We’ve adjusted the taping schedule for our weekly PFTV segments in order to provide you with more opportunities to watch the two-minutes-and-change videos while the boss is getting a porcelain massage.
The first topic for the week looks at whether the 3-1 Bengals are for real.
So click play once the boss picks up the USA Today (newspapers are still good for something) and makes “the walk.”
Realest 3-1 team EVER.
Child please.
Are those CRT TV’s in the back? What is that? Did you guys set up shop at the broadcasting hall of fame’s 1997 exhibit?
The Ravens will thump the Bengals this week.
The Bengals looked very focused in the preseason game against the Patriots, especially on defense. Hard to believe but they are a tough team.
Child please is right. The Bungals needed a raft of flukes to beat the Steelers, who bitched-slapped them around the field all day. Especially their defense, which looked like Swiss Cheese that day. They got taken to OT by a Cleveland team that’s as pathetic as it gets right now. By December when they’re back in third place we’ll have forgotten them as usual.
They have been playing good Defense since the endo of last season.. Benson is actually running well.. Carson looks to be back.. if not for real.. at least really better than last year..
When it’s down to the wire the Bengals are very much for real… as for the first three quarters and twelve minutes well…not so much; also, the Brad St. Louis is clearly being paid by the people at Whodey Revolution or something to sabotage the entire season. We’ll see how “for real” they are this weekend after Ray Lewis disembowels (seriously) Carson Palmer (yikes!).
Porcelain massage??
Is that what it is called after you pray to the porcelain God, then rub your head along the side of the toilet cause it feels cool?

I expect the Bengals to lose against the Ravens as well, but if they win, then there is really something to the character of this team that is different this year.
The Steelers game was great. I was totally disgused the 1st half, they owned us. The great part was the last drive of the game. The cameras on TV kept showing the looks on the faces of the Pittsburgh offensive players, they looked completely helpless and lost, absolutely priceless. Converting on 4th and 10, scoring touchdown next play on pass, then converting a 2 point conversion against Steelers defense. Solid.
The Bengals are probably better than most expected but they are far from being a threat to win it all.

That’s because the Steelers’ offense was helpless, not being able to do a damn thing as the Bungals ran out the clock before scoring. If BenRoeth gets back on the field with a couple minutes, there’s a good chance the Steelers win.
Solid? Go back and look at the 4th and 10, ask yourself how Farrior whiffed on an easy tackle five yards out. Like I said, a raft of flukes — cheesy 7 for the Bengals because Holmes ran the wrong route, and Sweed dropping the TD pass.
If your guys do beat Baltimore Sunday, yeah, maybe there’s something different about the Bungals this year. But I doubt they will.
The Bengals do not have to beat the Ravens to be considered for real. They are a fluke tipped ball away from being 4-0. Any NFL fan knows that sometimes games are close that shouldn’t be. This is the NFL. All that matters is that you play defense, get the late stops, and have that clutch winning drive.
The Bengals have done that all year. Even against Denver. One bad tipped fluke.. but a L is a L.
Bottom line: The Bengals are for real. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either a Steeler fan, or someone who just refuses to accept a perennial doormat can turn it around. It’s fun to rag on the Bengals, and they just desperately want to rag them again.
Browns game was a trap game. In state rivalry. Records get thrown out the window. Road game. Bengals won.
Nuff said. Bring it on if you feel otherwise, but hey…. you are wrong. The Bengals are good. And extremely well coached, I might add.
I get sick of “oh the Steelers played like crap”. Face it… the better team that day won. That is life in the NFL.
As a Ravens fan I’m not taking the Bengals for granted. The Ravens D will stop the run, but they can’t afford to give up the big pass plays b/c I think Carson and his WR core look pretty good in the red zone. Hopefully Cam gives the running game more touches this week to keep Palmer off the field.
One things for sure, it’s not a sure win circled on the Ravens schedule like it was 4 weeks ago. It’ll be a good game. The Ravens schedule keeps looking tougher by the week…now the Broncos aren’t doormats either all the sudden.
Frank Burns:
Sour grapes from a classless Stoolers fan. Always quick to run their mouths when they win, cannot lose with class and dignity. Typical. Frank, let me ask you something……what does WHO DEY taste like?
@hitdogo42 I get sick of “oh the Steelers played like crap”. Face it… the better team that day won. That is life in the NFL.
I object, The Bengals were far from being the better team, they got lucky, The Defense did play like crap , But yes in the end we did lose, But I have seen this team start out hot , and then drop off , the man love between Carson and Chad is not gonna last I would say after this week when you guys get your butts handed to you by the Ravens and Stinco dont get into the end-zone romance over,,,You have a lot of tough games ahead , I predict 0-4 these next 4 and then you play the Black and Gold on the Nov 11, I think we will see then who the better team is and always was.
I think it’s funny all the Squeeler lovers getting pissy over the Bengals beating them. “The Bengals got lucky b/c the offense was helpless. Let BigBen get on the field with 2 minutes and they win.” Well that’s the sign of a good team. The Bengals were able to keep Ben off the field and win the game. Ever think of that? No one is discounting the Steeler’s ability to win. Everyone knows they can. But when another team is able to keep your offense off the field, that other team is PLAYING BETTER FOOTBALL. That’s the name of the game. Oh and your defense shouldn’t be reliant on one player. I hear excuses from Squeeler fans saying “Well if Troy was playing it would have been a different story”. That shows a team that’s reliant on one player to be successful and that’s NOT A GOOD SITUATION. If the Steelers have to rely on Troy to play good defense, then that means their defense is questionable. Come on now guys. Realize what you’re saying here. THE BENGALS PLAYED BETTER FOOTBALL THAT DAY. AND WE STILL HAD A QUESTIONABLE DAY WHICH MAKES THE WIN EVEN BETTER. WE BEAT YOU GUYS ON A DAY WE PLAYED KINDA BAD!!!!!!!!!! How does it feel? How bad would we have won if our offense was up to par where it could be? The win could have been pretty ugly then.
Bengals fans. As classy as Pats fans.
So gracious.
You think the Bengals are going 0-4 the next 4 games? Care to trade paypal accts and place a wager on that one?
You outplayed the Bengals for 2 quarters. Whoo hoo. Go cry somewhere else.
And, I don’t expect you to take that bet. You are all bark. Heck, you wouldn’t pay me anyway.
We actually are pretty gracious. But when these Squeeler fans get on here with their D&*% suckers running about the only reason we won is b/c we got lucky. Carson and Co. flat out outplayed the Steelers in the final minutes of the game. Yeah the Steelers controlled the ball most of the game. But we came back from a big deficit (yeah that deficit is pretty large in our minds) to win the game in the final minutes, that means we outplayed them. Yeah they had a couple huge dropped passes. But that’s football. They were dropped. That happens in every game. So therefore everyone wins by luck b/c the other team dropped key passes? Come on now. Get real here. We outplayed you guys and won. It’s that easy. No it wasn’t a pretty win, but a W is a W. Give credit where credit is due girls.
The shear strength that the Bengals have shown after trailing in each game to come back and win shows they’re a completely different team from years past. Last year if we were trailing, the game was over. They’d give up. This year they’re fighting tooth and nail to come back. That’s unheard of with the Bengals. That shows they work their a$$es off and have the heart to win games no matter who they play. I don’t expect them to beat the Ravens simply b/c the Ravens are that good this year. But I do believe we’ll put up a fight and not let them make us look like they did the Browns. But then there’s Chicago and Houston? Those are two VERY winnable games. Then we have a Bye week and we play Baltimore at home. So we’ll have a week off before we play Baltimore again. That’ll be huge.
Frank: Holmes ran the wrong route? Sweed dropped a pass? Those are flukes? First wrong route and dropped pass for those guys? Here’s a clue…if you run wrong routes and drop passes then maybe you aren’t as good as you thought. Is every missed tackle a fluke?
And then you whine that the Bengals ran out the clock and Ben didn’t get a chance. The Steelers have made a living running out the clock on teams.
Oh and the Steelers were taken to OT by the 0-4 Titans.
As a Ravens fan, I don’t take the Bengals lightly at all. However, the Ravens are tough to beat at home. The weakness of the Bengals is the OL. Benson is not at all the type of RB that has success against the Ravens so it will be all on Palmer to beat the Ravens. He has done it before, but the difference is that now, we have the ability to win a shoot out with Flacco as our QB. I expect a thumper of a game, but by games end I expect the Ravens to win 27 -17 or thereabouts. Overall, I think our D is better than theirs, our running game is way better than theirs and our passing game while not as polished has made up ground from years past.
@Frank Burns
The game is 4 quarters long not three, it wasn’t flukes it was called dominating you guys in the 4th because steelers quit or just tired from their cupcake offseason.
wow…both teams fans (Steeles and Bengals) are acting like idiots in this thread.
Fellow Steeler fans…it doesn’t matter what happened in the first 3 quarters b/c they were able to keep it close enough and our offense couldn’t finish. Receivers miss routes and dropped balls happen from time to time. When the 4th Qtr came around our D couldn’t get off the field b/c we went into a lame ass prevent. It’s that simple.
We stopped heavy blitzing, sat back and let them dink and dunk their way to the endzone the entire 4th qtr. No pressure on Carson = long, tedious drives. It’s quite simple. It DOES have something to do with Troy being gone, but not as big a deal as you make it out to be.
We got outplayed in the 4th, simple as that. Stop bitching and making excuses. It’s embarrasing to be honest.
And Bengals fans….congratulations….but it’s only 1/4 way through the season. You are a tipped pass away from being 4-0…but you’re also a Limas Sweed drop away from being 2-2. Sh*t happens and you move on. You do look 10x better than last season, but I wouldn’t go talking as much trash yet as you are. If you beat us at Heinz Field than have at it. But I have a feeling by that time the Steelers will have their tiny problems worked out, and a possible @ss-whooping could be in store. But who knows…..
BTW…I absolutely loathe the fact that you drafted both Keith Rivers and Big Rey. As a USC fan as well as a Steeler fan that really sux.
Vox’s Mommy,
Thanks for stepping this up a level. As a Bengals fan, I am pretty embarrassed by this exchange as well. The Steelers/ Bengals game was a fun game to watch it had all the ingredients to be a blowout for the Steelers, but the fact is the Bengals stepped up when they needed to by holding them to two field goals after they had first and goal inside the 10. Years past, that is almost an automatic TD for Pittsburgh. People must be forgetting, football is a game of flukes as much as it is a game of strategy, i.e. Immaculate Reception. The team that gets the most flukes or big plays going for it typically wins.
I don’t think the Bengals are for real yet, and I am betting that the Ravens take it to them this weekend. The personnel question marks still linger and it shows when they play: our O-coord is incompetent; inconsistent OL play since they are still gelling with a new C, LT, LG & RT (as the season goes on they should get better); no depth at CB (Crocker is our nickel); and face it Palmer is just not the same QB before the knee injury in 2005. I think the Steelers may win the division (Ravens D will have injuries to deal with later this season since they still have an age issue), but the Bengals may give them a good fight. If the Bengals have another great offseason, they can be serious contenders next season now that finally have a strong foundation in place (good O & D lines)- something we have lacked since 1981.
Blester, great post. And thanks for providing something of use to the discussion. It’s refreshing. I agree with you about the Bengals needing another year, maybe two, to become a legit contender. I think they finally realize to compete in the North you need a defense, it’s been that way for years now. Rey and Rivers were great picks, as I said, I’m jealous. I can definetely see you going after a CB in the draft next year, and keep in mind that Benson is no spring chicken. He’s a big guy who initiates contact, these days guys like that don’t last as long as they’d like. Palmer is not the same QB, but if you give him time like the Steelers did in the 4th Qtr, as we all saw he will still pick you apart.
Damn…it’s so much better to talk to a fan of someone elses team about football issues instead of the usual “Squeelers/Bungles/Ratbirds/Cowgirls/Eagirls etc…suck”. I do have to admit, that sometimes people do say things that are just so stupid/insulting/useless that they almost have to illicit a response, but 99% of it is useless dribble.
