When the Dolphins and the Jets line up on Monday night, the game will feature one receiver who never played considerably well in Ohio and another one who hasn't played all that well since leaving Ohio after college.
Jets G.M. Mike Tannenbaum said Wednesday that Braylon Edwards will start when they face Ted Ginn and the Dolphins in Miami in five days. [Editor's note: Sorry for the prior mistake regarding the location of the game. And thanks to all of you who pointed it out. All 134 of you.]
"If everything goes as expected with physicals and paperwork and all that, how much he plays will be up to [offensive coordinator Brian] Schottenheimer and [head coach Rex] Ryan," Tannenbaum said. "Our expectations are that he is going to come in and start. It's a little bit like Ty Law last year, who came in late and played against the Patriots on Thursday night."
Tannenbaum said that the trade had been in the works for a while, and he denied that it had any connection to the signing of receiver Michael Crabtree with the 49ers.
"There is a league rule that after August 14 no unsigned player in the draft can be traded," Tannenbaum said. In other words, the Jets couldn't have traded for Crabtree at this point, even if the Niners wanted to trade him.
Tannenbaum also expressed no concern regarding Edwards' off-field reputation.
"We went through a thorough researching [of Edwards]," Tannenbaum said. "[Vice President of Security] Steve Yarnell does a great job and we are comfortable where we are in adding Braylon to the team. . . . We reached out to the league. Steve Yarnell reached out to law enforcement. We are comfortable adding Braylon. We will cooperate with the authorities. We are glad he is here. We did all of our due diligence and we are comfortable adding him to the team."
But the Jets are not yet comfortable extending Edwards' stay beyond 2009.
"We acquired Braylon and his contract," Tannenbaum said. "We're going to honor his contract. Right now, our intentions are that he is going to be here with the contract that we acquired in the trade. That is our plan."
Absent a new labor deal by March, Edwards will be eligible for restricted free agency only. If a new CBA is reached, Edwards would be eligible for unrestricted free agency, but he would still be subject to the franchise tag.

Can somebody say "Roy E Williams in Dallas scenario"?
umm, "when Tedd Ginn and the Miami Dolphins come to town..."
The game is in Miami.
And after the game Antonio Pierce is going to show him around town.
Can't wait to see him screw up on the BIG STAGE in New York. The media won't give him a pass like they did in Cleveland.
He is a a good player with a bad attitude, when he starts dropping passes it will be someone elses fault.
Good move by Cleveland to dump him and his dropped passes.
Hope all you NY fans enjoy the constant drops and constant bitching. You deserve it!!
"Jets G.M. Mike Tannenbaum said Wednesday that Braylon Edwards will start when Tedd Ginn and the Miami Dolphins come to town in five days."
Wonder if Mikey realizes the game is in MIA monday night?? Moron....or the proofreader was asleep hahaha!!!
this will work perfect with braylon edwards in New York, until I join the Knicks in 9 months!!!

The Monday night game is Jets-Dolphins? Yuck. At least I'll be well rested Tuesday morning.
Wow. Does anything show how far the Dolphins have fallen in the past few years than "Tedd Ginn and the Miami Dolphins come to town"?
Why would any team trade two players and two draft picks and not sign a new contract?
Oh wait, it's the jestys. Never mind.
Ladies, close your legs, the fish smell is killin me.
This guys a turd. He's a turd bag! Another T.O
Well it looks like BradyGazelle is incapable of reading between the lines as the phrase "Ted Ginn and the Miami Dolphins come to town" was obviously used to fit in with the story of a WR face-off.
I suppose the phrase "defending AFC East champions and #1 rushing team in the NFL behind the #3 rushing leader Ronnie Brown comes to town" could have been used, but may have been a bit too long.
Oh woe is Miami who has "fallen" so far from that 1-15 season two years ago. Those were the days.

Can somebody say "Roy E Williams in Dallas scenario"?
I doubt it asshat. Roy Williams can at least catch a ball....
tThe headline for this article should read:
"Braylon Edwards will start dropping balls for the Jets Monday night."
B,
Enjoy NYC. The big apple finally gets a superstar. The media and fans there will be so chill when passes brick of your hands of stone. If you're lucky, maybe you'll get to punch Bron Bron's boy in the face again when he's a Knick in 2010, assuming you and your hands like a clock are still welcomed there.
Sincerely,
C'Town
You are totally right Keith. Tannenbaum is the master at the salary cap and not signing him now is pure genius. Wait until March when there is no cap and he won't lose anything now. Only the Jets play the cap this smart, I love it.
The drops are coachable.
Who led the NFL in fumbles from 2000-2003 with 35?
Tiki Barber.
Then Tom Coughlin came in, showed him how to hold the ball vertically instead of horizontally (something past coaches did not pick up on), and he fumbled only nine times in the next three years combined.
Henry Ellard is known in inner circles as a very good young coach, and Wes Chandler, the Browns WR coach from 07-08, is out of the NFL.
Dropping the ball isnt even close to fumbling. Catching is a talent. You can only improve hand eye coordination so much later in life. It is something you are both born with and develop at a young age. The way you put it everyone could be larry fitzgerald with the right coaching.
1 Reception. 7 yards. Write it down.
Would love to see that huddle.
Sanchez sticks his finger in the sand and says "Braylon, see that guy. He's the tight end. You line up next to him. When I snap the ball, you run to that little bare patch and then stop, like this, and then run right that way, and then just, you know, try to get open. Got it? Okay. Break!"
The drops are coachable??? It has not worked for Ginn yet!!! might be a good game if the Miami D rushes sanchez & the secondary tackles!!! Division game Miami, STEP IT UP!!! GO FINS!!!
Yes, Dan -- talent cannot be coached. And you are right, if everyone had the talent that Edwards has, then the right coaching is all it would take. Unfortunately, only a handful of people (Fitzgerald being one of them, Edwards being another) have the hand-eye talent to be a top WR.
So, drops in this case are not hand-eye coordination when the same player makes acrobatic one handed grabs like he has in the past. No, his drops are mechanical and/or mental. That is 100% coachable.
This was an upgrade for the Jets... Stuckey has a higher drop rate than Edwards and Edwards will spread the field. Sorry haters.
If Braylon is getting a "do over", who knows, maybe Freddie "God Blessed These Hands" Mitchell has a shot.

Why would you want a dead President on the Knicks? I'll admit he'd fit in perfect with the rest of the stiffs on that team!
Bet Edwards drops at least one big pass Monday night and maybe two. Good deal for the Browns, bad for the Jets. Thanks again.
Eric M.
Can't wait to see Braylon out there and I love seeing this move by the Jets. High risk, high rewards. Mark Sanchez and the offense arent going to reach the next level until they have a true downfield threat, and thats exactly what braylon is. I just hope the change of scenary does him some good.
Ted Ginn and the Dolphins are coming to town.. because Dolphin Stadium or whatever it is called now.. it's the Jets second home because of all the Jets fan that fill it up!!!! typical dolphin fan, he probably has never been to a game.. we run that city!!!!
Does anyone find it interesting that once the trade between the Jets and Browns for Braylon Edwards is completed, Michael Crabtree signs with the 49ers shortly thereafter?
That tampering charge the 49ers filed against the Jets may have some substance to it after all...
i doubt edwards will learn the playbook & develop a chemistry with sanchez by monday night.
i'd expect some timing to be off, maybe making it ripe for the dolphins secondary to get some picks. i predict more INTs for sanchez than TDs, especially if he 'forces' the ball to braylon
