How bad are things in Dallas? Sufficiently bad that they’re picking over the 49ers’ trash heap.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter (via Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News), Rossum has agreed to terms with the Cowboys, and he will sign a contract on Wednesday.
Rossum, who was cut by the 49ers when they lifted the roster exemption from rookie receiver Michael Crabtree, is expected to handle punt and kick returns for the Cowboys.
As Archer points out, receiver Patrick Crayton fumbled a punt on Sunday against the Chiefs, and cornerback Terence Newman misplayed another punt, which was downed inside the five.
As to the kick-return function, running back Felix Jones has been injured, and receiver Miles Austin will be getting an expanded role in the offense.
Rossum spent three seasons in Atlanta under Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis.
