Another season wasted
The worst part about the Redskins loss Sunday wasn’t the blown lead, Chris Samuel's neck injury, or the offenses poor performance. It was DeAngelo Hall’s inability to tackle Jake Delhomme on a third and 10 that would have given the offense one last opportunity to tie/win the game. On third and 10 with 2:00 left in the game, Delhomme faked the handoff to DeAngelo Williams and bootlegged it himself. Hall, who was supposed to have contain on the outside, jogged over to where the fake handoff was, then, once realizing Delhomme had the ball, sprinted to where Delhomme was attempting to run. The two met with about four yards to the first down. Instead of going low and tackling an immobile quarterbacks legs, Hall tried to outmuscle Delhomme. Guess what? That didn’t work either. Delhomme took Hall for a ride. He stiff armed him and kept running, until Rocky McIntosh arrived a second late and Delhomme got the first down. How embarrassing is that? A quarterback broke your tackle to get a first down and win the game. After that particular play have I finally realized why the Redskins have been such a bad team the last decade. Not only is it their inability to make big plays when they are desperately needed, the money wasted on guys like Hall (6 years 54 million) who can’t even tackle one of the league’s worst quarterbacks when its needed most. After this game, I think it’s safe to say the Redskins have settled into their familiar place: doormat in the NFC East. I don’t even know if the Redskins will score more than 20 points against the Kansas City Chiefs this week let alone beat them. How pathetic is that? The Redskins at most will get 6 wins this year, and that may not even get them a top 10 pick this year with all of the other bad teams (see Rams, Buccaneers, Browns). It wouldn’t be surprising to see Zorn gone after the bye week. It’s too bad, though, to already have to write off the Redskins this year, considering the amount of money they paid in the off season, which hasn’t exactly worked out. (Statistically the defense of last year is way ahead of this year’s defense). The best situation for the Redskins is if Zorn is fired, Campbell is benched for Collins/Brennan, they get a top 10 pick, and Cerrato is fired. Oh, and one last thing: You tackle by driving through the other person, not him driving through you.
