Jets-Dolphins one-liners

The Wildcat formation embarrassed the Jets defense on a final drive that culminated in a 31-27 victory for the Dolphins.

Said Jets LB Calvin Pace, "I'm going to be honest, I can't respect that stuff. All that Wildcat. Because we're in the NFL, man. If you're out there running that nonsense, it's crap. They got us today but we'll see them again and we'll have something for them. I guess you have to give them credit but the defense lost the game."

Jets WR Braylon Edwards made an impact in his debut with a touchdown, a 34-yard circus catch to set up one score and drawing a long pass interference penalty to set up another one.

The Jets ran a pair of fake punts in the first half, leading to two first downs and 10 points.

Jets K Jay Feely tied a Jets franchise record with his 22nd consecutive made field goal.

Dolphins QB Chad Henne completed 20 of 26 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns in leading his team back from three fourth quarter deficits.

WR Ted Ginn's 53-yard touchdown catch was the kind of big play the Dolphins have been hoping to see for some time.

Said Dolphins DT Jason Ferguson, "We're still climbing the ladder, but we put ourselves on a better step right now."

Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown completed a 21-yard pass to TE Anthony Fasano out of the Wildcat formation.

Dave Hyde of the Sun-Sentinel thinks that Monday night's game belongs on the list of great games between the Dolphins and Jets.

Wait, so running 2 fake punts is OK with Calvin Pace... but running the Wildcat is 'nonsense' and 'crap'?

Son, you got beat. Just say they out played you and move on.

The Wildcat may seem like a one trick pony, but when you have the talent of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams running it then it's much more than that. If they had one more speed guy like Ginn in on it then it would be sick (Pat White -bust?).

BTW, that game should not been close as those fake punts killed MIA's mo - they looked like they were about to blow them out before the 1st one.

Calvin Pace is a joke. He can't respect that stuff? haha.. you better respect it, because it kicked your team's ass. Oh, how about Lusaka Polite drilling you? do you respect him?

The wildcat is a fad around the nfl, but in Miami, it is a weapon. A powerful weapon that yields results to the tune of 7+ yards per carry.

Both teams have reason to be optimistic in their young QBs. They both played a good game.

btw, any other Fins fan tired of hearing Gebril Wilson's name. Unfortunately it is only when he screws up because that punk hasn't made a play all season long. All he's done is blown assignments and come up with stupid crucial penalties.

Rex Ryan and the Jets can beatdown the Wilcat but don't consider fake punts in the same bush league? Get real -the defense wasn't prepared or capable of containing a proven offense-keep the Wildcat and the fake punts and quit jawin'

  5. TheDPR says: October 13, 2009 9:12 AM

Calvin Pace sounds like a big baby. It is an offense's job to move the ball and score points. It is a defense's job to stop the opposing offense.

How does a professional defender not respect an offense that just beat him?

  6. rasalas says: October 13, 2009 9:26 AM

Braylon Edwards didn't draw that long pass-interference penalty. It was a gift. Even he didn't think it was PI, based on his non-reaction after missing the catch.

how ironic coming from a guy just coming off a suspension for ster...oh, wait, I mean the dreaded and omnipresent "tainted supplement"...understandable though. Just the other dayI took a tainted protein drink and I woke up with 21" biceps and 8 % bodyfat

    My one liners:

*Chad Henne looks like the real deal, poise, power and presense.
    *Sanchez, dito.
*The wildcat is still football, one man runs the ball=try and stop him=football.
*Calvin Pace, maybe if you didn't miss most of the season due to banned substance you might have fared better.
*We will see Ted Ginns potential now with Henne.
*You have to just love to watch Ricky run!
*Braylon Edwards will haunt the fins for years to come.
*Fins coaches have the biggest balls in the nfl bringing in Pat White after 3 1/2 qrtrs to run the ball.
*Will Allen will lose atleast one game for fins.
*Parcells, sign Ronnie to an extension NOW!
*Dan Henning deserves a raise, You never knew where the ball was going to go from play to play, beats the hell out of the Ricky to the right, ricky up the middle, short slant pass and then punt days!
    * Make alot of money next week, bet against buffalo!

Isn't this the same guy that said the Wildcat was "unfair" last year?

  11. Dolphan says: October 13, 2009 11:24 AM

yeah gibril wilson hasn't done much for the Dolphins besides getting us penalties. We need to revamp that defense, bring in some big names and make a push this year, because after that win and the losses by everyone else in the AFC east, were right back in the thick of things

The POS Jets are totally classless in winning. The POS Jets are totally classless in losing.

Conclusion: what did you expect from them?

Hey Pack1, if the jets defense was not prepared for the wildcat than why did Ryan say all week before the game that they have too stop the wildcat, stop Miami's running offense and put the ball in Henne's hands? What Ryan said during the post game comments was a cop out. They got SPANKED!!!! and they know it and more so they were exposed ever since the Saints game. Fact is you can run on this team. They have a bunch of pass rushers and pass rushers normally don't play the run all that well. If I was a Jets player I would be embarrassed because my coach came up with a lame excuse when he talked all week how he had too stop Miami's running game.

first braylon TD wasn't really a TD.... that is, unless getting your left foot down twice counts as "two feet". (watch the replay again).

that 50 yard pass interference wasn't PI. it was a straight-up drop by braylon edwards. again, watch the replay.

despite the refs, the dolphins won the game.

sanchez looks good, henne looks good - looks like we had a preview of what matches between these two teams will look like for the next several years. both teams have reasons to be optimistic. i wish ryan would stop jawing about the wildcat. his ethos has penetrated into the players. they can "not respect" it all they want, but the fact of the matter is the plays generate yards. poetic that the winning drive WAS the wildcat.

i agree with the poster that said it took the biggest balls in the league to introduce pat white to the NFL in the final drive, under two minutes, and trailing.... but good for pat white.

    henne looked GREAT.

too bad you didn't do a live blog, florio! would have been fun

Hey Calvin Pace... In case you didn't notice, your team, the Jets, ran a wildcat play too. And it failed miserably.

  17. ANUoldman says: October 13, 2009 1:35 PM

the Calvin Pace and Jason Ferguson quotes say it all...

one's throwing a tantrum basically saying 'do over! do over!' using the word 'I'

the other uses the word 'we' and talks about how they are working to get better

if that isn't telling about team maturity... I don't know what is

  18. Mr.D says: October 13, 2009 2:03 PM

Jets Suck. Mr. Ryan thought that he could stop the wildcat like he did with Baltimore. Well guess what. This year's Jets D is NOTHING compared to last year's Ravens D. The Ravens D wouldnt have given up like the Jets D did

If last night's performance is a true gauge as to what Henne is going to be doing for the Fins, then Pennington will have been responsible for creating 2 turn around seasons. Once when he came to town, and once when he went down to injury.

I kept wondering the whole first half where the hell is the long pass from Henne? I figured they'd come out of the gate with a sling it down field just to tell the defense, "Yeah, this isn't Pennington." They seem to have saved that for the fourth quarter and it really worked. I know just about every Dolphin fan out there was going NUTS when Henne threw it over the top to Ginn. I've missed the long ball. Now, teams are going to have to gameplan for a traditional passing game AND a "gimmick" (gimmick THIS) running game. I think the future of the AFC East this season could be changing. We'll find out in 2 weeks if there is really something to be excited about for this season, or if it's more something to be stoked about for next year.

Top 3 Jets-Fins game all time.

Calvin Pace has more respect for BS PI calls and punt fakes than the Wildcat? Get you another helicopter ride roid boy... and read FinsNation for a better take on what happened to you and your no-class lardbutt of a coach last night:

    http://www.finsnation.com/

Black Thunder (aka Ronnie Brown) has been a ************ (Oedipus Complex Gentleman - ing) tank lately. And last night, even more so - plowing through Jets defenders, ******** (defecating) in Derell Revis' mouth, ******* (urinating) in Kris Jenkin's earhole and shoving a fist into Calvin Pace's *** (hind parts), reaching into his stomach contents, and yanking out a fistful of steroids, waving them in Pace's face and saying, "Why even bother taking these, ********** (Oedipus Complex Gentleman)? I own your *** (hind parts) either way!" all before crashing into the endzone for two touchdowns.

As a Jets fan, yeah, Pace really needs to pipe down about not respecting the wildcat. However, for the majority of the game the Jets were able to keep it pretty much in check (Fins only had 10 points going into the 4th quarter).

I think conditioning was a big problem with the Jets D as they definitely lost an edge in the 4th. It seemed like the Fins O-line was completely manhandling the D-line and linebackers. Jenkins sat out a number of plays in the 4th so this could explain part of that, but the rest of the team looked sluggish. Great game though, I'm more psyched than ever about having edwards, and I look forward to the rematch 3 weeks from now.

  22. Crunchy Clam says: October 13, 2009 3:06 PM

Wock- Are you serious? I know it was a do or die game for miami, but.... really? Try not to let your elation turn into juvenile nastiness.

The jets d played crummy but why single out Jenkins? He dominated whenever he was in (3 tackles behind the line) and made a ridiculous play when he split the Fins center and guard to make a one armed tackle of Brown 4 yards in the backfield. Would've made much more sense if you brought up Scott or Ellis.

  23. rtl334 says: October 13, 2009 3:29 PM

It's not as if the Jets D suffered a series of coverage breakdowns. They were smashmouthed to the tune of over 150 yards on the ground. Add to that big plays out of play-action tells me they were simply beaten. The blueprint is set for the Jets D...stay out of 3rd and long situations and they can be had. I have a feeling their season can go down the road of their last one. This one could have been ugly in favour of the Dolphins if not for 2 punt fakes, two missed interceptions and two dreadful calls by the refs. The classless Jets need to go back to the drawing board.

  24. Juicer says: October 13, 2009 3:44 PM

How is the wildcat crap and nonsense? Most of the time Ronnie just runs right up the middle in the huge hole created by placing vernon carey and jake long next to each other. The middle, isn't that where Calvin pace is supposed to be? Why don't you go shoot some more steroids into your @$$ calvin and then complain about what is crap and nonsense you bum.

  25. guvsta says: October 13, 2009 3:46 PM

The NFL is built on gimmicks. Any time Pace blitzes the QB or his linemen engage in a stunt, it's something different from the norm. A play-action pass is a gimmick designed to throw the defence off. The shotgun is a gimmick to give the QB more time. And his bloody Jets faked a punt twice.

It makes me annoyed when other players disparage the Wildcat because it's just just part of the NFL's constant evolution. Eventually, teams will figure it out and Sparano will have to resort to something else. Maybe Pace will have learnt how to be a better loser by then. Thank god we didn't end up with him!!!

That heat and humidity is really tough on opponents. It would have been a lot worse if it were a sunday 1pm. The ball control helped wear down the Jets D so in the 4th quarter, they were really tired.

I thought it was a great game by both teams. Either one of them could have won it. Going back and forth. With both young QBs, it looks like it will be a fun rivalry. Edwards will be a huge addition to the Jets if he can stay away from the dropsies.

What kind of game would it have been had that trade not been made? I give credit to the Jets' front office for getting something done. Now, we just need to kick the Pats right in the mouth.

Hey Clam... if you actually READ the post, you'll see I only edited it for family consumption - the link to the real deal is in the comment.

And secondly... Jenkins is a monster, the only real stud in the Jets front seven. But Jake Grove did have his moments vs. Jenkins, as Ronnie Brown running it right up the gut on the Jets time after time after time - attests too.

    ------------------------------------

the score is the score, but the Jets weren't in it... they were run the hell over all game.... 1/3 of the rushing game from 2 fake punts... 2 or 3 wildcats and screens saved from TD's by toe trips... refs, chance, special teams bumbles all went against the Phins and they still won....

a 4 TD whoopin was narrowly avoided by the Jets...

The Jets defense is going downhill...... can't stop the big pass plays?

  30. Route36West says: October 13, 2009 8:53 PM

Ya Its funny Calvin Pace says he doesnt respect the Dolphins for running the wildcat but I didnt here him saying he doesnt respect his offense for running fake punts. IMO I respect the wildcat alot more then fake punts. B/c the defense knows the wildcat is coming and they have a chance to plan how to stop it before the snap. With a fake punt all your doing is catching the defense off guard it doesnt require any talent like the wildcat does.

Pace is just upset that he got out classed by the Dolphins.

And this isnt Jets hate I have always liked the Jets more then any other team in the AFC(Except when Mangini was the coach). And Im an Eagles fan so I got love for the Ryans.
