T.J. wants the ball

For years, T.J. Houshmandzadeh was seen sometimes and heard rarely as the “other” wideout in the starting lineup of the Cincinnati Bengals.  He was perhaps best known as the subject of the “Whosyourmama” commercial for NFL.com’s fantasy football.

Beyond that, there wasn’t much said by or about T.J.

And we’re realizing how much we liked it that way.

Since becoming a free agent and signing with the Seahawks, Houshmandzadeh has become chatty.  (Put his name in the search box for his history of comments.)

Most recently, Houshmandzadeh has complained about the extent to which he’s getting the ball.  Or, as the case may be, not getting the ball.

I just got to get these coaches to realize, throw me the ball,”
Houshmandzadeh said Friday, according to the Associated Press.

“Maybe I’ve said it too much,” he said.  “I just got to show them now.”

Or how about this?  Shut up and do your job.

Apart from the fact that they’re not throwing him the ball as much as he’d like, Houshmandzadeh has suggested that he hasn’t been healthy.

“If I was watching myself and I had to cover me, I’d say, ‘I can
cover this guy.’ I didn’t like the way I looked,” he said.  “I’m feeling
pretty good now.  I haven’t felt like this since probably the opening of
training camp. I’ve had some problems here and there you all don’t know
about, and I’m just starting to feel better.”

We’ve got two comments on that point.

First, if we didn’t know better, we’d wonder whether the Seahawks might be fudging the injury report.  (But we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, since no NFL team ever fudges the injury report.  Except the Jets.  And, well, most of the rest of them.)

Second, the T.J. Houshmandzadeh who’s claiming that he hasn’t been able to get open for most of the year due to injury is the same guy who said before Week Three against the Bears, “I feel like I’m going to get open every play, every time.  But that’s not going to be the case.  Those
guys get paid well.  I feel I’m going to win regardless, but I have
to be realistic.  I feel I’m going to win 95 percent of the time and
they can get the other 5.”

So here’s a suggestion for Houshmandzadeh:  Shut up and do your job.

Oops, we’re repeating ourselves.  That’s almost as annoying as a football player who constantly whines and makes excuses.

Postgame: “i was open all game they just didn’t give me the ball, i need the ball”
    Truth: Yeah Right. Douchebag.

He talked a lot before the Bear game, then went out and totally sucked. Had a turnover that led to a TD, and was a big help in the win. I love the guy. I wish he played for the Bears opponent every week.

  3. PervyHarvin says: Oct 16, 2009 8:51 PM

Right on Florio. He sounds like a head case. I am thankful everyday that he passed up on the Vikings,he is over rated and we would have over spent on his pathetic self. Even though I wanted him then,so glad how it unfolded and we took Harvin. Do you lay in bed Whosyomomma and hate yourself for blowing off a 5-0 team which got Favre as qb?? Bet so. Good for you slacker! Can’t wait until Winfield lights you up and we crush your team later in the season.

  4. ncm42 says: Oct 16, 2009 8:51 PM

Maybe he’s just overrated, and he is not the type of receiver who can make an average QB better. Maybe he sucked without Matt H, and now that Matt H is back, he’s making TJ better…

Tune up the “Florio Hates the Seahawks” band…
    Losers!

It would be terrible for the Seahawks if he shut up. Are you kidding? Housh is the first person to show up with a pulse and be so freakin’ excited in a long long time (probably the first since Hass when he made his infamous quote in overtime at GB) and the fans are LOVING it!! And as far as his production, this guy has looked awesome so far this season. I know you never actually watch Seahawks games, but so far this season, Burleson and Housh have been dominant in the pass game (Housh is looking WAY better than Fitzgerald so far). Housh kinda disappeared for a few games, but that can be blamed on Seneca Wallace at QB, who was really making some poor passes the 3 games he started (and he really wasn’t throwing to TJ much at all, because he’s too short to see over the O-Line).
Simple fact is, Housh right now is the best receiver the Seahawks have had since Steve Largent retired. The guy comes up with big plays when we need them and has totally re-energized our offense. This dude has become a serious fan favorite, the 12th Man is LOVING Housh!!! I still can’t believe any team would let this guy walk. If he doesn’t make the Pro-Bowl, it will be because of Seneca’s poor performance, and that is a shame. I’ll tell ya one thing, he’s been 20 times the receiver that “Ocho Cinco” has been. And I love the fact that he’s flying under the radar, even though he has been talking smack.
HOUSH, DON’T YOU DARE SHUT UP!! Seahawks fans are LOVING your attitude, we need more of that. Please keep it up and please also keep dominating every week like you have been so far. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOUSH!!!!!!

  7. leatherneck says: Oct 16, 2009 9:08 PM

Because Housh said that I’m changing my pick to the Seahawks.

  8. Laxer37 says: Oct 16, 2009 9:11 PM

    You talking about Peerless Houshmanzadah?
Here in Cincinnati I’ve been screaming this for years, but everyone was too busy being in love with the guy to take an objective look. He has always been a “me first” cry baby. When things were going good he wanted more than his share of the credit and when things were going bad he ALWAYS had a list of excuses at the ready. He openly campaigned for the pro bowl every year and threw a hissy fit when he was over-looked. My favorite line of his after every loss was “we have such better players than they have”. Totally unprofessional, I remember every single time he was scheduled for a radio interview he would show up late or sometimes blow it off altogether.
Bottom line he’s not the same without a stud opposite him doing all the work by drawing the double coverage.
Way to do your homework Seattle.

  9. Dave The Dude says: Oct 16, 2009 9:12 PM

You Bears and Vikes fans are idiots, but what should I expect? I’ve attended games in both cities, and was not surprised to see half the crowd leaving in the 3rd quarter. What a joke. Have any of you actually bothered to watch any Seahawks games other than the Bears game this season? Housh has been a dominant WR, probably the best WR in the NFC West so far this season. He didn’t get thrown to against the Bears because our QB (Wallace) is a 5′ 10″ running back and we don’t give him long pass plays. When he does throw long, he is quite inaccurate and very likely to give up INTs.
And I’m just busting a gut at this idiot Vikings fan, saying he’s glad they didn’t get Housh. Hey dumbass, you never had a chance at him, remember? He had already agreed to sign with Seattle and openly said to the media that he picked Seattle ‘cuz he didn’t think the Vikes were a championship-type organization. Enjoy your hot streak, because Favre will start playing like Favre again soon, and the Vikes are going to disappear completely. Good luck with that, though. Ha ha ha.

  10. hitdog042 says: Oct 16, 2009 9:21 PM

Housh complaining? And you all thought it was just the Bengals. Looks like he really didn’t change his stripes.

  11. FumbleNuts says: Oct 16, 2009 9:22 PM

If you’re as good as you THINK you are, let’s see what you can do against the Cards on Sunday.
I still believe Deon Butler can get open faster then you can. Too bad he hasn’t had a chance to prove it yet.

Florio, I’m not even a Seahawks Fan but your TJ Rants are getting pretty sad. I suppose this is slightly better than the time he got asked “Did the Bears contact you in Free Agency” and when he answered you made a story out of it like he was going off unsolicted. Then every Half Wit Bears fan jumped on it like they were disrespected. Bears Fans you are cattle, and Florio is your Farmer.

  14. PervyHarvin says: Oct 16, 2009 9:53 PM

Dave The Dick- Get it right dumbass .TJ didnt want to play here because TJ was our QB. But we Got Favre and I know Your TJ wishes he was here now. So Hush can keep rain town, enjoy Starbucks and fresh halibut and your pathetic qb. Like I said, can’t wait to crush you. I’ll be lookin for you on here!!

  15. mwcarolina says: Oct 16, 2009 9:57 PM

in order to catch the ball, get open, jeez, why is he acting up? didnt they win?

  16. Majik Man says: Oct 16, 2009 9:59 PM

27 catches, 325 yards, 2 TD’s, 1 fumble over 5 games. Not bad numbers, but definitely not no. 1 receiver numbers, and not even close to his Pro Bowl promises.

  17. pdway1 says: Oct 16, 2009 10:20 PM

Kind of odd the TJ hate you’re showing – not much of an attempt at even reporting or commentary. When he has a crap game it’s a headline story here – when he has a stud game (like last week with 6 catches and 2 TD’s), it’s somehow not noted.
So he talks a little bit, who really cares – so far, he’s been nothing but a total pro on the field. Very glad the Hawks got him. He’s tough, and he never drops the ball. He’d start for either of the Bears or Vikes.

    —————————————————–
That comment is not at all correct. If anything, they have been similar. Chad has 24 catches for 352 yards and 3. He’s averaging 70.4 yards a game, 14.7 yards a catch, and 79.2% of those catches are going for first downs. He has 7 catches over 20 yards, 1 over 40 and 19 first downs
T.J has 27 catches for 325 yards and 2 TD’s. He’s averaging 65 yards a game and 12 yards a catch, with 4 catches over 20 yards, 0 over 40, 18 first downs and 66.7% of his catches going for first downs. That’s not 1 time better than Chad, let alone 20.
All that with Cincinnati being a run first team this year. I enjoyed T.J while he was with the Bengals, but have soured on him since leaving town. He complained about the fans because people asked him for autographs, and said that when he left he wanted us to lose every single game. How childish is that, honestly? This was the only pro team he’s ever know, the only guys he’s ever practiced with and he holds a grudge like that when he CHOSE to leave, it’s not like he got ran off or was treated bad.
When T.J’s run in Seattle is over I have a feeling he’ll have plenty of negative things to say about your city and team and you’ll think of him in a different light as many of us in Cincinnati currently do.

  19. PervyHarvin says: Oct 16, 2009 10:37 PM

And for the record Dave the Dick, I’ll take Berrian,Harvin or Rice over the girly haired receiver you seem to worship. Seachickens have a stadium and no team to make it worthwhile.

  20. CanadianVikingFan says: Oct 16, 2009 10:41 PM

  21. rbais2 says: Oct 16, 2009 10:56 PM

Who is this guy, Terrell Owens?
Looks like TJ has some TO qualities.
Hopefully, he doesn’t explode in front of Seahawks Offensive Coordinator Gregg Knapp like how TO did in 2003.

  22. GoBears84 says: Oct 16, 2009 11:06 PM

    Dave the douche,
I would like to sincerely reject the wishes of good luck, and return them to your doorstep as you get smashed by the 49ers all year long….wow probably will get blown out by the Rams too…. i think its funny when ppl get on here and talk mess, and throw up stupid facts like TJ is way better than ochocinco has ever been,…..uhm…facts? nice. incorrect, next please.

  23. Dont Taze Me Bro says: Oct 16, 2009 11:10 PM

Sure the Seattle scouts liked TJ’s on field ability, but what really impressed them was his ability to whine and makes excuses about losing to the Steelers.

  24. Dave The Dude says: Oct 16, 2009 11:11 PM

    PH -
Yeah, I’m sure Housh does wish he was in Minnesota, playing for a team that hasn’t done squat in his entire lifetime in one of the most boring places on earth. Of course, with that new 75-yr-old QB you just signed, who hasn’t won a meaningful playoff game in almost 20 years (and has never won without Holmgren), I’m sure Housh wishes he was playing in Minnesota. Yeah, sure. And yeah, please do look me up at the end of the season. I’ll be laughing my ass off at your weak-ass team and it’s typical postseason failure (if you even make the postseason), and watching unsurprised as Favre throws INT after INT and blows another playoff game for another team. Hell, I’ll even make a money bet with you right now that the Vikes don’t even make it to the NFC Championship.
It’s hilarious that the Vikes finally have all the players you could need (in other words, no excuses) and you’re still going to be mediocre and your second-rate team is still going to move to Los Angeles where maybe a real owner can put a quality product on the field. Maybe, just MAYBE they’ll actually do something worth talking about then. Until that time, why don’t you go talk some smack to some other mediocre NFL team’s fans who might actually consider the Vikings relevant? (Maybe the Bears… they fit that profile)
If there’s one team in the NFL that is all hype and ZERO substance, that would definitely be the Minnesota Vikings. Right there with the Lions and Raiders for the title of longest running joke in the NFL for the last 3 decades. Congrats. You must be proud, and yeah, I’m sure any receiver with any skills whatsoever would surely want to play for your team. That’s why you guys haven’t picked up a decent (pro-bowl caliber) receiver in free agency in my lifetime, at least. Because who the hell would want to play for the sad-sack Vikings? Randy Moss got the hell out as soon as he could, and y’all haven’t been worth watching since. The only reason you’re even playing an “interesting” game this season is because, for whatever reason, some people really want to see Favre play his old team. I, frankly, could give a crap less. Sounds about as much fun as going to tip cows or whatever boring-ass crap y’all do in Minnesota (ice fishing, maybe?). Yawn. And yeah, I realize my Minnesota generalizations are probably worse than your Seattle generalizations, but ya see, nobody in America outside of Minnesota gives a crap about Minnesota and as a result, there are NO cliches about Minnesota really. It’s like a big-ass black hole in the middle of the country somewhere. The mere mention of that state is known to put meth addicts to sleep.
And what really cracks me up is listening to some yahoo from Minnesota actually trying to talk smack about the city of Seattle. Freakin’ hilarious. It’s like listening to some hick from Texas talking smack about NYC, which always cracks me up too. And your jokes about Starbucks are so clever and original. I notice you forgot to mention Nirvana, perhaps you forgot that cliche as well? Where are the jokes about Microsoft and all the millionaires who live here? Did you forget that joke as well? Yawwwwwn. I might actually care if I wasn’t so busy picking up chicks who just moved here from Minnesota or some other midwest dump.

  25. SmackMyVickUp says: Oct 16, 2009 11:28 PM

Burleson is racking up yardage just fine without asking for the ball. No need to throw to TJ.

  26. IWanttoPunchFloriointheFace says: Oct 16, 2009 11:44 PM

Just when you think there is a receiver who seems like a good guy and goes out there and busts his ass to make plays…he opens his frickin’ mouth and there’s a new diva on the loose.
Didn’t Hasselbeck just get back into the lineup last week after a couple weeks out due to injury? I don’t seem to remember Houshadouzbag complaining about Seneca not getting him the ball.
It’s really getting sickening listening to all these reggins bitchin’ about either not getting the ball or not getting paid enough…just shut up already and do your damn job!

  27. dlmcc0909 says: Oct 16, 2009 11:53 PM

Dave the Dude has to be TJ Houshmanzadeh. thats the only way his posts would make any sense. Dave are you wathcing the same games we are? This guys not producing, let alone justifying his #1 WR money hes being paid as. The guy sucks and is a crybaby. the fact that you consider him the best WR in Seattlesince Steve LArgent speaks more for the lack of quality recievers over there the last few years than anything else . The guys a bust. Thats what you get when you sign a prima donna

  28. HughJassPhD says: Oct 17, 2009 12:56 AM

What’s up with DTD’s mancrush on TJ?
TJ isn’t even the best receiver on his own team. Burleson has more yards & TDs.
Housh is still just a #2 WR.

    Faaaaaaaaarrrrrrkkk dude…
You’ve gotta be one ugly douche then.
That has to be one of the worst homer rants followed by THE worst ending to a PFT comment I have EVER seen. This deserves some type of award hey Florio?
With that kind of man-crush I think Dave should take him home and teach him how to be an open receiver… Housh can play quarterback.

  30. Lefty24 says: Oct 17, 2009 4:17 AM

The best part of this story is that his quotes are being totally taken out of context, just so Lawyer Florio can make his case against TJ.
That’s what going from written text, incapable of revealing tone of voice or mannerisms, will do for you. None of the Seattle beatwriters that actually speak to him are saying that TJ is being arrogant or selfish, so why does this blogger from the east coast think that he knows so much more about Ochocuatro?
Look, he didn’t like the way his routes were looking on film so he put in EXTRA practice time to work on them with the scout team. You do that not because you want to “feel better” physically, but to feel better about your level of performance. Besides, how many diva WR’s volunteer to run extra routes during scout team drills with the a 3rd string rookie QB?
One more thing Florio…how about YOU shut up and do YOUR job. Because if you’re going to argue that TJ isn’t doing his (despite his stats), then you aren’t doing yours either (despite the number of hits to your corporate blog).

180 yards and 2TDs over the last two weeks. This man is making no excuses. He’s playing football.
I’m no Seahawks fan but I’ve seen enough of them this season to see that Housh is playing good football and when he has a QB who can see the field he has produced.
    Dave the Dude is correct.

I am amazed that Dave the Dude was able to pull himself away from fellating Houshmandzadeh long enough to type that garbage. Now Seahawks fans are talking about the Vikings having never accomplished anything? Seriously? That team was a complete joke for about 30 years and are well on their way back to that.
“No way TJ would want to be playing on one of the 3 best teams in football when he could be playing the all powerful Seahawks”.
    Brilliant!

I’ve made my final decision. I’m taking Seattle.
