FOX apologizes for jabs at Jessica Simpson

On the most recent edition of FOX NFL Sunday, a cartoon was aired mocking the ex-girlfriend of Tony Romo, Jessica Simpson, for gaining weight.

The segment, sponsored by Burger King (which knows a thing or two about causing weight gain), contained multiple jabs at Simpson.

Said a cartoon version of tight end Jason Witten in the segment, “Unlike Tony, at least Jessica comes up big when it counts!”

A cartoon version of coach Wade Phillips added, “Say Tony, is Jessica around? We could use a defensive tackle!”

According to Bill Nichols of the Dallas Morning News, FOX issued the following statement:

“Burger King
did not have any editorial input in the creation of the animation that
ran last Sunday, and no one from Burger King Corp., approved it before
it aired. . . .  Upon reflection, our poor attempt at humor was
insensitive, and we deeply apologize to anyone who might have been
offended
.”

Frankly, they should have apologized for the fact that it wasn’t funny.

Then again, if failed attempts at humor were grounds for a mea culpa, we’d be issuing one pretty much every day.

And now Jessica Simpson wants to know if the mea culpa is the name of the new hamburger at Burger King.

I agree, it wasn’t funny. I like their pregame show better than CBS or ESPN, but I wish they would stick to football….comedy is not their thing.

What do you expect when you get two classless organizations together like Faux News and the Cowgirls?

I thought that was a hilarious segment. The part about Jessica was corny because it’s been over done. Really.
Florio, you should have posted the video on the page. Those guys nailed it regarding Coach Stay Puft.

How humiliating it must be for her to be constantly reminded that she use to lay with Tony Romo. The saddest part is that she was considered the smart one between the two.

Is Jerruh’s classlessness contagious. Just like the Boys fans to act like that impetuous moron. Lower that screen for goodness sakes!!!

  7. Wiscdave says: Oct 15, 2009 8:10 AM

Why is it so hard to issue a direct apology? That statement is the equivalent of Ron Ziegler’s “mistakes were made…” I am not so sure that an apology was warranted–Simpson is a public figure and public figures are fair game for comedy. But if you’re going to apologize, apologize. Don’t try to get credit for something you didn’t do.

The funniest part is that both of them have done more good with their lives than you could ever dream yourself doing. But that’s ok, keep on bashing a woman that’s more beautiful than you’ll ever have, and a guy that’s more man than you’ll ever be.

Right, b/c most of the people watching and laughing probably are way out of her league. A woman gain weight, how dare she! Way to kick someone while they’re down. Stay classy FOX.

Jessica has been starving herself to lose weight.
she has had only 1 setback so far, when she ate her dog and blamed it on a coyote.
As for insensitive gimme a break you are fat if you get upset when you are reminded of this, buy a mirror and do something about it.
So when an obese persons sits on top of you aka next to you at a ballgame or on a plane you are not thinking to yourself “What is that horrid smell coming from this fat obese slob hanging into my area!”
nah course not that is insensitive…….
Fox gets away with inciting violence towards our President every 15 minutes since he was sworn in, so why would they apologize for this?

Do any of you guys remember the “overweight” Lindsay Lohan? If any of you prefer the skinnier version your nuts. And Jessica Simpson losing weight would be very similar. Stop making fun of her weight, she is perfect, all 140 pounds of her. And her stupidity is faked. She had to make herself relevant somehow. Only truly dumb thing she has done was let Tony Romo make a sex video of them, which will one day be leaked, when Romo gets cut and needs money. Anyone wanna make a bet on that scenario???

In that case, Texas is by far the best place to find:
    - Mediocre football teams that choke in big games
    - Egomaniacal NFL football team puppetmasters
    - Limbaugh supporters
    - cattle rapers, illegal aliens, inbred mamas boys (Vox is all three)

The only good thing about Fox is its Sunday NFL pregame show.

    bspurloc:
Thanks for making this B-movie thread worth reading. Your joke wasn’t abusive because it was outlandish. It made us laugh but did not attack the real Jess. If her fame and beauty had not made her a simple caricature of what half of America would love to be like, she would be nobody with nothing. This is the price of fame.
Jessica was probably a sweet, innocent and naive girl before her debut in ’99 but hopefully has become an even better person as a result of her so-so career and failed relationships.
Life’s lessons can be hurtful and money doesn’t always buy happiness. I’m sure that she’ll be fine if she develops her intellect and B.S. meter instead of depending on her beauty.
As for the Fox pregame guys, who doesn’t love Terry and the boys. Jess could learn a lot from Bradshaw’s self-deprecating humor. Frank’s bit tees off on each of them regularly. The show’s mix of pertinent football information and consistently irreverent humor is what separates it from the others. Aside from other Fox sports programming, Bones, Idol and SYTYCD, I personally boycott Fox.
Because of Faux news right wing propaganda, our nation is on the verge of reliving the civil rights era.
There are no utterances from Rupert Murdoch’s gang of liars that should be of interest to intelligent Americans and Murdoch should be sent back to Australia with charges of sedition hanging over his head. His yellow journalism is exceeded only by the Drugster and his vile mongering of hate and fear.
