Patriots running back Fred Taylor, who over the years acquired an arguably unfair reputation for being injury prone, is injured.
According to Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com, Taylor needs surgery to fix an ankle injury suffered during his final carry of the team’s 27-21 victory over the Ravens.
Taylor, currently 15th on the all-time rushing list, did not practice on Wednesday because of the injury.
During Taylor’s absence, the other options at tailback are Laurence Maroney, Kevin Faulk, Sammy Morris, and BenJarvus Green-Ellis.
Taylor currently leads the team in rushing with 201 yards.
The Patriots travel to Denver this weekend for a showdown with the Broncos, who are coached by former Pats offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
I hope Benjarvis Green-Ellis gets some reps, all he does is produce!
I suppose Maroney will get most carries. Once he gets stuffed for tap dancing during a running play, maybe BB will say enough and let Benjarvis get his shot.
Good luck to Freddy T ! We loved him here in Jax. I hope he is able to resume his career because he still has many records to break.
Looks like the Law Firm will be getting some play now…
Wonder if he’ll be on the injury report!!!!!!!!
Broncos will win. McDaniels wants to beat the old man. Losing Fred Taylor for a time will hurt the Past.
Pats beginning to look like their Superbowl years of RB by commitee
NOOOOOOOOOOO…… – OK – Relax. We still got Laurence dancing with the stars Maroney
Where is Corry Dillon?
Laurence Maroney should get a shot.
Wait, did I say “a”. That was a typo.

Antowain Smith carried the ball 287 times in 2001. The next highest was 51 by Marc Edwards.
In 2004, Corey Dillon 345 times, well ahead of Kevin Faulk’s 54 (also Dillon set a franchise record for yards).
The only year they had a “by committee” was in 2003, when Antowain Smith’s career was officially gassed, and the carries between him and Faulk were 182-178 in Smith’s favor.
This could be a blessing in discise….Taylor should be back around week 9-10& well rest for the push at seasons end & the playoffs….I’m ok with that & Morris/Maroney & BJGE should get plenty of reps with Faulk doing his thing on 3rd down……no worries here!!!!
We all know Bellichek is going to Denver to spank McDaniels. His #1 minion, Tom Brady, will engineer this disciplining of McDAniels.
