Miles Austin delivers for Dallas, not "Dallas"

After the “Dallas Texans” forced overtime late in Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, the effort to push the franchise’s record to 3-27 over the last 30 games failed.

A 60-yard catch-and-run by Cowboys receiver Miles Austin with 8:33 to play in overtime was the difference.

The play capped a 10-catch, 250-yard day from Austin.

And can someone remind me again why quarterback Tony Romo was throwing to Sam Hurd last week with the game on the line — and with Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey on the coverage?

The must-win game for the Cowboys moved their record to 3-2 at the bye.  But it was hardly an easy out.  The “Texans” led twice by ten points, and they knotted the score in regulation with less than 30 seconds to play.

Some (i.e., me) thought that the “Texans” should have gone for the win then and there, ignoring the extra-point try and going for two.

In hindsight, it couldn’t have hurt.

Though the “Texans” have no reason to be ashamed, the end result is another loss.  And that’s 28 in 30 games.

Next up for “Texans”?  They’ll become the Chiefs again, and they’ll head to D.C. for a game against the Redskins.

Thank you Roy Williams for getting hurt and making me pick up Miles Austin for fantasy football!!! Woohoooo

  2. hockref says: Oct 11, 2009 4:57 PM

Did Tony Romo finally develop a clutch?
Or was it a quick short pass where the receiver did all the work?

  3. Kwyn says: Oct 11, 2009 4:57 PM

Dallas is who we thought they were. A good match up for KC. They match up well against the lowly Cheifs. Speaks to the calliber of team that Dallas is.

Bet it takes you a whole roll of Lifesavers to get over this one, Florio.

  5. LiveNBreatheFootball says: Oct 11, 2009 4:59 PM

Why not throw to Miles Austin last week? Did you not see the TWO dropped passes — one in the end zone — in this game that if he had caught we wouldn’t have needed his spectacular run in OT to win the game. Because we would have won in regulation by being up a whole touchdown, at least.

  6. Zaggs says: Oct 11, 2009 4:59 PM

If playing against a winless team becomes a must win, you really suck.
Broadcasters are acting like beating a winless team by the second closest margin of loss for them this season is a cure all for Dallas. Huh?

  7. daffx4 says: Oct 11, 2009 5:00 PM

Stop with the “Dallas” and “Texans” … “Jerk.”

  8. Romo With Game on Line says: Oct 11, 2009 5:26 PM

GO ROMO AND GO BOYS! The Chiefs at home have been good and it was trap game that romo game through in the clutch for. Like I said they played the Giants tough and the Eagles tough.

  9. chapnasty says: Oct 11, 2009 5:26 PM

Miles Austin sucks, he just got in the open field and ran, and he happens to be extremely quick. He dropped two TD’s that would have had the Cowboys up easily and there would not have been an OT needed. Also, I think Patrick Crayton has had his time, move on.

There are no must-win non-conference games in the first half of any season. Way to buy into the hype.

they say you play to the level of your competition but this was a lil to close for comfort
but hey a dubya is a dubya and congrats on the win
i still wouldn’t count romo and his boys out just yet

    congrats on the win

Hey, it looks like Dallas found a foe they match up with perfectly. Maybe Goodell should create a minor league with Dallas, KC, Oakland, Cleveland, Buffalo and Tamp Bay…and leave the real NFL caliber teams in the NFC and AFC.

  14. Kevin from Philly says: Oct 11, 2009 6:11 PM

Buying into the hype? Vox, you root for a team that’s nothing BUT hype.

  15. promin1 says: Oct 11, 2009 6:23 PM

@ romo with the game on the line…They played the Giants and Eagles tough? The Giants were blowing them out 27-3 in the 4th when Manning came out of the game. The Chiefs got garbage time TDs to make the score seem close. There is nothing worse than uninformed Dallas fans. Your an idiot Romo with the game on the line. The Chiefs suck and so do the Cowboys.

  16. Mike Vick, Pet Detective says: Oct 11, 2009 6:34 PM

Philly sucks. They’ve beat nobody. Another year, no championship.

  17. Jim Naizeeum says: Oct 11, 2009 6:38 PM

Cowboys are worse than I thought, I was only joking about the possibility of them losing to KC.
    KC against the NFC east:
Lost to the Eagles by 20.
Lost to the Giants by 11, not as close as it looked, KC scored 13 points in the 4th qtr, when the game was gone.
But, hey Dallas came through in the clutch.
This game struck fear into the rest of their schedule.

  18. east96street says: Oct 11, 2009 6:46 PM

Romo With Game on Line says: “Like I said they played the Giants tough.”
Wow. You are completely delusional. The Giants were up 27-3 into the fourth quarter, Eli got hurt, and the Giants allowed two scores in garbage time. How do you figure that’s playing NY tough? Face it, fanboy, the Dallas D is a joke. When KC can tie up the game with just over two minutes left in the game, your D is an embarrassment. Good thing your head coach is such a defensive wiz. The Dallas D is ranked 26th in overall D and 29th against the pass and Dallas has compiled those gaudy stats while playing TWO winless teams and one team that was winless until today. Sad. Looks like that 14 year playoff win drought is going to last even longer.

  19. NoKoolaidCowboy says: Oct 11, 2009 7:02 PM

Ugly win in OT. This game speaks volumes about the preparedness for going against an 0-4 team.
Giants man-handled the team they were supposed to beat. That’s what I was hoping to see.

“WTF are you talking about? Crossposting or just ignorant?”
i was talking about Vox’s previous post in the other thread where he called me an idiot for “thinking rangers lead the way”… maybe he thought i was rooting for the texas rangers, i dont know..very little of what vox says registers as making sense…crossposting because someone who sees the need to insult me or my “name” ONLINE does not have the intestinel fortitude to even try to make it through what my fellow rangers do on a daily basis..and that goes for people that want to call me “ignorant” too..

  26. rangersleadtheway says: Oct 11, 2009 8:51 PM

careful who you insult. You dont know me like that, and certainly with a name like “romo with the game on the line” you have no clue what youre talking about. You want to be on a level where you can insult me? ok..well, when youre testicles finally drop, say bye to your familly, enlist in the Army, volunteer for the Ranger Indoctrine Program, graduate, head to 6 mos of Ranger Combat leadership school, and then when you start your second tour in afghanistan, then MAYBE you can look me in the eye and call me an idiot.

i think your insulting ignorance more correctly labels you the “cyber” tough guy. You want to minmalize my job with garbage men and bartenders, fine…it was funny. Especailly coming from someone who is probably not even qualified to do either.. its clear that your entire life revolves around defending how awful the cowboys are, talking sh*t when they barely win a game, Sunday ticket on your mothers couch, and pretending there is more value to your life than that… its not suprising that you are obviously the same kid that walks around with his head down, shuffling feet, and wonders if he’ll ever lose his virginity. till then, get online, insult your countrys servicemen and women and split your time with masturbation and playing final fantasy.

Vox is actually posting like he’s the only true American patriot on another thread. Then on this thread he trashes an American hero.
I’m proud to have you here. Try to ignore the cowards who care more about their football than they care about our men and women serving their country overseas.

A win is a win is a win… look you fellas are a little harsh on the whole KC sucks look at there record thing.
Sure the cowboys teams theyve beat are a combined 1-13… but the teams theyve been beaten by are 10-0.
So what does it all mean??
The Cowboys are probably right in the middle of that, average.

“The Chiefs at home have been good and it was trap game that romo game through in the clutch for. Like I said they played the Giants tough and the Eagles tough.”
First of all that is the worst name ever. Why don’t you just call yourself “Choke” or “Average QB who turns ball over when his team has a chance to win?”
Next, do you actually WATCH the games you comment on or just look at the final score? The Giants and the Eagles man-handled the Chiefs like good teams do to bad teams, not like your Friday night lights team. They were lucky to come away with a “W” today.
I can’t wait until November 8th. We are going to expose Dallas for who intelligent football fans already know they are…
    Dallas Sucks!

“10:38pm ET – What head coach do you have the most respect for?
Mike Tomlin. From a talent standpoint, the Steelers aren’t a great team. He makes them play so much better than they are.”
    ————————————————–
On the surface, that statement appears true. Tomlin will probably get Coach of the Year.
Of course, the Squealers insanely simple schedule is the biggest reason of all why Zittsburgh is 3-2 and not either 0-5 or 1-4. Tomlin is getting more of the credit than he probably deserves. Their weak schedule deserves the credit much more than anything else.

  45. VoxVeritas says: Oct 12, 2009 10:57 AM

The guy’s not in the Army and if he is it’s for all the wrong reasons. Some people join because a judge gives them the option as an alternative to jail time. Some join because they’re too stupid to hold a job anywhere else. Some join because they want the benefits, and don’t really want to fight for anything. Then there are those that lie about it because they can’t get any respect any other way. Some join out of a selfless sense of duty. You can tell the ones from the first four categories because they talk loads of shit then hide behind statements like “I’m protecting you!” like it’s supposed to mean something.
I agree with thecree, if what you do makes you ashamed, then stop doing it. But whatever you do, stop crying to me about it because IDGAF.

Google ‘Vox Veritas’. The first hit is a Myspace page. Florio doesn’t let me post the link anymore because the staff at PFT are Vox Veritas enablers (same reason he hasn’t been banned yet, his idiotic antics get responses/hits).
Take a look at his fat, greasy face, mullet and mustache. You probably have a passion, as a Ranger, to defend even the weakest and most wretched in America (and thank you for your service!)
Well, you’ve found the weakest, most wretched scum in America right here, and he’s still desperately trying to defend a bad Dallas team.
