Stover getting a workout in Indy

In a move that reflects lingering concern regarding the health of kicker Adam Vinatieri, the Colts will work out veteran kicker Matt Stover on Tuesday, according to a league source.

Per the source, the Colts aren’t likely to sign Stover this week, if at all, since Indy is embarking on its bye week.

Vinatieri had offseason surgery to address discomfort in his hip.

In a pinch, punter Pat McAfee could handle kicking duties. He both punted and kicked at West Virginia, and he’s the author of the only field goal of 50 yards or longer at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field, which opened in 2001.

Stover, 41, joined the Ravens franchise as a Plan B free agent in 1991, and he held the job through the 2008 season.
