Austin heads NFC honorees this week

Roy Williams' injury and the Kansas City Chiefs' bad tackling allowed Cowboys wideout Miles Austin to win his first career NFC Offensive Player of the Week award.

Austin capped his 10-catch, 250-yard day with the second of his two touchdowns -- a 60-yard catch-and-run in overtime. That play helped Dallas avert what would have been a crushing upset against the winless Chiefs.

Cardinals corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week thanks to his 49-yard, game-winning interception return for a touchdown against the Texans.

Panthers punter Jason Baker was the NFC's Special Teams Player of the Week because he averaged 44.8 yards on four punts and dropped two inside the 20. Hey, it's not his fault he wins in a quiet week for special teamers in the NFC.

Tom, why not add that the awful QB play by the opponent allowed Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to win his first defensive player of the year award. Was it his first? I dont know and dont care but we could do without you trying to minimize the day Austin had.

You are biased, which means you will never be taken seriously by your peers. Same with florio.

Have a GREAT day tommy boy!!

All I have to say it's about Damn time. You can't tell me the Cowboys won't be playin the heck out of him next week. Even when williams comes back. Go get em' Austin.

Derek Anderson deserved it for his win that Quinn could not get.

QB Derek Anderson was 2 for 17 for 23 yards and 1 interception.

WAHHHH! WAHHHH! Why not Jared Allen? WAHHHH! WAHHHH!

    Repeat as necessary.

Tips on how to earn Offensive player of the week:

    Step 1: Play the Chiefs
    Step 2: Profit

Two weeks in a row now, both backups. First Kolb, now Austin. Next week Cooley? Nah, he's a starter.

"Thats right baby!!! this is the first of many"

First of many what?? Season with no playoffs...oh yes! I totally agree! It's funny how Dallas Cowboy fan revels in the fact that a nobody has a career day AND the team was VERY lucky to win against a horrible KC squad! It's almost like Rom-O-Choke breaking some meaningless PASS ATTEMPTS record.
    Wow, can anyone say: Devolving!!

  8. VoxVeritas says: October 14, 2009 5:35 PM

No Eagirls player ever had a 250 yard receiving day, bad tackling or not.

  9. dakotah says: October 14, 2009 5:49 PM

I'm a Cowboys fan, but I'm afraid CapsLockKey has it exactly right. Any offensive performance against the Chiefs has to be taken with a large grain of salt. If he could catch he'd have three touchdowns and a lot fewer yards.

Perhaps I'm wrong, he's starting to look like the second coming of T.O. - without the attitude.

  10. Ocelot138 says: October 14, 2009 6:11 PM

Wow, Cowboys fans are really something.

Eke out a win in OT against the Chiefs, and still they find the ego to trash-talk about it.

You're only out of the NFCE basement because the Redskins are a joke in the NFL. Enjoy another year of the playoff obscurity, fools.

I think Austin got more yards in one game than any philly receiver has all season.

Your an idiot...keep praising your scrub squad. Philly will knock you back in check come November. Your boy Austin is surely enjoying is 5 minutes of fame, this weeks offensive star will fade just like the weak a$$ star he plays behined.

  14. Leviathan says: October 14, 2009 6:36 PM

I love how because it's Dallas and lightining rod Tony Romo, we have to qualify this 250 YARDS as being something less than amazing because it was Kansas City.

It broke a Cowboy receiving record. All receivers. Ever.

Were it say a Colts or NY Giants receiver who got 250 yards against, say Oakland, I imagine most people would forget relativity and just gush effusive.

  15. cowboys1 says: October 14, 2009 6:55 PM

Haha you still didnt answer the question pubicreign, i think there is one guy over 250. Dont cry about it tho maybe mcnabb can throw up on himself in the superbowl again.

  16. Ocelot138 says: October 14, 2009 7:13 PM

    Cowboys1

Desean Jackson had 3 games where he was 100+ yards recieving.

I know math is hard when you went to a Texas public school.

    100 x 3 = ?

    Go home, moron.

  17. Shinywalrus says: October 14, 2009 7:19 PM

Whether or not Miles Austin's accomplishment is loses a little of its shine because it came against Kansas City isn't really the point. Let's just say that it does - fair enough?

Isn't it still a little bit wonky to "thank" the absence of another player and "bad tackling" for one player's stupendous performance, while then proceeding to praise two other players on their own merits for actions that could just as easily have been attributed to other players?

I understand that blogging often means repeating information multiple times and typing lots of stories - different ways of constructing statements breaks the monotony.

Rather sloppily, however, PFT tends to utilize this "creative discretion" far more frequently with certain teams and players. You're a blog, but you're a paid blog now. It might be time to grow up a little bit and pay attention to at least a modernized approach to journalistic integrity.

Wow desean jackson has TWO 100+ yard games and a total of 260 yards on the season.

you dont even know your own team, MORON

  22. pubicreign says: October 14, 2009 10:45 PM

cowboys1 riddle me this....Your turd Austin has been floating around your locker room for four years, overnight he develops a skill to statistically overcome every single Cowturds WR in franchise history? Hmmm either a ONE hit wonder ooooorrrrr just another reason why your coaching staff is terrible. Orrrr maybe you guys have to much pride to start him over a lame duck WR that you traded nearly an entire years draft for. Either way im sure wades in his office pulling his famous forehead slap.

    True talent: Jeremy Maclin
    4 games/187 yds/2 TD's

    One Hit Turd: Miles Austin
    64 Games/685 yds/6 TD's

  23. cowboys1 says: October 14, 2009 11:17 PM

bottom line the philly receiving corps is not as productive as dallas'

  24. Ocelot138 says: October 15, 2009 2:00 AM

You're right, cowboys1. Caught me in a bad stat. Desean only has 2 100+ yard receiving games. I'll admit when I make a mistake.

Keep note of the moment - it'll be the only time the Cowboys get the better of anything regarding the Eagles all season.

Not really, if your lame QB wouldnt have Witten to check down with you would be fighting in the basement with the Foreskins.

All you eagirl fans need to do some homework your best receiver is a TE as well, except our receivers are better, all you have is maclin. and please dont start bragging on a guy that drops the ball before he goes into the endzone

  27. cowboys1 says: October 15, 2009 11:13 AM

Ocelot138 and pubicreign, I'm only gonna do this one time cuz im bored and need a good argument and you guys are slow. -Brag about your defense, they're ok, but dont brag about your offense, seriously

  28. pubicreign says: October 15, 2009 12:57 PM

We will see...November your getting stomped....again.

  29. Ocelot138 says: October 15, 2009 5:10 PM

It's weird, because that receiver who dropped a ball before he reached the endzone...

I watched him reach the endzone. In the postseason.

How many of Dallas' receivers reached the endzone in the postseason?

    Oh, right. 0.

  30. cowboys1 says: October 15, 2009 5:45 PM

when is the last time the eagirls went to a superbowl where the QB didnt throw up on his cleats during the game. I can understand before the game, but during, hmmm. and dont count on mcnabb during the playoffs, he'll for sure be hurt again.

  31. danlinker says: October 15, 2009 5:56 PM

funny, florio has the choice of headline, and of course, he lists austin's offensive award in that headline, and slips in DRC's award in the text body. These are the not so subtle things this guy does with his articles.

  32. yourStadium=ourTV says: October 16, 2009 1:58 PM

On one hand, Austin had a great game and finally broke out, and on the other, he hasnt done shit before sunday! All i know is that we needed him cause we r missin TO bad right now. And why do all of u haters gotta post on our forum? Go back to ur nest with all of your SB trophies and stay there! My God for a team with 0 lombardi trophies u guys sure r cocky! I dnt see no lions fans talkin smack on here lol.

When was the last time ANYONE currently on your team won a playoff game? For the love of god, stop rehashing the early 90's. Your team smells like a combination of Mushu Gi pan and hot garbage, deal with it.

  34. cowboys1 says: October 16, 2009 8:16 PM

All you eagirl fans are ridiculous, last year was your last chance, cowboys are on their way up and eagirls on their way down. You havent said one positive thing about your team, just negative about other teams, cuz there's nothing to brag about, "don't replay the 90's". What can you replay? a regular season win? playoff wins? what? nothing
