Bengals secure extension to sell 3,000 tickets

On Wednesday, the Cincinnati Enquirer suggested that the Bengals could get a 24-hour extension to sell their remaining non-premium tickets for Sunday’s home game against the Texans only if fewer than 1,500 seat remained as of 1:00 p.m. ET Thursday.

We’d never heard of that specific limit before, and to the extent that it normally applies it now doesn’t in this case.

The Bengals have announced that they’ve indeed received a 24-hour extension of the 72-hour deadline for reaching sellout status — but the Bengals also have acknowledged that more than 3,000 tickets need to be sold.

“We thank our fans for stepping up with a good run of support the last few days, bringing us close enough to get this extension,” Bengals executive vice-president Katie Blackburn said in a team-issued release.  “We are continuing to work to lift the blackout. It’s unclear if we will make it — we have more than 3000 tickets to go — but we have great fans and hope we can reach the level that allows our sellout streak to continue.”

The Bengals have sold out 46 straight regular-season and postseason games, dating back to 2003, in a game against the Texans.

    It is Cincinnati….
Perhaps they need to hire “Herb Tarlek” as Director of Sales…..
Which Reminds me…. I would have rather nailed Baily than Jennifer.
There was something about Baily that was more appealing then Jennifer’s hogans.

The fact that this franchise profits off of nepotism is a joke. Katie Blackburn , the daughter of Mike Brown, is unqualified. She and her father should buy out the rest of the unsold tickets and give them away for free to poor kids in the Cinci area to make up for the millions they cashed in on the back of better NFL franchises and local taxpayers, and not to mention the torture inflicted in the last two decades on loyal Cinci fans.
While it is tempting to make fun of Cinci fans for not buying out their stadium of a 4-1 team, it is understandable given the skepticism of Mike Brown and if the Bengals are going to disappoint them again.
The NFL should amend the blackout rule and force team owners to buy out the remaining tickets. Why should the NFL’s other teams lose out on revenue because the local owner is incompetent (Mike Brown) or the local city is not NFL ready(JAX)>

Dont worry Bengals fans. Kroger will bail out the Bengals again. If not that then the Bengals will buy the tickets themselves and give them to servicemen like they did in week 1.

That post is worth one copy of Florio’s book.
What happened to that contest anyway, I know you didn’t give away all the books that didn’t sell.

I love it. 4-1 and the darlings of the NFL and *still* facing blackouts?
Paper tigers. Not going beyond the first round of the playoffs, IF they even get in.

Don’t read well do ya trickbunny, this city is mired in a terrible economic downturn, and there is rampant distrust and dissatisfaction with ownership. This game is third tier as far as the schedule goes as well, so it’s no surprise there’s an issue with the sellout streak. I also love how you attempt to lay blame for your prediction about the playoffs on the fans, ‘they can’t sell out a game at 4-1 so there’s no way they make a run in January.’ Brilliant.
My prediciton is that something will happen at the last minute (good call ark) and the game will be classified as a sell out.
As long as there is no hangover after three division games this is a game we should win. Recent History (5 weeks) tells me that we come in ready to play and win, 27-20, perhaps another nail biter.
