Classy. The apple obviously does not fall far from the tree I see. The good news is people like you usually wind up getting exactly what they deserve sooner or later.
As for that Brady guy being a pussy:
In the [2004 Season] AFC playoffs, Brady led the Patriots to victories over the Indianapolis Colts and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Brady played his best game of the year in Pittsburgh despite requiring intravenous treatment the previous night when he ran a temperature of 103 degrees. Against the NFL's best defensive team, Brady recorded a quarterback passer rating of 130.5, his highest of the season.[11] On February 6, 2005, the Brady-led Patriots defeated the Philadelphia Eagles to win Super Bowl XXXIX. mattitude,
So what, Brady was supposed to stay there and let Suggs destroy both his knees just so you can feel like it was a good flag ? It was an intentional low hit that clearly deserved the flag.
leatherneck,
Totally agree with you, great post. mattitude is a fine example of what you were talking about.
----------------------------------------------
Don't get me wrong. I don't want to see anyone get hurt, but I also don't want to see certain quarterbacks get preferential treatment. You think the flag was justified because your mind reading powers allowed you to interpret Suggs' falling down motion as intentional and ill-willed. At least you QB wasn't injured. Apparently it's ok for a defensive tackle to perform a running frog splash on McNabb without generating a flag. That's fine, though. Some QB's are tough and don't complain about non-calls, while others need to beg for every flag they can get.

I dont care whose the QB for the raiders, but Russell should have gotten the same call that Brady got. It doesnt matter about officiating crews or who is the better QB, it should be about calling it down the middle and trying to make the right calls.

leatherneck:
What rule should we put in place so Jared Gaither wouldn't get carted off the field? Football is a violent game and everyone who plays it knows it. There are hands to the face that happen and people falling to the ground akwardly on every play yet when it happens around a quarterback a 15 yard penalty and automatic first down is called. That's what people are complaining about especially when those penalties consisently seem to go against the most physical defense in the past decade. See last year's titan's game when suggs hit collins on the SHOULDER PAD and was called for penalty on 4th down play that should have ended game.
Do I think there's a bias there for some marquee players YES, does it seem to be a bias against physical players and teams YES! Does that affect the integrity of the game YES. If you dont' like the fact that it appears to be the Ravens whining about it, why don't you ask Rodney Harrison about it. He's a big hitter who repeatedly drew penalties and fines that others would not.
I do not want to see Mr Bunchen or any other player hurt, we all want to see the best players but the hitting out of bounds and qb protection rules impact too many games and are VERY subjective calls.

Just fine players for "illegal contact" with the QB and do not affect the down and distance, as the tap to the helmet or thigh, not below the knee non contact area, does not impact the game in any way shape or form other than the free 15 yards and 1st down.
It is not like pass interference or even a late hit personal foul. It is a legal hit on the QB, but maybe in an illegal part of his body. It is convoluted and inconsistant at best.
Just review the tape and pass out the fines. Stop affecting the outcome of games with ticky tack bullshit calls.

A well-played football game is not one where the referee isn't making a motion to throw the flag UNTIL Tom Brady turns to him and makes the flag throwing motion.
A well-played football game does NOT rely on two ticky-tack calls to keep one team in the game, no matter how many SuperBowls they won or how recognizable the QB is.
A well-played football SEASON doesn't give an advantage to one team over another.
But this is now the NewEngland Football League, so I guess we've gotta get used to it.

To the people calling this the Brady rule, try calling it the Carson Palmer rule because it was after Palmer was knocked out they really started emphasizing low tackles against QBs."
Maybe so, it may have started with Palmer, but it was Brady that perfected the "please, PLEEZE don't hit me" wimp routine. The name stays. ;)

How about the fact that they had not aloud a rushing td in there 1st 3 games and the Pats had 2 or they had scored 30 or more points in there 1st 3 games but were held to 14 on offense
If you know for a fact they would have won your in the wrong line of work.
Get over it stop crying, save the crying for when Pittsburgh beats you AGAIN!!!

I will agree that there needs to be more consistency. I agree that mobile QBs don't get nearly as many calls that pocket passers get. Having to watch Donovan McNabb week in and week out for the past 10 years is a very good example. I can't tell you how many times I see the Eagles defense get flagged for ticky tack fouls on QBs, yet McNabb never gets those calls. I'd love to see a statistic that shows how many roughing the passer flags have been thrown over the course of a QBs career. McNabb NEVER gets those calls. And I am in no way a fan of McNabb either. I'm ready to pack his bags and crown King Kolb.

The refs in the NFL need to be consistent. That is the biggest problem here. This includes fines etc.
Great post by leatherneck. No one should be cheering on injuries. As much as I despise the Jets I don't want to see Sanchez or anyone else get hurt. What is wrong with people?
Quit bitching Ravens!!! Every team has been on the receiving end of a bad call and vice versa.

To the people calling this the Brady rule, try calling it the Carson Palmer rule because it was after Palmer was knocked out they really started emphasizing low tackles against QBs.
-----------------------------------------------
Ha. You wish. Palmer was alone in that playoff game, with only Von Oelhoffen near him as he threw the pass. Von Oelhoffen grabbed Palmer's ankle and pressed his shoulder into the side of his knee. No flag was thrown and Palmer was done for the postseason. This is a Tom Brady rule, as Brady pandered to the ref immediately after he had to move slightly to the left in order to avoid Suggs. Gee, Tom, we're all sorry you were inconvenienced by having to move one step laterally, so you wouldn't get brushed by a linebacker during a football game.

I remember last year after a couple of the Raven's losses to the Steelers (3 losses to the Steelers last year, correct?) the Ravens fans whining was off the charts on this site, but not as bad as this week. After the Pats beat the Ravens in 2007 the Ravens whining was off the charts. WTF is the whining and excuse affliction that you and this team carry?
First, whoever said, Suggs was pushed into Brady needs to step away from the pipe!
He's standing there, Neal has his back turned to Suggs. The next thing you know Suggs is taking the dive at Brady's knees. He wasn't pushed and it was pretty clear what he was doing!
While Mike Wright got tagged 5K for a small tap to the head, Suggs didn't get fined? I would think at least 5K is appropriate, considering what was in his mind! Had he run at Brady he would've been legal! He didn't, he lunged from the ground! A place he got to on his own.(point of emphasis this year!)
Fist pump! Rey Lewis calling someone out for a fist pump has got to be the most laughable thing I've ever heard! Mr. Dancing Man Rey, Rey...doing his look at me I'm cool dance! Shaking his booty for the locals in B-more. All that non-sense is ok, but if a call goes your way whatever you do don't do a little fist pump. Rey, Rey will get mad! Scary...
I wonder what Rey would say if Wright drove Flacco into the ground? Earned that 5K fine..Maybe if the Ravens franchise QB missed a year, he feel a little differently about it!

It is starting to appear to me that there is small, screaming fraction of NFL fans that want to see players knocked out of the game, or even have their careers ruined.
To that kind of fan, I would say this. You are a cancer on football. You are a cancer on sports.
Most football fans want to see a game between two teams that have their best players available and try their hardest within the rules to win. Every NFL team thinks that they currently have the best 53 guys they can get at that moment. There are lots of high-level athletes who would love to play in the NFL if they were given an opportunity.
It is bad whenever a Brian Urlacher or Tom Brady or Donovan McNabb or any other player gets hurt. Sometimes injuries happen, but any avoidable injury should be avoided.
When Lawrence Taylor broke Joe Theismann's leg, guess who was frantically yelling and waving at the Redskins sideline for medical help, before anyone else knew what was going on? That would be Lawrence Taylor. He did not intend to hurt Theismann. It just happened that way.
Football is a sport. It is a dangerous sport, but it is supposed to be a sport first and dangerous second.
I recognize and respect when Ray Lewis says that the rules go too far in protecting quarterbacks. That is his opinion.
It appears that some fans are rallying around that for the wrong reason, however, because they would prefer to see blood in the water than a well-played football game.

Nobody cares about whether Mike Wright hit Flacco or got fined.
You got to credit Belichick for getting his team ready for a refereeing crew that calls a lot of penalties.
Harbaugh got schooled there. Harbaugh even took an unsportmanlike penalty, which cost his team 15 yards.
At the end of the game, Flacco was driving, and his receiver dropped a pass on 4th down.
Ravens should've won this game. They've got to look in the mirror and execute instead of moaning about the refs.
Poor leadership.

NEXT RULE: Tackle a qb from behind and you are suspended plus fined...mark it down! Qbs will have flags on before too long. As I recall it was the Panthers in03 or 04 that dove on McNabb to hurt his back and he was out of that game as well.
harrisonhits:
Brady felt his knee get brushed and whined to the official who immediately made the call. Mr bunchen's getting softer and any body watching knows it. Just wish Ray would have taken him out when he tried to run in the first touchdown before the goal line sneak.
On the Pat's roughing play the first guy hit flacco in the head and then the second guy hit hiim in the head while he was down. should have been two fouls or second guy thrown out of the game. I'm sure if suggs and ngata did the same thing to Mr. Bunchen that's how it would have been called.
Not to mention the pass interfence calls either called called against the ravens or not called on the pats. Specifically the endzone play with clayton's arm being held and he still almost made the catch with one hand. Then you through in a 15 yard penalty on the COACH for I guess cursing at the refs? That's when they know they suck that they can't take coaches yelling at them.
But you're correct on one thing. Even with all the terrible officiating, bad spots and "Mr. Bunchen Rules" the ravens still should have won the game.

First time I'm seeing the Suggs play, and I can't believe people are arguing this one. He clearly dives directly and unnecessarily for the knees. Correct call by the official and I hope a fine on Suggs followed during the week. No excuse for deliberately trying to take a guy out like that, and the fact that he failed because Brady managed to move enough to avoid serious injury shouldn't excuse it.
I agree that the hit on McNabb should have been called, but unfortunately late flopping on players is very, very common and hasn't become a point of emphasis yet. If it does, there will be about 20 flags a game for a while, and people will complain about that then.

I am pretty miffed at the media who keep showing this game, and the Ravens hitting Brady and being called, but the play showing Flacco getting touched in the helmet and getting a flag is NEVER shown. WHY? Because it nullifies their case that Brady is being protected more than other quarterbacks. It shows that THIS officiating crew called it equally on both sides of the field. Yes, it was a bit much, but on BOTH sides. Suggs should have been called, but not the other two. Lewis should have been called when he dove at Brady, who was sliding. He intentionally went low to hit Brady in the back WHILE he was sliding, a blatant penalty. OR, if he indeed started his dive when Brady was running, he was going for the knees.

Brady was lucky that he slid lower than he normally does.

"Florio, PLEASE watch the Texans/Raiders game and comment on the officiating. I'm BEGGING you. It has to be brought to light."
You sound like a guy who got dumped and is pleading for your ex to take your sorry ass back! Lee, get over it! The Raiders STINK! Russell needs to get bashed in the head and knocked outta of the game. He STINKS! All you babies out there complaining about the NFL vs. the Raiders is pathetic.
Yeah, there are bad calls and stuff like that but who cares if the Raiders are putting up points, kickin' butt and winning with those bad calls. But they aren't, so lets blame the officials. Pathetic Raider fan mentality.
When Jerry Rice was with the Raiders, Tim Brown told him he won't get the calls he was used to getting while with the Niners. Rice didn't care, he went out and played harder. They were still winning while getting crappy calls.
I am a Raider fan. But not like the losers who support Davis and Russell and still complaining about the officials. Get over it and admit that Davis id DONE and the team STINKS now. Get on board with that and wait out the Davis era. Life is WAY TOO SHORT to let the Raiders bring you down or piss you off.
