In aftermath of Titans disaster, signs point to Vince

Other than that, how did you enjoy the play Mrs. Lincoln?

After his team was vivisected 59-0 by the Patriots on Sunday, Jeff Fisher said the team’s demeanor was, “Less than celebratory.”

Fisher was matter-of-fact in his postgame discussion of what went wrong against the Patriots (everything) and what lies next (Vince Young?) for the 0-6 Titans who head to their bye week.

(We could say that they already started their week off but that would be too easy.)

“Fortunately for me, I’ve never been through anything like this before,” said Fisher. “It happened tonight. I can assure, it’s not gonna happen again. We’re very disappointed and embarrassed to say the least. We lost to a very good football team. But that wasn’t us out there.”

Asked if he was concerned about his job status, Fisher said, “I’m gonna keep fighting. I’m just gonna keep working. The staff didn’t forget how to coach in the offseason. This doesn’t happen. You don’t forget how to coach overnight.”

Fisher said he would not address “the quarterback situation” but after a game in which the Titans had -7 gross passing yards (the first team since the AFL-NFL merger to finish with less than zero), it might be time to.

Vince Young did cleanup work for Kerry Collins, coming in when it was 59-0, throwing two passes. One fell incomplete. The other was intercepted.

It’s almost a certainty that Young starts after the bye against the Jaguars. Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt told me before the game that the Titans had to “do something” to address Young’s 2010 situation. He has a roster bonus of $4 million due in early March and Reinfeldt said that at some point the team needs to know what they have in Young before handing him that dough or moving on from him.

Current quarterback Kerry Collins, meanwhile, said, “I’m not going to say anything at this point. It assume I’m the quarterback of this team. I still feel like I am the quarterback of this team and this is my team. I feel like I give us a chance to win when I go out there.”
