Raiders get blacked out again

According to Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune, the Raiders will be blacked out on local television for a second straight week.

Raiders fans, assuming Ice Cube isn’t the only one left, get to watch Cardinals-Seahawks instead.
Club spokesman John Herrera would love to pin it on CBS broadcaster Rich Gannon, but most unbiased observers likely agree that the organization’s front office is to blame for a lack of fan support.
Owner Al Davis and company have made an unrelenting commitment to bumbling quarterback JaMarcus Russell, who’s led the Raiders to a 32nd overall ranking on offense.
The pre-Week One acquisition of defensive end Richard Seymour has not cured Oakland’s defensive woes.  The unit is 31st overall and 31st against the run.
And don’t forget the Raiders’ latest first-round pick.  Darrius Heyward-Bey, the 7th overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft, has been targeted 20 times through five games.  He’s caught two of them.

This is why the NFL needs the UFL as a developmental league … if a franchise starts to become a liability to the league like Oakland, Cleveland, and St. Louis, the league would have a built in replacement available. We could just replace Oakland with the Florida Tuskers and the games would immediately be more competitive.

How many are drops versus how many were not thrown in the county by Russell?

I am a true blue Raider fan till the end but its time the fans make a stand this non-sense needs to stop the product on the field is WoW terrible and Al Davis needs to learn the hard way and the only way that is going to happen is the we the fans say enough is enough and not attend the games or purchase merchandise and please John Herrera is a BUM a big ASS BUM

This is awesome… I can’t think of anything better in life than watching this organization completely fall apart. What a joke of a franchise. Commissioner Goddell should disband the Raiders as a whole and have Al Davis executed for gross incompetence.

I’ve never understood the blackout policy – what kind of threat is “Buy tickets or we’ll show a better game on the TV”??

  6. StevieMo says: Oct 15, 2009 5:56 PM

I’ve lived in the Bay Area all my life, and the revolt is on. LOOOOOONG-term fans are pissed and more and more aren’t going to give the team a dime until Al Davis is out of the building for good. They will not sell out another game this year and next year will be worse.
Oakland Tribune columnist Monte Poole wrote about this plague this morning. I think it properly conveys the feeling around here.
Luckily I’m an NFL fan, not a fan of any particular team. Davis was a HOFer in his day, but everything is blowing up in his face at this point, and his ego is too big to admit it. He and Herrera just try to blame everyone else for their own ineptitude.
Uh oh — now I’ll be banned from the building….

Here is something to consider. The Chargers are having all kinds of trouble selling out games, including this Monday night’s game versus the rival Broncos. Yet, the Chargers home game against the Eagles has been sold out since before the season and the re-sellers and scalpers are making a mint. (I paid out the you-know-what for my tix to that game). Yet, the Eagles could not help sell out this game against the Raiders. You know why? Raiders’ fans are total scum. Very few Eagles’ fans want to deal with their nonsense, which will certainly get out of hand once the Eagles have put the game away. (I estimate that to take place sometime on or before 2:25 PT). The Raiders can’t sell out because even the local Oakland people know that going to that hell hole just isn’t worth the trouble.
They should move back to L.A. For me, there is little difference between any of the California cities, yet I am going to San Diego to see the Eagles, yet never even considered going to Oakland. If this game was in L.A., I’d be there in a heartbeat. The Raiders’ problems on and off the field are of their own making, starting with Al Davis and right down to their scummy, lowlife fans.

    Completely agree with nasheagles -
Out of the 20 ‘targets’ for Heyward-Bey, I was wondering how many were actually catchable, how many were into double coverage, and how many bounced before they got there?
It’s hard to label a WR a bust on the Raiders.
Frankly, I’d imagine a bunch of teams would love Heyward-Bey…or Louis Murphy…or Johnnie Lee Higgins.
The Eagles are going to have a field day this weekend. This is going to be ugly…and Bruce Gradkowski should be given a shot.

  9. Bob S. says: Oct 15, 2009 6:00 PM

What difference does it make? No one in Oakland would watch it anyway.

  12. IWanttoPunchFloriointheFace says: Oct 15, 2009 6:07 PM

Nice Evan – you sound just like a little Flowerio. Obviously this is no surprise and I hope RaiderNation stays far away and the remainder of the home games are blacked out. Just maybe that will bring Al out of his 30+ year old coma and hire a frickin’ GM.

  13. masterblaster78 says: Oct 15, 2009 6:12 PM

Russell couldn’t hit the earth if he fell off a chair. It’s not all the receivers fault if the ball isn’t catchable. Wide open receivers and he misses them by a mile. His throws are so bad even the defense can’t catch them………..I bleed Silver & Black, but Russell QB’ing really is the pits…..

Going to a Raider game is like going to just about any other stadium. Don’t be a fool about your team, be cool about the home team and you’ll be fine. Also funny than an Eagles fan would talk about Raiders fans being scum.
    Ho-Ho-Ho!!!!

  19. JoeSchmoe says: Oct 15, 2009 6:34 PM

I’m not sure what exactly happens when there’s a black out – ya know… since I live in DENVER and this is NEVER AN ISSUE.
Hopefully they just air another league game instead… then the Bay Area contingency will at least get to see some real professional football.

Jamarcus Russell is beyond a bust, and the entire organization is a joke. I was a season ticket holder, but I refuse to pay for crap. The entire team has quit because even Stevie Wonder can see that Jamarcus Russell is the major problem, and unless he’s removed as a player on the Raiders why would I bust my ass, and I know we have no chance of winning with that lazy unintelligent bum, and this is from a former Raider diehard fan..

DJSlyBri – you’re a frickin’ douchebag, Raider fans are not scum but you certainly are. You’ve never been to a game in Oakland so you should shut your pie-hole…how in the hell would you know what a game is like in the Coliseum if you’ve never been there.
We all know about Eagle fans and what jerks they are in their stadium – so until you have actually attended a game in Oakland, then just shut up – I’m so glad you paid out of your ass for Eagle tickets, because of you I’ll be rooting for the Chargers.

I really feel bad for the Oakland fans. I am a die-hard Broncos fan and there’s nothing I relish more than seeing Oakland San Diego suck it hard. But Oakland has gone so far off that it is sad. By the way, Denver has sold out every home game since 1970. BEST FANS EVER!

Al Davis owns the team Period. If he goes his son, Al Davis jr takes over.
Davis Sr is not going anywhere.
Davis wanted a new Stadium in L.A. and he is going to get it.
The Raiders will be playing in a first class venue in L.A.
This team is being run into the ground for a reason.
Al Davis is much much smarter than you think.
Oakland Virus Coliseum is just a temporary stepping stone, until L.A. opens up—and it has.

  35. mackc78 says: Oct 15, 2009 9:08 PM

All Nfl fans are bad. I have been a Raider season ticket holder and know how the games at the Coliseum are and they arent that bad. I was at a monday night game in Seattle in 06 and the seahawk fans were pooring beer on a married couple because they had raider gear on. Then the guards threw the raiders fans out. Eagles fans are worse.

  36. Junior says: Oct 15, 2009 9:21 PM

DJSlyBri, an Eagirls fan calling Raider fans scum?? Seriously? That’s funny, go boo Santa.
Even more funny is the people who visit this site and alway talk about how insignificant the Raiders are and nobody cares. Why are all Raider posts typically the most commented on? Even when they suck you people can’t stay away. If you want the Raiders to be insignificant quit following every article about them posted on the web. Because you know you do it on other sites also.

  37. cowboys1 says: Oct 15, 2009 9:34 PM

Chokeland should be suspended for the rest of the season, the whole organization, so they can get their crap together and try to put out a decent team next year. Horrible QB, and an even worse coach, he looks like he should be a repo man.

  38. murfdeezy says: Oct 15, 2009 10:13 PM

I have been a die hard Raider fan my whole life. I never lived or been to a game in Oakland. I still bleed silver and black. To call any other team’s fans in the NFL scum, or responsible for their teams woes, actually proves that you are scum…and a moron. Don’t you idiots in Philly boo the quarterback that bought you to 4 championship games. Wow, what epic loyalty. I guess we should be more like you. Al was great, but even if he wants a stadium in LA, why would they purchase such a terrible product? The real problem is not Russell. The problem is that no real coach wants to come to a place where he is held accountable for everything that goes wrong, yet is hired after the owner chooses all of his assistants for him ( none of them a day under 60 ), and it is clear that he will have no actual decision making ability or control ever. It is just a bonus to be undermined by the owner every time a player gives you a bunch of crap! Until we can operate in a manner that is remotely professional, we will never have a coaching staff, or any real players that we don’t have to vastly overpay for. I agree to support the blackout. It is unfortunate, but It is clear that the fans have to express their unwillingness to support such embarrassing behavior from the owner, and right on down the line. Hang in there guys.

I’m about to unload the problem djgaybri has had for about the last twenty or so years. He has just not been able to get the taste of Philly Turkeys getting lambasted by the Raiders of old in the Superbowl. Yeah that was a long time ago, but think about it, what’s worse that it has been that long, or that in aaaaallllllllll that time the Eagles have never won a Super Bowl. Matter of fact, you can look as far back as the Super Bowl was played and still not find one for them. Oh, also his team sign Mike Vick, and he’s calling others scum. That’s laughable.

  46. jb10 says: Oct 16, 2009 10:29 AM

the raiders do suck. that coming from a die hard raiders fan. there is no doubt about that. but as posted before come up with something original.
all raiders fans are degenerate thugs. i guess you didn’t know that tom hanks, magic johnson, james garner and several other well respected celebrities are and have been raiders fans for years.
as for the broncos fans talking about having a sell out since the 70s? sure they may sell the tickets to every game. but if you have ever been to a game there you know that those tickets are not all used. in the old mile high sure. but since the broncos screwed long time ticket holders by giving them worst seats in the house in order to sell the lower level seats to corporations there are plenty of empty seats on game day. i live in denver and have been to several games there i know they are empty!
at this point in time the league cannot do anything about the state of this team. especially goodell he does not have that power or authority.
boycotting games will not hurt al davis that much, there is something called revenue sharing in the nfl.
