The ineptitude of the Cleveland Browns offense on Sunday proved a boon for Browns punter Dave Zastudil.
Zastudil, who punted nine times in Cleveland's 6-3 win over the Bills, dropped seven of those punts inside the Buffalo 20 and was named the AFC's Special Teams Player of the Week for the effort. He had a 42.9 yard average and a 42.1 net. And that's good.
Also copping player of the week honors in the American Football Conference were Denver quarterback Kyle Orton, who went 35 for 48 for 330 yards with two TDs and a pick in the Broncos OT win over the Patriots in Hoodie vs. Hoodie I. Orton directed touchdown drives of 98 and 90 yards in the win. Orton now leads Bears quarterback Jay Cutler 1-0 in 2009 Offensive Player of the Week awards.
Steelers linebacker James Harrison was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his (deep breath...) eight tackle, three sack, two tackle for loss, two qb pressure and one forced fumble performance against Detroit.
Bellichek was wearin a jacket. and a pom pom tuque.
James Harrison is the best!
I will always remember that pick he ran back for a touchdown in the Super Bowl. It was one of the all-time greatest moments in NFL history.
what about ced benson?
putting up 100+ yards on the ravens d wont get you that award!??
Defensive players of the week should be disqualified if they play the Lions, Rams, or Browns.
"Orton now leads Bears quarterback Jay Cutler 1-0 in 2009 Offensive Player of the Week awards."
Don't expect Cutler to win any Offensive Player of the Week awards while Ron Turner remains the Bears coordinator. More evidence of his ineptitude is reflected in Cedric Benson's offensive output.
How can you fail to mention that Zastudil had 3 punts INSIDE THE ONE YARD LINE!?!?
I love how the experts now think orton is a legit nfl qb all of a sudden. he is playing exactly as he did for the bears when was considered a below average qb. he manages games and doesnt make turnovers.that's nice as long as you are winning what happens when you get behind by a couple of td's and have to get back in and throw more than 10-15 yard passess?will you still be loving him after a couple losses in a row because he can't make those throws?plus you have to consider he has the benefit of not playing in turner's offense.
Didn't that James Harrison stat line come basically on the last Lions drive of the game?
Find it funny that you can win an award playing A) against a fat corpse standing behind what the Lions call an offensive line, and B) when you're the defending champs and your team can barely beat the defending 'Zero-n-16ers'.
Hey Cygnus,
You're a complete idiot. The Broncos were behind by 10 points coming into the second half on Sunday. Guess who led them on 90 yard and 98 yard drives to get back in the game? Oh, I guess that would be Mr. Kyle Orton. Do you even know what you're talking about? And don't forget the final drive in overtime to win. I think Kyle Orton deserves credit for what he's done. He's playing far beyond expectations, and I know he's happy to be out of that crap hole called Chicago. Jay Cutler wishes he had kept his mouth shut now. Congratulations to Kyle Orton for a well-deserved award. He's certainly earned it.
Joeschmoe....NO. The stats didn't come on the last drive. The sacks on the last drive to ice the game came from Lamaar Woodley, William Gay, and Lawrence Timmons. Harrison's sacks came earlier in the game. Along with the QB pressures. Get your facts straight.
hey sanchez how much time was left in the game when he led them on those drives?I am guessing there was still plenty of time where he could run the normal offense and did not have to to I don't know run a hurry up offense that requires a long pass and not a short one that marshall runs the rest of the way with.and cutler and chicago are doing just fine thanks.I can't wait till your donkeys start to lose and you start whining about how he is an average qb.like I said he is no different than he was in chicago a good game manager but will see what happens will things don't go your way.
Orton and his broncos has come from behind a couple of times now and he is doing it playing well, just think the broncos are fine, now they have a qb than doesn't make a lot of mistakes like the one they used to have, oh an more selections in the next draft.
Yeah James Harrison is the best... He did so amazing behind his stellar defensive line! Also it's not like he was playing against the Lions or anything! Oh wait...
Harrison is a thug who robbed DeMarcus Ware and/or Ed Reed of Defensive Player of the Year last season because the media is too Steeler biased, hell the whole world is too Steeler biased.
Can't help it that the Steeler Nation's reach is world wide. I love the fact that I can go to Rome, walk into a wine bar with Penguins, Steelers, Pitt Panthers, Duquesne Dukes, and Carnegie Mellon decorations on the walls (This place exists, and no, the owner is not from Pittsburgh, he is born and bred in Italy) and enjoy a Steeler game at 7:00pm with other members of the World Wide Steeler Nation. It's quite lovely actually....
no it did not come on the last drive against the lions did you pay attention to the game joe schmoe jerk!
all steelers haters just shut up and stop talking nonsense, because whoever you like will never achieve what the steelers have!
