Ex-Ram Cullen Bryant dies

Former Rams fullback Cullen Bryant died Tuesday at the age of 58. At 6-foot-1, 234-pounds, Bryant was one of the NFL's bigger running backs during a 13-year NFL career.

Bryant spent 11 years with the Rams and two with the Seahawks. He had a big role for the Rams in Super Bowl XIV, carrying six times for 30 yards and a 1-yard score and catching three passes for another 21 yards in what was a surprisingly entertaining battle with the Steelers.

His best season was 1980 when he had career highs in carries, yards and receptions.

Sad to see the guys I grew up watching dying, and dying young.

He was part of a very good Rams team that could never seem to get past my Vikings in the playoffs.

Him and Mccutcheon formed a pretty good backfield back in the day.

    R.I.P Cullen

I may be too young to fully appreciate who he was or follow his career, but 58 is far too young as well.

This saddens me. He was an athlete of my youth. He wasn't a star, but in today's ESPN Age, he would have been. He was an absolute load.

    vikings OR cowboys

the mccutcheon years - the rams were easily the best team in what was usually a lousy division.

meaning they werent often that good.

that affected the vikings as well.

    RIP.

I only remember the tail end of his career, with the Seahawks. Still, 58 is way too young.

    First Cap't Lou, now this.

The 80's is fast becoming to me what the 50's were to my parents. Nostalgia.

I used to really like those old L.A. Rams teams. Lawrence McCutcheon, Cullen Bryant, Billy Waddy, etc. They were a good team and fun to watch. Seeing those old uniforms last week in St. Louis was great. The current Rams should go back to those. They look way better and remind people of the times when the Rams were a respected playoff type of team instead of this current quagmire of ineptitude. Good luck with that one, Spags.

That '79 Rams team that lead the Steelers for three quarters in the Super Bowl before losing was one of my favorite teams of all time. Bryant was a huge part of their success and opened holes for Wendell Tyler all season long. Solid blocking fullback.

    R.I.P.

It good see all these fans make comments and remember Cullen.

Cullen was my God-Father, though I haven't seen him in a long time... he was a person and terrific ball player. My grandfather, Ralph Goldston scouted him... Chickenfoot, Blastfurniss, thebootguy, - one thing you guys don't know is the toll exacted on the brain from all those hits.

Cullen is not alone in the gone to soon category. Atwater, Webster, and many more are suffering. Jerome Bettis moves around like a 70 year old man. Its a hard and violent sport... those guys deserve every dime for the risk they put forward.

Thank you again for remebering Cullen - he wasn't a fastsy first rounder but, he was the epitome of what is right about football.'
