Stafford, Calvin Johnson absent on Friday

It’s looking like the Packers will face Detroit’s “B Team” on Sunday.  (Cue the second bye week in a row jokes.)

Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford were both absent from the beginning portion of practice Friday, making it highly unlikely that either player will suit up against the Packers.

Johnson hasn’t practiced all week since hurting his knee last Sunday against the Steelers.  Stafford raised hopes on Wednesday by practicing, but hasn’t been seen since.  They are expected to be listed as doubtful later Friday.

The Lions will start Daunte Culpepper at quarterback for its last game before a Week Seven bye, while Bryant Johnson and Dennis Northcutt will pick up the slack at receiver.

Despite some improved play from Jim Schwartz’s team overall, the Lions are likely to be 1-5 heading into the break and have given up the most points in the league.  This season in Detroit will ultimately be defined by Stafford’s development, not wins.

That makes the last two weeks with Stafford on the sidelines feel like a waste.

Think the Lions has a chance?
The answer my friend, is blowin’ in the wind, the answer is blowin’ in the wind.

Why no Derrick Williams? Let the kid play!

I thought that every team 0nly gets 1 bye week . (that work?)
The Lions offense will only be at 75% this week ? Even The Pack’s D will look good this week fantasy geeks.

    “Detroit Lions had our numbers.”

The Lions can pull this one off. It won’t be a blowout like all the Pack fans anticipate. The Lions 4 losses are all to teams better than the pack and haven’t gotten blown out yet. losses to a 4-0 Saints team, a 5-0 Vikings team, a 3-1 Bears team and the Defending champs. Pack will win but it will be a tight one. 31-27.

Too bad, Stafford has some real talent. The knee injury, combined with Johnson’s ‘injury’ will set them back several weeks, probably more. Once Stafford gets a few more healthy games under his belt, the Lions could steal a couple wins.

It’s only a waste for Stafford if he doesn’t pay attention to the game. This is a great opportunity for him to see things from the outside perspective after getting thrown into the fire. Many athletes have credited injuries early in their career to helping them see things on the field that they wouldn’t have otherwise and adjusting accordingly when they come back..

Yea, it might seem like a waste with Stafford out, but while the franchise QB is the heart and soul of this squads future, don’t forget about the development of the other half dozen rookies the Lions are starting. I think you could make a case that getting improvement from Sammie Hill, Louis Delmas and Deandre Levy is an important as anything.
On the other side, Derrick Williams needs to not be a turd and Brandon Pettigrew is looking sweeter each week.
But even without our ‘studs’ the Packers are a lame enough franchise right now that they might do something stupid and forget to show up. If that happens I don’t know that anybody will be able to contain the showstopping abilities of the great Dennis Northcutt. Yes, that just happened.

This is a toss up game if the packers haven’t got there Pass blocking figured out yet. Still working on technique in week 6 of the season…too funny.
I really hope the pack goes to sleep on the Lions the way they did the Rams, they will pay if they do.
I got the lions by 6 points.

If the Packers look past this game it will be the demise of their season. They’ve got to blow out Detroit/Cleveland and at least show up against MN to have anything other than a mediocre season at best.
It’s too bad about Stafford’s injuries but personally I think the outcome of last week’s game would have been a lot different without Culpepper playing. I don’t think it would have been anywhere near as close. Culpeppers a vet and has seen these teams (especially the Packers) before. As a Packer fan I am more concerned that he’s behind center.
Even though both teams are very familiar with each other each team is bringing new looks. Lions with a team actually capable of winning and the Pack with their new (albeit a work that is very much still in progress) defense.
If GB let’s Detroit hang around all game like Pittsburgh did last week that could very well play into Detroit’s favor and pretty much shows the mediocrity of this years version of the Packers.
    GO PACK

    48-24 loss to the bears?
gladly giving the points here. thinking 3 TDs minimum will separate these teams.
chauncey pullpecker sucks. 38-39 with moss. 5-23 without moss.
even jo-ey is better than 5-23 in that span. much better.

I’d laff my A$$ off if Green Bay lost this one. That would almost rank right up there with losing to Favre and the Vikings.

The Packers have been getting absolutely blasted in the media for how poor they have played this season (deservedly so), especially the past 2 weeks since that Monday night disaster. Therefore I would be shocked if they come out half-asleep against an improved Lions team. I think the Pack wins this one 30-17.
ps- I love how fans of other teams in the division act like the Packers are at the same level as the Rams, Browns, Raiders, Bills now because they’ve lost 2 games to teams that have lost a combined 1.

I wish they’d hurry up and list Calvin Johnson as “doubtful” so I can put him on injured reserve and pick up someone else.

  16. Chickenfoot says: Oct 16, 2009 3:33 PM

    James:
They also had trouble with a winless Rams team and didn’t put them away til well into the 4th quarter…….
Getting 4 ints from Cutler and going to a nailbiter at the end……
Yeah, they sure are rock solid.
I was hearing the same BS last year, we had 7 losses by 7 points or less…they are still losses.
The Pack will be lucky to be 8-8 this year.
Slip: Pack by 21? Are you sniffing glue?
They are in for a dogfight….Lions by 6

Chickenfoot – notice how you never see me on the Vikings stories trying to stir up Vikings fans? I’m on here to read stories that have anything to do with my favorite team – I reside in Cali but originally from WI. The Packers play the Lions this week so I commented on a Lions story. Where have I ever said the Packers are a Super Bowl or even playoff quality team? Its my opinion that they will win 3 out of the next 4 games – including this week. Thats my opinion – they are an average team this season yes, but far from the disaster that you want to believe they are. Good luck to your team sir – and pick on Packers fans who rip & diss your team.

Although, I can if you want me to.
    Thin skinned much?
footballrulz: No, I bet YOUR house on it…..;)
