Jets receiver Jerricho Cotchery played on Monday night despite his injured hamstring, but he didn’t make much of an impact.
He didn’t enter the game against Miami until the ninth snap and caught just one pass for four yards. It looks like he’ll get even less production this week.
Speaking about Cotchery’s availability this week, Rex Ryan said Thursday, “It doesn’t look very good. We’ll see how it goes.”
Newsday said it’s nearly a “certainty” that Cotchery won’t play, and his spot in the lineup could be filled by a surprising option.
Practice squad running back Danny Woodhead, who became a PFT favorite during training camp, is learning wide receiver. He could play the slot Sunday against Buffalo.
Woodhead impressed the Jets while pretending to be Wes Welker on the scout team before they played the Patriots. In the process, Woodhead may have earned a role as Ryan’s version of Troy Brown.
“With our running back situation -- we’ve got three really, really good tailbacks -- I think when you look at that, his better shot might be to learn receiver,” Ryan said. “He could be one of those jack of all trades guy. He becomes really valuable that way.”
