In perhaps the most clear example of the ’70s style divide emerging between the NFL’s good teams and bad teams, the Giants manhandled on Sunday a Raiders team that, with each passing week, seems to be vastly removed from the club that somehow managed to win a game in Week Two.
Even with Eli Manning (heel) exiting early after notching eight completions in 10 attempts for 173 yards and two scores, the Giants outgained the Raiders by nearly four times: 483 to 124.
So, basically, the Raiders can’t even move the ball in garbage time — despite keeping starting quarterback JaMarcus Russell on the field for the entire game.
Ahmad Bradshaw might leapfrog Brandon Jacobs after gaining 110 yards on eleven carries; Jacobs gained 43 yards less on ten more carries.
But, still, it was largely a tune up for next week’s Bayou showdown between the Giants and the Saints, which surely will feature a Manning family reunion in their hometown of New Orleans, especially since Peyton’s team is off next week.
For the Raiders, things can’t get much worse. Coach Tom Cable’s freedom and livelihood are in jeopardy, thanks to Randy Hanson’s broken jaw. The team reportedly is engaged in a fire sale. Tony Dungy steered Mike Vick away from going there.
And so the Raiders have scored seven points or fewer for three straight games, and despite the presence of some really crappy NFL teams that haven’t won a game, there’s a good chance that, right now, Oakland would lose to any of them.
Well, hopefully the Raiders stay crappy for at least one more week.
Being a Raider fan, I watch that crappy team every week, and yesterday I almost felt bad for Russell. It looked like he was making a sincere effort to complete some passes. His footwork was decent, and as evidenced by the three fumbles, he kept his eyes downfield. He almost looked over-coached, like he was afraid to think for himself. Yeah, I know, a guy that sucks that bad can’t be over-coached, but it’s either that or he’s an incredible moron, because he just looks lost out there. Late last season it looked like he was starting to come around, but him and that lazy-assed Dick Seymour have both been getting worse every week since the San Diego game.
Kevin from Philly says: “Well, hopefully the Raiders stay crappy for at least one more week.”
Obviously, as a Giants fan, I watched the game. I also took a lot of looks at the Eagles game. You really have absolutely nothing to worry about. It would require a total breakdown on the Eagles part on both sides of the ball for the game to even be competitive. Tell Kolb to get to ready. He will playing the entire second half. Maybe even after the first quarter. The “any given Sunday” line, does not apply to this Oakland team. I feel for their fans. It’s not right that they are subjected to this.
Everyone is quitting on the Raider squad. I don’t blame Seymour for staying healthy. He knows and does not want to return to this garbage organization run by an over the hill owner with lawyers and bullies protecting him. Someone talked about a new Raider Stadium on the radio here in the bay area. What a joke. Not going to happen unless in LA. Cable will be gone by the bye. All of these coaches will be gone and the search will begin again, again. Raider fans, enjoy football for football sakes and forget about the Raiders doing anything right until the old man is gone. His son Mark, doesn’t want to have anything to do with running the team that will be the responsibility of Amy Trask. The Raiders are DOOMED! Unless someone decides to get in there and buy the team. Steve Young and Eddie D, still looking to buy a team?
