After winning Super Bowl XXXIV nearly a decade ago, the St. Louis Rams traded in their blue and gold-not-really-gold-but-yellow-but-they-call-it-gold-because-yellow-sounds-effeminate-not-that-there’s-anything-wrong-with-that uniforms for blue and gold.
Since then, the Rams have been to another Super Bowl, they lost it, and they have been in steady decline ever since.
Currently, the franchise is riding in the valley of a 14-game losing streak.
So, on Sunday, they’ll try to party like it’s 1999 by breaking out the old blue and gold-not-really-gold uniforms.
It’s fitting that they’ll be wearing the throwbacks against the Vikings, since the Rams quieted critics who believed their 13-3 record had been puffed up with two games each against the 8-8 Panthers, 5-11 Falcons, 4-12 49ers, and 3-13 Saints by beating the Vikings in the divisional round of the playoffs that year, 49-37.
Regardless of the uniforms, the 4-0 Vikings should be leery of the 0-4 Rams, as explained in this week’s PFT 10-pack at SportingNews.com. The Vikes are coming off two straight emotional wins and they’re getting ready for back-to-back games against the Ravens and the Steelers. This trip to St. Louis could be the ultimate trap.
who will get to 0-16 first/next between lambs, bucs, and brownies!?
i’m going in this order:
lambs
bucs
brownies
This is an organization that might be turning to Boss Limbaugh as a savior. What a joke!
And, do you honestly believe the Rams have a chance against the Vikings? Give it up.
I always like the Blue and Yellow more anyway
……this comes from someone that picked the ‘Skins to goto the Super Bowl.
WTG Lord Florio, you put your foot in your mouth again!
The game sunday will be an absolute blowout
Vikings 35
Rams 7 (if that)
“This trip to St. Louis could be the ultimate trap.”
WTF? Are you kiddin’ me?
Brett Lorenzo Favre will dissect that secondary like a world class surgeon. This is just a tune up game before playing back-to-back games against the Ravens and the Steelers.
I totally agree with you about the Rams being a
“trap” game for the Vikings Florio. Everything on paper indicates the Vikings should own the Lambs but this is sports after all and anything can happen ie Buster Douglas. Sure the Lambs want to lure a football giant to sleep in a Dome quieter than an isolation cell on Devils Island after 2 back to back thrillers. Vikings have not won there since 98′ but thats just a trivial fact as far as I’m concerned.
That being said….Favre will be rewarded with a belated b.day present as the Vikes put away the Lambs easily. Too much fire power for a team in transition with mostly unknown players.
@ Roboto
Didn’t we establish that your political ideas on limbaugh have no place here after I put you in your place? come on man.
These throwbacks are much better. Just keep these.
Yeah, you could be right. The initial aches and pains are settling in and the seasoned Viking vets perhaps will be looking past the Rams to the Ravens amd Steelers.
On the other hand, some of those younger, lesser known guys . . . you know, like Peterson and Harvin . . . had a relatively quiet game last Monday. Will that happen 2 weeks in a row?
If I were a betting man, I’d give the points.
Why don’t they throw themselves back to LA? Then there could be another remake of “Heaven Can Wait’ and it would actually be relevent. Other than that, not so much…..
chapnasty, I think you’ve been scarfing down the same pills Limbaugh’s been abusing through the years. Anytime you want to meet and fight me…just let me know. I’d love to kick your @$$….and, I’ll do it too, you mother effer! I love beating people up.
First, this is old old news about the Rams wearing the throwbacks this week. This has been known for some time.
Second, i think the “gold” only came in with the post Superbowl change in the uniform, where colors have to have funky marketable names like these official NFL colors: teal, midnight green, aqua, pewter, coral, gold. Even metallic silver-green (Cowboys). I kid you not. I prefer the simple blue-and-white of the Deacon Jones, Roman Gabriel, Merlin Olsen, Jack Snow era. The Rams went to the white instead of yellow back then because the blue-yellow clash caused problems on primitive TV broadcasts.
Third, the Rams-Vikings game in the ’99 playoffs was not nearly as close as it sounds from the score.
Fourth, the Vikings trouncing of the Rams this coming weekend will not nearly be as close as the score.
Fifth, unfortunately for the Vikings, this is not a playoff game.
Pure comedy. The Vikes will blow a game eventually, but not this one. I don’t care what pills Lushbaugh (or Florio) is popping.
The Browns will probably beat the bills this weekend, and they will both look like schmucks after the game.
Vikings coaches are not so ultra-dumb as to take the Rams lightly. IF they were, they would sit Favre, start Jackson, sit Hutch; etc etc etc. Listen to ANY pregame interviews from anybody on any team playing in any year: NO ONE admits to looking past their upcoming opponent. You all ought to know all the cliches by heart. Florio is just stirring the pot again. Duh.
Vikings win with consistent balance on both sides of the ball. The Rams don’t have much to throw up (other than breakfast) against the Vikes outside of Steven Jackson. Gotta admire that guy. He’s alot like Favre was in GB for many years back when. The only guy on the team that had any real threat and hence had all the self-imposed responsibility to score or generate big plays.
Minny has true balance this year, at least on Offense. D line and backers are awesome, D backs are at least average all around with a few studs.
Look for the Wildcat early, and for AD to knock the snot out of a few Rams en route to the House. Favre will likely be relieved in the fourth quarter if they have the lead they foresee. More sacks (Edwards and Robison) and an interception as well. I’d love Sid Rice to dance into the end zone once more, too.
But I’m getting cocky.
I’m a Vikings fan and they typically blow a game like this every year. It’s too early, though.
Did the Rams switch from yellow-gold to old gold to be more like Mizzou after settling into St Louis?
These old yellow-gold unis looked so LA…
Brett Favre carrera terminará este domingo, cuando Leonard Little va para las rodillas
if I remember correctly, last season 0-4 Rams weren’t supposed to beat the 4-1 Redskins, and then the next week they weren’t supposed to beat the 5-1 Cowboys. I’m just saying.
P.S. yes, I am a Rams fan. not denying that. just saying. it could happen.
Hey, Lightsout,
I like your memory. Classic Trap, eh?
Don’t let anybody get too close to your behind. Remember what the Packers did a couple of weeks ago.
As long as it goes “Baaaaa”, the CheeseHeads call it fair game. Then they have a smoke.
“Brett Lorenzo Favre will dissect that secondary like a world class surgeon. This is just a tune up game before playing back-to-back games against the Ravens and the Steelers.”
Just because the Rams are a bad team doesn’t mean the Vikings automatically win because anything can happen. Every team playing has a chance of winning no matter how bad they are and if they are going up against a much better team. You can’t predict those type of things until after the game is played.
and oh by the way, the Rams do have O.J. Atogwe. He is one hell of a safety.
Florio PLEASE. We all know you thrive on controversy and will go to extreme lengths to get attention (not unlike your idol Favre), but there is no way in hell the Vikings lose to the Rams this year, even if the entire starting defense goes down with injuries.
It’s one thing to make bold and ballsy predictions, it’s quite another to throw out all reason and pick at random.
Incidentally, how is your Redskins pick working out?
@chapnasty
~ I don’t think you need to worry about Roboto’s “threats”… I believe I may have seen him just the other day:
