NFL fines Friday roundup

Every Friday, a number of NFL players find out they owe the league money.

Folks seem interested in this information, but each fine isn’t worthy of its own post, so here’s a handy roundup for those of you who like to see rich men get a little less rich.

Three Patriots found letters in their lockers from the league office this week, according to ESPNBoston.com’s Mike Reiss.  Guard Logan Mankins was fined $5,000 for unnecessary roughness against the Broncos. Safety Brandon Meriweather was fined 7,500 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Ty Warren was fined 5,000 for roughing the passer.

Vikings defensive tackle Kevin Williams was fined $7,500 for an illegal blow to the head of Rams quarterback Kyle Boller.  Williams’ teammate, Artis Hicks, drew a $5,000 fine for pushing Rams defensive
tackle Gary Gibson. In the same game, Rams cornerback Quincy Butler is now $7,500 lighter because of a horse-collar tackle

And a second Tennessee Titan, Jacob Ford, was fined $5,000 for hitting Peyton Manning.  PFT previously mentioned that Kyle Vanden Bosch was also fined for hitting Manning.

In related news, Florio has informed me of $15 fine for my crack about his hair earlier.

No flozel fines? Wow…put this in the books!

  2. Poo Flinging Monkey says: Oct 16, 2009 5:20 PM

Flozell’s fines are direct-debited, so it’s not really worth noting.

  3. ThePragmatist says: Oct 16, 2009 5:21 PM

Is it just me, or is it a recent occurrence that any personal foul comes with a fine? I can understand fining repeat offenders (Roy Williams horsecollar), but fining on every questionable hit seems a bit much…

  4. Doohickey says: Oct 16, 2009 5:25 PM

The NFL is quickly becoming a joke, and idiotic fines are part of the reason why.

  5. teke184 says: Oct 16, 2009 5:28 PM

At this point, I think that the NFL has automatic drafting set up with the Cowboys to pull back $5K from Flozell after each game for tripping. They may just be skipping the formal letter at this point.

we’ll all pitch in to help with the “hair” fine :-)

In related news, multiple players across the league were fined for breathing too hard on Tom Brady.

    P. Manning needs a skirt like Brady too???

  9. Sportnman says: Oct 16, 2009 5:48 PM

Okay, maybe we should just put the flags on and call it intermurals again!

Your anti-Cowboy bias shines again…I love how you leave out these two 15 yard penalties that were no calls in the game.
Kansas City safety Jon McGraw was fined $5,000 for a helmet hit on Tony Romo. McGraw hit Romo in the second quarter after a throw to Sam Hurd.
Demarrio Williams was fined $7,500 for a horse collar tackle tackle of wide receiver Miles Austin.

I wonder how much 6’7″, 350 pound Stacey Andrews will be fined for punching a 5’2″, 115 pound woman in the face?

  12. BengalsDouche2 says: Oct 16, 2009 6:02 PM

No fine for ray ray on his hit to ocho? What a joke.

  13. VoxVeritas says: Oct 16, 2009 6:08 PM

ninjaneer I think we can forget about balanced reporting on PFT when it comes to the Cowboys. It’s never happened, doubt it will ever happen. Still waiting on Florio and co. to talk about the federal report into the investigation of the collapse of the Cowboys practice facility that says that multiple design flaws were the cause of the collapse. That story’s a few weeks old. How very NBC of them to completely ignore the report.

Flozell wasn’t fined because he actually didn’t trip anyone last game. he also didn’t tackle anyone or do much of anything. Apparently not being able to trip blows his whole game plan.

  15. jshawaii says: Oct 16, 2009 6:25 PM

BD, RayRay got his own page on PFT… 25k for the hit on OCCinco and a top billing on YouTube, too.

    @BengalsDouche2 …
Lewis was fined $25,000 for that hit. PFT reported that yesterday or the day before. How’d you miss that big headline?

$15 fine for conduct detrimental to Florio’s esteem?

    Rosenthal, appeal it!

This is nothing more than the sofnification or sissification of the NFL game before it goes global. They are slowly trying to change the game so smaller athletes (from Asia, Europe, Mexico) can fairly compete in American NFL football without getting creamed.
Notice how these fines have increased over time (number of fines and amount for each). It won’t be long before defenders get the message and the game will morph into something unrecognizable.
At some point, the QB will be untouchable with a time limit on how long he can hold on to the football to balance things off. Just wait.

NFL missed the biggest cheap shot of the week.
F’n Hog Farmer Olshansky err Oshansky (not really important) for that heard of cattle in dallas, should be suspended for the cheap shot he took at B Alberts leg.
Rosenthal, earn the remaing $5.00 of your weekly pay by finding some video of Olshansky lunging into Albert’s leg and post it with commentary.

If ever i saw a taco bell drive thru manager…..it’d be you…..What’s up with the lonely and magic and gathering crap?..Dude…..my 16 year old , last one left in the house could kick your ass….Is that really you? “Flozell wasn’t fined because he actually didn’t trip anyone last game. he also didn’t tackle anyone or do much of anything. Apparently not being able to trip blows his whole game plan.”
Offensive tackles aren’t supposed to tackle anybody. They’re supposed to block, and he did pretty good in that regard. Good enough to skunk his man yet again and allow two undrafted guys to break a pretty long-standing Cowboys record.

  24. Xenu_D_Alien says: Oct 16, 2009 7:53 PM

Gregg, Florio should be pissed at you! If it comes out that he’s bald, he stands to lose out on that lucrative Flowbee endorsement. Seriously, he doesn’t really want his hair to look like a mushroom with a part in it, does he?

1 – It’s “herd”. Unless you’re talking about Sam Hurd.
    2 – Why would a defensive end dive at a guard’s leg?
Is this the play you’re talking about?

Cutler IS A Puss, I am now ready to graciously accept your apology for insulting me after I suggested that Hicks’ shove from behind was a cheap shot and deserving of a fine. Man up, son.
