Yeah, thats why 32 teams passed on him 3 times. He “clearly” was not viewed as a 1st round pick.

Wow, thats great. Someone who doesnt work in the NFL thought he should be a 1st round pick. Guess what the people who get paid to evaluate talent for a living thought? Go on and keep on telling me that he was a first round lock because your draft publication said so. Dont bother to pay attention to what happened when actual scouts evaluated him.

typical of a raiders fan to make excuses for their sorry ass players and sorry ass team. Last season the receivers were blamed when russel sucked. now when the WHOLE team is playing poor, receivers and qb are BOTH at fault. You only want to blame Russel, and say the receivers aren’t being thrown to. Try getting sunday ticket so you can actually watch all those blacked out oakland games that will happen all season. I follow both bay teams every week, and the raiders just plain suck all around. Russel throws a lot more bad balls than good, but murphy is the only one not dropping all of the half decent passes

Bender – I’m not gonna argue woulda/coulda/shoulda – but a quick look back at how the scouts were viewing Bush before his leg break and even the months prior to the draft would be helpful for you. He was clearly viewed as a 1st round lock before the break – after the break many scouts still saw him as a viable 1st rounder. I still own publications that projected him into the 1st round on their mocks.
Alas, it only matters what the teams think. Obviously McGehee was very pleased that Buffalo thought enough of him to go for it.

Willis McGahee had season ending knee surgery going into the draft and still got picked in the first round. Thats someone who was a first round lock.

If you are going to write DHB off as a future bust for dropping a few balls this season (even though most of the balls thrown to him were awful throws), then it is only fair that you catergorize Craptree as a future bust on the grounds of him being a HUGE cancer after holding out half the year. What’s fair is fair.

I’m not going to say that DHB is a better receiver than Crabtree, that will reveal itself one way or another on the field. All I’ll say is that Davis passed on Crabtree for several reasons, speed only being one of them. They are;
- Crabtree is a comparatively slow receiver.
- Crabtree had a broken foot – worth considering on draft day when you’re talking top 10 picks. Remember Michael Bush slipped from 1st round lock to the 4th round over a broken leg.
- Crabtree never ran a full route tree, in fact his routes in college were very “sandlot”.
- Crabtree was getting a very bad reputation for being a “diva” – while DHB has a very solid character in every respect.
- Crabtree publicly dissed the Raiders organization the week before the draft.
Crabtree might turn out to be the next Jerry Rice, so I’m not defending the pick of one over the other, I’m just explaining for the morons on this board that Crabtree was not a no-brainer.
Frankly, if I were running the Raider’s draft this past year they’d have Eugene Monroe on their Oline. But I completely understand why the didn’t pick Crabtree.

swervinmervin, playing for JaMarcus Russell hasn’t stopped 4th rounder Louis Murphy from getting 6x as many catches as DHB.
Way too early to write DHB off, but he is exactly what people expected. Extremely raw and not ready to make an immediate impact.

Al Davis’ big mistake WASNT DHB over Craptree. His mistake was Russell over Calvin Johnson and Adrian Peterson 2 years ago.
Russel was a mistake, no doubt….. but DHB has 11 drops and 2 receptions out of 28 passes his way. so yeah 15 were russel’s fault. However, of the 13 that weren’t DHB only caught 2. So he has dropped nearly 85% of his catchable balls, and struggled with catching all through camp too. Whether craptree is a better pick remains to be seen, but he doesn’t have to do much to pass DHB. Yet still all signs point to 1. Cutler would have been a much better choice than russel. 2. Jeremy Maclin and Percy harvin have both proven already to be better choices than DHB. Crabtree still may be the best of them all, but that will be harder to tell until the end of the season, or even into next year since he missed so much time learning and developing. In any event, nobody can leave it just on russel’s shoulders. Yes he is playing terrible, but as a team they have far more drops than any team in the league. They would be better off playing javon washed up walker

He’ll have more catches than Heyward-Bey after just one game. Sad.
But really to be fair – DHB’s lack of catches is more on Russell than it is on Bey. Jerry Rice in his prime would only have like 15 catches max right now if he were on this current Raider team.
