care. Hopefully he just doesnt get it b/c that can be fixed. Not caring if you win or not or if your one of the best at what you do is a personality trait and I dont think you can change that.

Well, when you only name black QBs that aren’t doing too well (how could you leave out Cade McNown?), then only name white QBs who are doing well (and your argument still carries no water because it is all a numbers game), I think it’s obvious what you’re doing. So you are in fact making it a black/white thing. It would be better if you just came out and said it.
And Flacco, and Ryan have had one good season. You know who else had good seasons as QBs in the league? Aaron Brooks, Derek Anderson, and a whole bunch of other has beens that have come and gone in the NFL. Let them establish a career before you go annointing them. That being said, I think that Flacco is and will be a great QB. I’m not that high on Ryan though.

“a QB that’s started 19NFL games” … actually it’s 20 games, and he’s amassed a regular season record of 6-14 over those 3 seasons (no playoff games … obviously). That should be plenty of experience to begin to emerge as either a playmaker or a bust.
Conversely, in Roethlisberger’s first 20 regular season starts, he went 19-1 (18-2 if including playoffs).
uhm … enough said. Russell is an unequivocal bust.

I love how a bunch of you idiots call Russell a horrible draft pick. Of course you can, hind-sight is 20/20. There weren’t too many people saying that Russell was a bad pick back in 2007. Everyone knew the Raiders needed a QB and it was between Russell and Quinn. Most “experts” had Russell leap-frogging Quinn as the draft approached. It’s easy to say now that he was a bad pick. Oh yeah, I know, not you, you have been saying all along that he was a bad pick. Sure you have. Get over yourself.
It’s easy to say now that they should have drafted Calvin Johnson then picked Trent Edwards later. Not so easy when you haven’t seen them play in the NFL.
Perfect reason for a rookie wage scale.
