Chiefs demote wide receivers coach

The Chiefs have fired demoted wide receivers coach Dedric Ward.

The move comes six weeks after Kansas City handed offensive coordinator Chan Gailey a pink slip.
Ward’s replacement will be Richie Anderson, a former running back for the Jets.  Ward remains on staff, but in what capacity is unclear.
Head coach Todd Haley refused to comment on the maneuver Wednesday, but had expressed discontent with the Chiefs’ wideouts throughout training camp.  No. 1 receiver Dwayne Bowe was even benched at one point.
Haley, a former receivers coach himself, has played musical chairs at the position into the season.  Mark Bradley and Bobby Wade, who signed off the street on the Monday after Week One, have been shuttled in and out of the starting lineup.  According to the Chiefs’ website depth chart, Bobby Engram is a third-stringer.

  1. Demoted from wide receivers coach? What’s lower than wide receivers coach, waterboy? Gatorade supply technician? Loogie sweeper?

  2. Good luck with that move. Like putting a tiny bandaid on a gaping wound. Making a small tweak on the wideouts is not going to make this team win.

  3. Todd Haley is fast becoming Scott Pioli’s “first big mistake”.
So far he’s fired the Offensive Coordinator and taken on the play calling responsibility himself. That’s working out just fine so far, they’re 30th out of 32 teams. Ya think Chan Gailey would have done worse? I guess it’s possible.
Now he’s demoted the Receivers Coach because he’s not satisfied with the Receivers performance.
I have a suggestion for Mr. Haley. If you’d like to see better performance from your WR’s try throwing the ball a little more often to the best WR on the team, Dwayne Bowe, and a little less to the journeyman Bobby Wade.

  4. Tell Coach Anderson that the hookers tend to loiter in Independence, just a stone’s throw away from Arrowhead Stadium. How convenient!

    buck, get it straight…
“Raiders Offensive Coordinator and bed-and-breakfast manager””
I’d be mad at you for piggybacking on my joke…..if you didn’t conjure the hilarious image of a quant little Oakland based bed and breakfast.

  7. In other news….1 trainer was demoted to equipment manager and another was fired for taping the hand of Dwayne Bowe, therefore he has trouble catching passes from Matt Cassel.
The trainer that was fired was picked up by the Florida Tuskers.

    That’s worse than being fired.

Your a idiot. Im positive you have never even been in Independence before just by your moronic statement. What did you do, look at a Rand Mcnally Atlas and see Independence is a suburb of KC?
Please leave the library computers alone and get back to your trailer and fetch you some bath water from the creek.
    Dipsh*t

  11. Just glad to see that K.C. is almost as ridiculous as Oakland.
No light at the end of the tunnel – enjoy fighting the Raiders for the basement.
    Dregs.

  12. Nice to see things are finally starting to settle down in KC.
Does Haley realize the season started already? He’s acting as if it is April….
    Strange, Strange, Strange

  13. I am confused. Their receivers are not that bad. Bowe is pretty good. Cassel isnt bad either. That team just has no running game and no defense to speak of. Dorsey is a huge bust at DT. Can anyone name another defensive player on the Chiefs. And Haley is clueless, just like Raheem Morris, Jim Zorn, Steve Spagnolo, and Tom Cable. None of them are making it past this season…
Oh, and the Skins are favored by 6 1/2 over the Chiefs this weekend. Everyone should take that line, Skins cant beat anyone by more than 3 points (and yes, i still think we win, just ugly and barely…).

So true. I understand Pioli and Haley want to make sure the message gets across that there is no change they are unwilling to make but sooner or later, you need to work on improving. It’s tough to improve when the ground is constantly shifting under your feet.
Enough tinkering. That’s what you do in the offseason, not mid-season.
It seems pretty clear to me, Haley doesn’t seem to know how to delegate and may have bitten off more than he can chew.

  15. dedric ward was their WR coach? so THAT’s where he went. i wondered what happened to that guy.
but yeah, *probably* a good idea to demote an ex-WR and promote an ex-RB to be the wide receivers coach.

  16. Maybe this means that the Chiefs are going to start using the wide receivers as running backs since we don’t seem to have a running game (or a passing game, or a defense).
Hey, but we got a good kicker, and a good punter, and some luck on special teams.
