T.O. not on the block

With the Bills falling apart and receiver Terrell Owens generating barely 200 total receiving yards in five games, some have suggested that T.O. should be dangled for the benefit of a playoff contender, which could then yield for the Bills a draft pick or two for their trouble.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that it’s not happening.

Still, Schefter believes that the Bills should ponder the possibility.  “[A] team such as Chicago, which could use a
play-making wide receiver to help unseat the first-place Minnesota Vikings,
might find it worthwhile to part with a mid-round pick for an offensive
playmaker that can help make a difference this season,” Schefter writes.

We generally agree, but keep these three realities in mind.

First, when T.O. was available as an unrestricted free agent, only the Bills were willing to pay him at a rate of $382,000 per game.  No one else wanted him at that amount — few if any would have paid him the league minimum.

Second, though Owens was signed by the Bills before the Bears upgraded their quarterback position by trading for Jay Cutler, the Bears have resisted any and all opportunities to acquire other veteran receivers, either by signing them as free agents or trading for them.

Third, with Kraka-T.O. close to erupting at any given moment, the team needs to be sensitive to the perception that they’re trying to dump him — and he might use that whiff of an opening to try to force his way out.

Third, with Kraka-T.O. close to erupting at any given moment …
or doing a T.O.-unguska Event crash and burn.

Good to hear! Bears need a big time WR but that douchebag is not the answer!

Why would any team that is a playoff contender want to bring in this cancer to destroy their locker room? They didn’t want him before the season started, why the hell would they want him now?

  4. FumbleNuts says: Oct 12, 2009 6:32 PM

Believe it or not, this is NOT T.O.’s problem. The Bills are a friggin’ train wreck!
The O-line is pathetic, the coaching is horrendous, the play calling is a joke ect….
This team needs to completely start from scratch.

T.O. stuck in Buffalo…hmmmmmmmmmm. Nice move, Drew. You really did your client right. You’re a horrible, horrible narcissist. Just like your client(s).
Where is Marv Levy on this mess? He’s still with the organization, right? God, what mess. And I want a front-row seat when Terrell DOES meltdown.

Why won’t you leave TO alone? He has been perfectly behaved all season. His press conference after last weeks horrific game was nothing but professional. To keep claiming hes “close to erupting at any given moment” is unfair.

Fourth: T.O. is past it, doesn’t get open, drops 2 out of 3 targets aimed his way, and is/will always be a royal pain that will not help the chemistry of any team he is on.

as a fan of TO, and embarrassingly buffalo, he should be traded for a bag of footballs. the bills should be ashamed

As a Vikings fan I would love to see T.O. rip apart the Bears locker room.

It makes perfect sense, but it’s not going to happen. For whatever reason, the Bills FO aren’t conceeding this season and looking to the future.

    WHO CARES ABOUT TO?!?!?
TO only has individual accomplishments to speak of. When it comes to winning SuperBowls (or playoff games for that matter), the guy is a pathetic joke. Owens is a total non-factor nowadays and I’d even venture to say would be a non-factor had he still been with the Cowboys/Eagles/49ers

The Bears are fine with what they have. If we wanted cancer we would all start smoking instead of inviting it into our locker room. Take this dumb idea and serve it up some place else, dummy.

I was at the “game” on Sunday, and T.O. was WIDE OPEN for most of it. It was crazy. When sitting in the nosebleeds, you have benefit of watching all of the receivers. And I’m really not kidding. T.O. spent most of the afternoon wide open. The Bills need to get rid of Edwards, and get someone who will throw the ball to somebody other than a RB/TE.

Ternell Owings is GARBAGE. Trade him? Who in their right mind would want to be associated with a slime bag ignorant scum foo like this? Send him home.

If they do ship him out – does the city of Buffalo get their key back?
    Or their security-deposit?
    …or their black t-shirt?

    He’d look good in a Ravens uniform…

  18. Iceberg34 says: Oct 12, 2009 10:01 PM

TO looks old and stiff. I do not want him on the Bears.

  19. yeahbut says: Oct 12, 2009 10:12 PM

Baltimore should make a move for TO. With Clayton essentially dropping the game against New England, and the Bengals easily shutting down Derrick Mason, and hence the Ravens passing game this week, that team desperately needs a legit receiver. Ray Lewis would probably keep TO’s butt in line in the locker room pretty easily.

Those who continue to post negative comments about T.O. are clearly stuck in the past, where he may have deserved such comments. This year he has been a model of excellent behavior. He absolutely refuses to say anything bad about anyone else, regardless of how much he is baited by the media. He even tries to be a cheer leader, to lift the spirits of both fans and team mates. Having watched every Bills game, I have seen that he has had about one or two drops per game that are his fault, but the main reason for his statistical drop off is the pathetic Bills O-line and the lack of catchable passes from Captain Checkdown Trent Edwards. T.O. and Lee Evans for that matter, have very few balls thrown to them and at least half of those are five feet over their heads or behind them.

Hey Bob in puerto rico. You spend too much time on the island. T.O is usually in his best behavior when he’s new on the job just like any other employee. T.O. is about him and only him. That’s why it’s interesting to read about him and watch him rant on the sidelines. It makes the NFL more interesting with him just like ‘ocho cinco.’ The eight planets and two minor planets in the solar system including the asteroid belt revolve around him. He controls the ocean water currents and the planetary seasons. Just kidding. T.O. is a major joke and he will never win a superbowl. The only way if signs with a playoff contending team, goes into a volunteered coma for the rest of the NFL season and wins one by virtue of being on the team.

Wow… usually it takes TO a bit more than a season to throw his little infant tantrums and implode the team. He’s doing it in record time. What is more pathetic than TO behavior is the greedy NFL owners who continue to give this jackass yet another chance. Greed + Stupidity + Infantile / Massive Ego = NFL Owner * TO

  23. GiorgioMustica says: Oct 13, 2009 12:56 AM

Have any of you realized that T.O has been a very good teammate thus far? He’s been saying and acting in a positive way throughout the season, even though the Bills are a COMPLETE train wreck….they lost to a QB who had 2 completions, and yet he stayed quiet….If I were the Bills GM, I would trade him for a 2-3rd rd pick….the Bills are NOT going anywhere without a new QB

  24. FavreDollarFootlong says: Oct 13, 2009 6:00 AM

Baltimore? Please. If they wanted a receiver, the time to go get one was in July, when Mason appeared to be retired….not mid-October.
The Ravens knew what they had at WR all off-season, and didn’t do jack because Ozzie Newsome has neglected the position for years. Why would he suddenly change his mind one week before the trade deadline?
And that’s only the Ravens 2nd biggest problem – a horrible pass defense is the biggest. Think it was fun getting shredded by Rivers, Brady, and Palmer? Just look at who’s coming up down the stretch:
Favre, Palmer again, Peyton Manning, Big Ben x2, Rodgers, and Cutler. Hell, even Orton and Marshall could tear that defense up. But hey, at least you’ve still got the Browns, Raiders, and Lions. 6-10 ain’t bad.

Um….T.O. has kept his mouth shut all season, even though his QB is a total pussy. What are you watching?

  26. Arizona Buckeye says: Oct 13, 2009 1:31 PM

Beastie Bills – I know you’re smoking the enternal hope pipe that TO was your savior but sorry to crack your bubble, he is a total plague and it is only a matter of time until it bubbles to the top. So, he is keeping his mouth shut and not associating with the team at this point. All you have to do is look at Barry Bonds and know that being an isolated figure in the locker room and on the team sends just the same message. So he’s graduated from being an infant throwing tantrums to being a teenager and not talking and staying in his room. Either way, he is a total waste of space and I’m glad he’s on your team and not mine
