Veteran kicker Matt Stover worked out with the Colts on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, a league source tells us he has agreed to terms.
Stover will replace Adam Vinatieri, who per Adam Schefter of ESPN will miss six weeks after undergoing knee surgery.
The absence of Vinatieri and the presence of the 41-year-old Stover could open the door for rookie punter Pat McAfee to get a crack at the longer field goals. The former West Virginia standout was recruited as a kicker but took over the punting duties due to an undeniably strong leg, and he remains the only person to kick a field goal of 50 yards or longer at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field.
UPDATE: The team has announced that Vinatieri has undergone arthroscopic surgery to remove a piece of cartilage from his right knee. The team says that Vinatieri is expected to miss four to eight weeks. The Colts have not yet announced the addition of Stover.

In a dome? Matt Stover ? are you kiddin me? - great signing! Extremely accurate, awesome character. Although his range may not be the greatest, from inside the 45 he will be lights out in that dome.

Matt Stover is a class act and a future Ravens ROH inductee. I wish him nothing but the very best (except on 11/22/09)!
Stover is great from 45 yards and shorter. His kickoffs always landed on the 10-15 yard line so the teams always started drives on the 30 yard line after return.
Great pickup. Maybe Colts need to look at picking up a FA kicker after next years draft and groom him to replace Vinatieri.
