King: Quinn won't be back in Cleveland in 2010

At halftime of today’s Notre Dame-USC game, Mike Florio, Peter King, and Jimmy Roberts waxed philosophic about the latest NFL news in advance of this week’s trading deadline.

One of the topics was former Golden Domer Brady Quinn, who seems to want out of Cleveland, but looks unlikely to be dealt this week because of his affordable salary.

But King doesn’t think the Browns will keep the local favorite for long.

“Whether [Quinn] goes or not [in the next week], he will not be on the Browns in 2010,” King said.  “I believe they’ve had enough of Brady Quinn — Eric Mangini and G.M. George Kokinis, the general manager.”

Wow.

This statement did not appear to be made lightly.  Even someone without the rolodex of King could look at the situation in Cleveland, and make some judgements regarding Quinn’s future there.

The Browns only gave Quinn two and a half games before putting Derek Anderson back in the lineup.  Even if they didn’t like what they saw, giving him the hook so quickly is not something you do with a true “quarterback of the future.”

King’s comment makes us wonder when and where we’ll see Quinn again, no matter how much the Browns offense struggles with Derek Anderson in the lineup.

Nice job on the halftime interview, Florio. I think King needs to learn to not interrupt you, makes him look bad.

Good thing Indianapolis didn’t think the same thing when some guy named Peyton went 3-13 his first season (…and no, I’m not suggesting that BQ will ever get in the same category. We just don’t know)

Missed the ND game today. Did King cite any sources or is this just an opinion?

The Browns traded up to the # 22 pick get Quinn after 21 other teams had passed on him.
When the Miami Dolphins passed on Quinn with the #9 pick, Dolphins fans were furious and Quinn looked shocked (on camera, on draft day).
The Dolphins instead drafted Ted Ginn Jr. who will finally prove the doubters wrong now that the Dolphins have finally found a quarterback after 10 long years.

Is this was your “rumors” site has come to: Quoting the opinion of Peter King? This site is becoming a joke since you sold out to NBC.

When will they be holding the Presser where they admit one way or the other they royaly f-cked up the situation? Or do they not have the same accountability that they demand from the scrubs who don the brown and orange every sunday?
How in the name of Bernard Joseph Kosar Jr. can you keep your job as head coach of an NFL franchise when you cant even get the choice of Field General right? If you werent satisfied with the choices you had then maybe, just maybe, you should have chosen a QB instead of trading down 3 times.

Maybe Quinn to Denver for a 4th or 5th round pick? With a refferal from his old boss Charlie Weis, Quinn might not be a bad reclamation project/understudy for McDaniels. It would be nearly the exact system with the same terminology that Quinn had at ND, and the Browns would be happy to get rid of him at ASAP considering his recent behavior (Braylon’s Shoes, the house on the market) and Mangini’s desire to clean house from the old regime in Cleveland. But maybe McGenius likes Tom Brandstater or Chris Simms better, who knows.

  16. Phenom says: Oct 17, 2009 6:41 PM

    Ralph,
What the guy meant to say was “Quinn could start tomorrow for the Raiders…and not do any worse than Russell has”. That would possibly be true, although at least Russell isn’t afraid to throw the ball over 10 yards.

  17. FinFan says: Oct 17, 2009 6:42 PM

It will be interesting to hear the doubters in Miami finally shut up if he is traded. However Ginn still needs better hands.
Now, in some opinions think he should be a brandon marshall fast and strong posession type receiver and he’s not. If it comes down to anything Ginn may look more like the marvin harrison type. Just run and catch dude.!

I still can’t understand why you guys (PFT) are always giving props to King. He’s just a blathering gas bag who loves to slurp the Mannings. But then again, you let all the commenting yokels continue to talk out their colective a$$es. Ya you slim pickens et al.

  20. swervinmervin says: Oct 17, 2009 6:54 PM

King is full of crap. I cant believe he was able to get his face out of Bellicheck and Josh McDaniel’s butts long enought to even talk about Brady Quinn.
He makes bold predictions, and then we’s wrong, we never hear him talk about it ever again. In the old days, Florio wouldve had a field day with “George Wendt” look alike Peter King. But now, you’re working together so I guess its not gonna happen.
King was owned by Mark Cuban on Twitter. I loved Cuban’s line – “Is SI even in business anymore?”

  21. bearsrule says: Oct 17, 2009 7:05 PM

When he said “I believe they’ve had enough of Brady Quinn,” King had some edge to his voice. The implication was clear. The patient is dead.

Eric likes to quote bill his mentor little man with your results. Bill bellicheck should be pissed you keep bringing him up what the hell did cleveland browns fans due to deserve this since 1999 we have nothing to be proud of the only one who is at peace is al learner and he is dead. we have to watch tomorrows you know what hell with learner , sell the dam team . p.s socccer is for fags

  25. K-Rock says: Oct 17, 2009 8:10 PM

Quinn had a 60% completion ratio against 3 of the best defenses in the league (Vikings, Broncos, and Ravens) with no running game, no TE, no defense, and no help from the coaching staff.
He will be successful in the right system.

  26. The Van Buren Boys says: Oct 17, 2009 8:21 PM

Hey Florio, I saw you on NBC today. I just wanted to compliment you on your nice brown Sears and Roebuck suit and pompadour hair!

  27. leatherneck says: Oct 17, 2009 8:36 PM

    Tim Couch and Kelly Holcomb.
    Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson.
    Nice quarterbacks, Cleveland.

  28. daffy87 says: Oct 17, 2009 8:49 PM

Tim Couch wouldn’t have been a bust on most teams. Cleveland just let him get so physically beat up it ended his career. If you recall the last time the Browns made the playoffs was the 2002 season with Tim Couch as the starting QB. Last time they beat Pittsburgh was October 2003 with Tim Couch at QB. He was actually kind of good, but had no run game and no O-line and got demolished physically.

  29. leatherneck says: Oct 17, 2009 8:51 PM

    Everyone circle your calendars.
    Browns vs Raiders, December 27.

After Romo underacheives again…..and it’s already happening…….Quinn will be the next Arlington Cowchokes QB..Mark my word……..Uncle Jerry will pay way to much for him, with the understanding that he went to the overated university to the overated NFL team……Natutal fit…..

  31. ParkerFly says: Oct 17, 2009 8:57 PM

K-Rock, that’s because he never tried to throw it down the field. He took what the defense gave him, which was his check downs. Notice how he only threw for 400 yards TOTAL in those 3 games.
Florio, please fix the login problem.

  32. JD_5280 says: Oct 17, 2009 9:17 PM

    so?

  33. pm18colts says: Oct 17, 2009 9:39 PM

OK, whatever…Cleveland’s staff calls Brady “The QB of the Future”. Then the staff gives him the job and three games later he never sees the field again. I agree with the guy earlier…Peyton Manning 3-13?
Dumb-ass coaching staff sits him w/o a fair chance to get comfortable. He may not have been doing well just then…but I’ll bet if he’d been given time he’d be running f’n circles around DA by now. Hmm…and imagine Brady Quinn wanting to leave? Three games “isn’t” a fair chance and I think Quinn deserves a shot…anywhere but Cleveland. They had there chance.

  34. mwcarolina says: Oct 17, 2009 9:59 PM

if i am the Browns i give Quinn to the Redskins and ask for a 2nd maybe 4th/5th round picks, and Washington should take it and use their first pick on a linemen.

  35. daffy87 says: Oct 17, 2009 10:21 PM

Haha, dont compare Peyton Manning’s rookie year to anything Brady Quinn has done. Peyton as a rookie threw for 3700 yards and 26 touchdowns. He was moving the ball and scoring points, yes the team lost 13 games and he had a ton of interceptions….but he was getting points on the board and racking up yards. Quinn wasn’t doing that at all. Yeah he had a high completion percentage…because will let you throw for 2 yards every play lol.

  36. trickbunny says: Oct 17, 2009 11:05 PM

  40. Jdog says: Oct 18, 2009 3:27 AM

Yeah, and we know how often the so called “analysists” get it right. At least make these comments after a game where the starting Browns quarterback doesn’t put up a 4 QB rating and goes 2 for 17 with one interception.
Seriously, reading profootballtalk.com is hysterical how you come up with these false stories. It gets idiots like me to always come back to this site thinking, what lies are they going to write up next?
FYI- Peter King’s house is now up for sale. He’ll be moving in a pink house with Mike Florio by 2011. You heard it here first.

  42. Coyle says: Oct 18, 2009 9:32 AM

If the Browns trade Quinn now we can get somebody real good on the practice squad.

  43. BeanGuy says: Oct 18, 2009 9:40 PM

Browns will probably get a number 1-5 pick in the draft. Why not keep Quinn for now, trade that pick and Quinn, along with another pick/player to sweeten for the #1 pick. Take Tim Tebow, and feature a Wildcat offense with a backfield of Anderson (yes he sucks, but he’s a bit player in this plan), Cribbs, and Tebow. Holy catz, how do you defend against that?
    What’s wrong with this scenario?
