Ellis calls Raiders "laughingstock of league"

The Raiders are getting it from all sides this week.  Including the inside.

In the same week that Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce said playing against the Raiders “felt like a scrimmage,” Raiders defensive end Greg Ellis spoke about Oakland’s place in the NFL.

“The mood we’re going to be in or should be in, right now we’re kind of
the laughingstock of the NFL,” Ellis said Thursday.

The Raiders are using Pierce’s words as motivation this week, posting his comments outside the locker room door and inside the locker room.  Raiders coach Tom Cable addressed the issue of fighting back in a long post-practice meeting Wednesday.

“This isn’t
anything new. Teams have been that way before,” Ellis said.  “New England wasn’t
always winning Super Bowls and Dallas wasn’t always the team they are.
So, it goes in cycles. When you’re in that down cycle, you got to fight
and claw to get back out of it and that’s what we’re doing here right
now in Oakland.”

Couldn’t have said it better, Greg. Your team is a pathetic excuse of an organization. That said, the City of Denver loves kicking your ass. Keep it up, losers.

Hey atleast someone on the Raiders knows what direction they’re going (unlike old man Al Davis)…The team hasn’t had a good draft or signed anybody worth signing over the past few years…clear example of that is signing Deangelo Hall for 7 years and dishing him off after 1 and drafting Jamarcus, who wasn’t even the best QB on LSU (Matt Flynn was better) because Jamarcus played a good final game. This organization will NEVER right the ship as long as Al Davis is there.

Sure it’s a cycle, but it’s the longest damn cycle in the history of the NFL.
Here’s a poll – which one of these will happen against the Eagles?
    A) JaBustus throws for more than 100 yards.
    B) The offense totals more than 200 yards.
    C) The Raiders will have 3+ turnovers.
    D) The Eagles will have 4+ sacks.
    E) None of the above.
    F) All of the above.

My first thought was how nice Ellis was being. “Kind of”? We are.
That being said, Ellis openly saying that is an encouraging sign. So are Pierce’s comments being stuck up. If this doesn’t fire up their pride, nothing will.
Did anyone else see the report that McNabb is going to seek out Russell before the game and talk to him a bit? How sad is it that other teams are taking pity on the Raiders and trying to offer free helpful advice?
Rock bottom though was the news that the Raiders special teams was breaking the huddle with the chant “1, 2, 3, GET BETTER!”
You can’t make this stuff up. I thought 2006 was rock bottom. I was wrong.

The ’09 version of the Oakland Raiders are like the monkey cage exhibit when you go to visit the zoo.
In one corner is a lone monkey spankin’ it while demanding eye contact from all the people staring into the cage. In the other corner are a couple of monkeys slap fighting each other, up in the tree are two monkeys having sex at a million MPH, while two other monkeys are picking nits off each other and eating them while waiting their trun. Then there’s the monkey in the back corner, flinging poo every where possible. And way up in the upper reaches of the tree is the old dominate monkey fast asleep and oblivious of the mess that’s going on under him.

  17. east96street says: Oct 16, 2009 11:28 AM

Since they are “fired up”, I’ll say the score will be 56-10 Philly. Before, I was predicting 56-3. I hate the Eagles, but Oakland has NO chance with that POS at QB. NY stripped him of the ball when they came from HIS side. It’s one thing if a defender comes from your blind side, but when the guy comes from right in front of you THREE TIMES? That’s just pathetic. He’s making Ryan Leaf look like a HOFer.

Al Davis is the problem. Period. He was once a great man of football and credit should be given to him for his heritage, but the the game has changed. You can not win anymore with just a big arm QB and a fast wideout. He needs to let go and get some fresh minds in there. Last time they had an success was with Grudin, who was able to get a little control over the team. But of course Davis new better and let him go and it has been the Titanic of the league since.

There was no young QB worse than Troy in Dallas early on. I think he threw 18 or so picks one year and he had a line and wide receivers.
Russell came out as a JR, and has just turned 24. He almost never took the ball from under center in College and worked out of the shotgun.
Most scouts knew that even with his talent that he would be a project 1st round pick or not. The kid does make some throws that no other QB in the NFL could make.
He plays with 2 rookie wide receivers and a line that does not give him much time, He has been bad but hey I hit one or two bad drives on the golf course and if I do not let it go the rest of my game makes it look like I have never been on a golf course in my life.
Will Russell be a bust?, who knows but it is way to early for that. A QB needs at least 30 to 35 starts before you can really get a handle on them one way or the other. The kid completed 68% of his passes last year in College and 67% of his passes over the last 7 games of last year so the kid can make the throws.
If he has what is needed with work ethic and want to and is strong of mind to climb out of this slump time will only tell. But this kid could be a great if he really wants it bad enough and does the work to get there.

Q: What do you call 47 millionaires around a TV watching the Super Bowl?
    A: The Cleveland Browns.
Q: What do the Cleveland Browns and Billy Graham have in common?
A: They both can make 70,000 people stand up and yell “Jesus Christ”.
Q: How do you keep a Cleveland Browns out of your yard?
    A: Put up goal posts.
Q: Where do you go in Cleveland in case of a tornado?
A: To The Browns Stadium – they never get a touchdown there!
Q: What do you call a Cleveland Brown with a Super Bowl ring?
    A: A thief.
Q: Why doesn’t Canton have a professional football team? A: Because then Cleveland would want one.
Q: What’s the difference between the Cleveland Browns and a dollar bill?
A: You can still get four quarters out of a dollar bill.
Q: How many Cleveland Browns does it take to win a Super Bowl?
A: Nobody knows and we may never find out!
Q: What do the Cleveland Browns and possums have in common?
A: Both play dead at home and get killed on the road!

More than one time, really. Most teams have had longer droughts, and you don’t have to go very far back to find your Giants’ stretch of 17 years of not even making the playoffs from 1964-1980, and 22 years of no playoff wins from 1959-1980.

VoxVeritas says: “22 years of no playoff wins from 1959-1980.”
Given that the current playoff system didn’t exist for a nice chunk of that time, that’s an absolutely asinine comparison to make. For years the championship game was the ONE and ONLY playoff game. It wasn’t until the late 60s that Conference Championship Games were played in the NFL. Big difference between two teams making the playoffs from the ENTIRE NFL and six teams making it from each Conference. Interesting how you ignore that distinction. Yes, the Giants had some miserable years in the 70s. Going back almost forty years. Were you even born then you little troll? Let’s focus on the last decade, since that’s A LOT more relevant to the games that are being played now. What has Dallas done in the span of the last ten years? NOTHING! If the best you can do is go that far back into the past, that’s just sad and pathetic. Using your logic we should classify Dallas today as a racist hellhole because of how minorities were treated in the 60s and 70s. Or bar any public figure from ever visiting Dallas since you folks are known for killing a President. You go back far enough, you sure can dig stuff up. The question is, is it relevant to today? Obviously, no. Keep reaching, Vox. It won’t cover up the fact that your Boys haven’t won a playoff game in over 14 years and struggled to stop that offensive juggernaut known as the KC Chiefs. Now, run back to your myspace page and let everyone know what your “mood” is today.

It is truly unfortunate when the hardest hitter on your team is the Head Coach. Al Davis has taken a once proud, winning organization and slowly turned it into the “laughing stock of the NFL”. And as long as old Al is still there is will remain that way. He can’t get a decent HC because no one wants to work for him and his draft choices, well just look at this years #1. Nuff said.

It would be stupid to bench Jamarcus Russell now. The season is over.
What they need to do is fire the offensive coordinator and/or QB coach. The reason why is due to the fact the Russell is not progressing. And in essence, you tell JaMarcus Russell that they were fired because of his poor playing. Put their fates right upon his shoulders.
But you play him for the rest of the season… regardless as to his effectiveness. And at the end of the season, if he still plays terribly, release him and take your financial losses. Then you fire Tom Cable and get a whole new regime: new coaching squad, new QB, etc.

Thank you. I was going to mention to the Raiders to enjoy the beautiful view they have in Oakland. At least if they are the laughingstock of the league, the view is nice. Now Cleveland, on the other hand, has to look at a brown lake (at least it wasn’t blue the last time I saw Erie)-is that the inspiration for Cleveland’s team name? Anywho, Raiders, don’t get too comfortable with the laughingstock monkier-Cleveland has laid claim to that since Modell fired Saint Paul.

“Let’s focus on the last decade”
Why? The NFL didn’t start up in 2000. Why not go back to 1992? How about 1960, since the Cowboys and Giants have both existed since then?

Talk all you want about your special little 5-0 record…it don’t matter until the month of February and you’re sipping drinks in South Beach. I’m sure you don’t know where that is, so ask someone you know outside of Denver what I’m talking about. If they keep winning, fine – then you have reason to talk…until then, shut the hell up.
It’s not exactly rocket science to figure out the Raiders aren’t making the playoffs, and it ain’t exactly rocket science to figure out that the Donkeys can finish 8-8 (again) and be sitting on the couch next to RaiderNation watching the playoffs (again).
So to sum it up and make it as simple as Denver fans can understand – your record don’t mean shit until you’re buying tickets in February…until then, go pound sand (literally).

Where was this clown before the season started? The only Donkey fans posting over the summer were the ones claiming their new coach was one-and-done and their team would be lucky to win 3 games this year. You fair-weather Denver fans can suck it.

    @ Vox
“And while we’re at it, maybe the cesspool called NYC should be shut down since you idiots killed 3,000 innocent men, women and children that weren’t doing anything more political or controversial than living their lives. Now be extra careful that you don’t shoot yourself while you’re trying to shoot back at me, Cheddar Bob, because we know that you fools can’t handle firearms.”
Wow. Have we really gotten to the point where on a sports “smack talk” website someone actually makes a comment like this? 9/11 should not be brought up at all on these pages.
As far as NY being a cesspool goes, apparently you’ve never been. NY is one of the coolest places in the world. There’s no place like it, and this is coming from a Philly boy.
    Go Birds, Dallas Sucks!

    WR-Schelins…..good but average.
    WR-Murphy…..Ok, but over rated.
    TE-Miller….Can catch, can’t block.
    Asomugha…….Over rated the most…he’s garbage
    CB-Johnson…….Getting burned all day
Come on you guys, these are the facts. We have maybe 3 good players out of 53.
Dude, you are a moron. Good but average? What does that mean? Ok, but over rated? By who? Asomugha is garbage? Seriously? I can think of 31 teams that would love to have that trash can on their roster. You are clueless.

Can’t wait ’til they start winning again so all you losers can go back to whining about the Raiders being “cheaters”
