The 49ers made it to 3-1 this season on the strength of a nasty defense and a persistent running running game.
On Sunday, the Falcons put a hurting on both, scoring 45 points in a blowout win, and sending 49ers running back Glen Coffee out of the game with a lower leg/foot injury.
Coffee racked up 66 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 16 touches Sunday, but left the game early to go for x-rays.
San Fransisco usual starter Frank Gore missed his second straight game because of an ankle injury, which makes San Francisco’s impending bye week well-timed. It’s believed Gore and the 49ers have been targeting the team’s Week Seven game against Houston after the bye for his return.
While the beatdown should be humbling for San Francisco, they are still in solid position in the NFC West, with a 3-0 record in the division.
UPDATE: Nancy Gay of AOL Fanhouse reports that Coffee is “OK.”

If he can’t go next week, look for the NFL emergence of Kory Sheets.
Kory is going to tear it up.
I got hurt too… I hurt my neck doing a double-take watching Dre Bly make a complete ass of himself.
Also, I’m glad to have had to login again for the 805th time.
Dre Bly in SF is one reason the Broncos are much better this year.
Dre Bly 2009- 49ers =’s Deltha O’neal 2008 patriots.. good luck with that
Cut Bly now, 49ers. We don’t need that crap.
Singletary mooned the team last year. What will Singletary do to Dre Bly? Sit on his face?
My God some of you people are tools…….
