Patriots make Seau move official

The Patriots wouldn’t confirm reports Tuesday that linebacker Junior Seau was joining the team.

It made us wonder, briefly, if this was going to be another Cleo Lemon situation.  (Lemon was reported as being on the verge of joining the Patriots in the offseason, but it never happened.)

But the Patriots announced the signing of Seau Wednesday, marking the fourth straight season he’s played for the team.

To make room for Seau, the team cut former Raiders defensive tackle Terdell Sands.

We’ve become accustomed to Seau joining the Patriots during the season by now, but it’s still remarkable that a future Hall of Famer — who is the same age as Mike Gundy a few years back — can step off his surfboard and into a playoff chase so seamlessly.

Look for Seau to focus initially on a limited amount of snaps at inside linebacker, likely on running downs.

Didn’t this dude just get his ass run over by a bull in Canada a couple weeks ago?
    More like Junior Gayau.

Raheem Morris was in what 8th or 9th grade when Senior Seau entered the league?

Seau has been surprisingly effective for a man of his NFL advanced years in his previous stints with the Pats. Still, I don’t know why Belichick is signing him so early but my guess would be that he feels the Pats need a little more veteran leadership on defense with Bruschi, Vrabel and Harrison all gone in one offseason.
Even so, Seau can not help with the pass rush, which is arguably the Pats biggest defensive problem right now. And he can not help with Brady’s accuracy, arguably the Pats biggest offensive problem right now. So, even though the Pats have been thin at LB, I am surprised by this move so early in the season.

    They dropped the Terd?
    Signing Seau is really pathetic.

Gee, another 40 year old coming out of retirement, yet hardly anything is being said about him.
    Makes one wonder………..

Who in their right mind would name their kid “Terdell?” One things for sure….nobody is gonna pick on that dude though.

About the same as stepping off a tractor.
You could almost change a few words here, for some other 3 time retiree – yet, you applaud Seau and pan Favre.

See how easy it is? Seamless, actually. Yet – so much media drama.

We get it…Even though we know and you know it’s not even close to the same scenario.

He wasn’t retired. He has not been retired since 2006. He was just unsigned and would only sign with the Patriots.
