Packers lose Clifton, again

Though the Green Bay Packers are handling the Lions at Lambeau, the “Baby Swiss” offensive line continues to struggle.

And now a hole that had been plugged has been reopened.

Tackle Chad Clifton, who missed the last two games with an ankle injury, has been injured again.

He has been replaced by T.J. Lang.

For the day, Baby Swiss has surrendered 5.0 sacks to the Lions.

I put this squarely on offensive line coach James Campen. These guys don’t even know who they’re supposed to be blocking.
Most of the penalties are on the Oline too. Rodgers is gonna get killed one of these games.
Everytime we get in the red zone, the Loins blitz and we end up having to kick a FG. Except for the one where Rodgers lost the ball and the Loins recovered.

  2. Fan_Of_ Four says: Oct 18, 2009 3:54 PM

And Rosenthall thinks the Packers are going to Tag Clifton next year. Clifton’s body is shot.

  3. footballrulz says: Oct 18, 2009 3:54 PM

5 sacks–To the LIONS!! 3 trips to the red zone–9 points. This game should be so far out of reach that FOX goes to another game.
How long do you keep relying on Clifton & Tauscher? Get an O-line for goodness sake. 8 penalties in the 1st half–4 on Clifton AFTER the bye week. My God that’s pathetic. Pack needs to make some moves before Tuesday & getting rid of Kampman does not need to be one of them.
Did see some improvement in other areas though. Play calling to get the ball out of Rodgers hands faster & receivers not dropping anywhere near as many balls.
Running game improved but still sporadic.
(Cheap, cheap personal foul call on Donald Driver).
Course all this improvement could be for naught-it is against the Lions. GB, most likely will have a nother mediocre year. 8-8 at BEST probably 5-11 or 6-10—-AGAIN. God, I hope this is TT’s last year.

  4. lebowski says: Oct 18, 2009 4:00 PM

Love the ‘Baby Swiss’ moniker! Clifton not only didn’t solve the sack problem, he was called for three penalties in a game where the Packers were penalized way too many times. TJ Lang looks really good in there, the Pack could actually run the ball with him at tackle. Clifton might be done.

  5. DocBG says: Oct 18, 2009 4:24 PM

Hey moron, keep in mind that they are running against a gassed detroit defense……. don’t get your hopes up with TJ Lang.

  6. jamesz23 says: Oct 18, 2009 4:27 PM

I agree I think Clifton may be finished. Aaron Kampman can fully expect the franchise tag to be used on him not Clifton. TJ Lang actually looks like a good OLineman drafted by TT, I didn’t think that was possible.

TJ Lang looked good, but I won’t get too excited…as indicated, the Lions were gassed and came into the game shorthanded on the d-line anyway.
Either way, I think TJ Lang will be more successful than this shifting Colledge from the guard spot to tackle.
I don’t expect Clifton back next year, he’s done. Too old, too banged up, and is a constant source of penalty yardage.
And yeah, that seemed like a pretty baloney Unnecessary Roughness against Driver…that and the low cut block penalty against Poppinga (who slipped and fell into the guy’s knees). Oh well, didn’t impact anything.

Also, no excuses from me.. 6-0 is impressive, respect. You have a very solid team. Now if only you could draft some new fans instead of the fairweather hypocrites (and by that I mean you) you guys have now..

  13. jamesz23 says: Oct 18, 2009 5:19 PM

Its hard to watch that OLine – just think Mark Tauscher may come off the street and be the best 1 on the field for the Packers in a few weeks. I wonder if the results would be different under a good line coach like we once had in Larry Beightol? It seemed like he developed low round guys like Marco Rivera, Tauscher into above average players – unlike James Campen.
And Ryan Grant – is nothing special- dropped pass again today, getting caught from behind (something that never happened 2 years ago). Some teams backups would be better than Grant.
On a positive note Clay Matthews has looked very good- I’d like to see the Pack take more USC players in the future.

And hey, how dare you call me a fairweather after sticking with the Vikes through all these years!! Finally get a good start to the season and your gonna accuse me of being fairweather? Child please. Looking fwd to the rematch in WI. Here is cheering for those dirty birds tonight.

“VIKES ARE 6-0!!!!!!! Now gimme a bunch of excuses for why we shouldn’t be.”
There is really nothing to be proud of for the Vikings 6-0 record mainly due to the fact that they blew another big lead and they allowed over 380 passing yards…..again.
and what I said is no excuse. It’s the truth. The Saints are by far the best team in the NFC, maybe in the NFL.

Keep LYAO all the way to a LOTTERY PICK!!!! Like I give 2 cents what you call it!
Good on Cutler having a pussy, that is REAL funny. Come up with anything to distract you from the fact that you WILL BE the cellar of the NFC north next year
LIke I said, I don’t even live in the country so I could care 2 cents about selling the dome out. Maybe you guys should worry more about your w-l record, your O-line, your management, and a whole lot of other things before you worry about the Vikes selling their Dome out!!! That is funny, You are 3rd in the division and the best you can come up with…selling our Dome out. Ouch, that hurts. HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

  21. Majik Man says: Oct 19, 2009 1:12 AM

    1mge,
Cutler has a point. You’re clinging to stupid things because your team is struggling. Can’t sell out the dome, blah blah. I’m pretty sure every home game has been a sellout since ’98.
And Green Bay may sell out every game, but check eBay and stubhub, because all of the loyal Packer Backers are conducting a fire sale of their tickets, a lot of them barely selling above face value. There’s something to take pride in, just like that 2009 Preseason Championship.

The OL gave up another 5 sacks, lost it best lineman. 13 penalties, again!!
Over rated huh? Minnesota played a playoff caliber team and won, yet you still won’t give them any credit? I wouldn’t think you would, I’m sure your nursing a pathetic excuse for a hard on over this blowout win.

  26. Ambrose says: Oct 19, 2009 10:10 AM

The Packers are not impressing anyone and still have only two losses, by only seven points each. The Vikings may have a “sun, moon, and stars are all aligned” type of season in the works, which is usually what happens when you finally get your shot at a SB.
But……they are still one lucky hail-mary and one lucky missed FG away from having two losses as well.
I’m not impressed (yet.) There is a lot of season remaining and the Vikings have to step it up if they think they can hang.

Hey, chickenshit. Nice to see you again. Say, what’s Troy Aikman’s rankings have to say about the Vikings’ defense yesterday?
You’re still slurping that grape kool-aid? Don’t look now, but the Vikings defense is no longer ranked in the top half of the league.
    Here’s the division:
    #8 – Packers – 18.6 pts/game, 298 yards/game
    #13 – Bears – 19.8 pts/game, 306 yards/game
    #18 – Vikings – 20.2 pts/game, 342 yards/game
    #28 – Lions – 31.3 pts/game, 371 yards/game
And for all those with reading comprehension problems, no. I’m NOT saying the Packers have a great defense. I’m just saying the Vikings defense is not playing up to the level they’ve been at the last few years. And they’re winning games on offense (and partially by luck).
Time for chickenturd to explain it away by saying that the Ravens scored all those points late in the game while the Vikings were on gool, right? It was clearly “garbage time” when Baltimore took a slim lead. Those points and yards don’t count.

    Vikes d 18 record 6-0
    Packs d 8 record 3-2
    Bears d 13 record 3-2
    Lions d 28 record 1-5
Stats don’t mean a whole hell of a lot when it comes down to the records, does it?
Hell Ben Pizzaburger was like the 21st rated passer last year, yet he led the Steelers to a Super Bowl title.
Vikings were lucky yesterday, once again they should have had the game in hand, but stopped playing defense. Ravens are a good team. They deserved to lose, but they didn’t, I’ll take any win I can get though.
As for the “obscure” Aikman ratings…You must be living under a rock to not know what those ratings are.
By the way, what is wrong with winning games on offense?
Beer: Yep there are alot of trolls on both sides, And, it looks as if i have one following me where ever I go In Adam here.

The Vikes could go 16-0 and win the bowl and it still wouldn’t be good enough for the likes of Ambrose and Adam, ” it still wouldn’t prove anything”

  32. Adam-Chris Scheftersen says: Oct 19, 2009 4:08 PM

Here’s the way quotes work, chickendick.. You put things people actually said (or typed) inside of them. Then you prove them wrong. You don’t put “it still wouldn’t prove anything” in quotes unless someone actually said (or typed) that.
Given that you still haven’t done your homework from the Tauscher thread I realized you don’t know how quotes work. So now I’ve laid it out for you.
Anyway, as to your incessant proclamation of making me look like a fool.. How, exactly? I said the Vikings defense is not playing that well. You blustered and stammered and came up with other rankings to try to prove me wrong. I pointed out that Vikings defensive players were saying the same thing I was. You slurped some kool-aid and didn’t acknowledge it. Now when faced with the hard numbers your response is, “By the way, what is wrong with winning games on offense?” See, that’s how quotes work.
Here’s another example of quotes at work:
    “Adam-Chris Scheftersen says:
    October 13, 2009 10:14 AM
You fail to realize that their defense is not very good. Last year they won games because of their defense. This year they’re winning games because of their offense.”
Hmm. Sounds like I said they were winning games because of their offense a week ago and you’re just coming around to it now.
Yes, they’re 6-0 and that’s very good. In fact, I don’t think you can do better than that. I’ll have to check the math and get back to you. And Favre has played well and within the system. But they have not put everything together. In spite of the pressure they put on the opposing QB, the pass defense is very bad. They allowed Rodgers to pass for 384 and Flacco to pass for 385. Roethlisberger put up over 400 this week. He’s got to be salivating.

Stats are made to be twisted any way you want them to be.
just because you do not agree with the Aikman ratings does not make them less plausabile.
They actually take things into consideration, besiseds yardage.
The Vikes pass defense leaves alot to be desired yes, but they won, who cares?
If they are 6-0 w/o putting everything together, the rest of the league should be very afraid IF they ever do.
I hope you can someday come to grips with the fact that I pissed you off on purpose, if not, it’s more entrtainment for me.

The only reason I’ve kept bashing the queens’ defense is because you tried so hard (while guzzling the kool-aid) to explain it away.
    1) They’re blowouts and those are garbage yards.
Answer: Many other teams have been in more blowouts and they have not given up nearly as much yardage as the queens.
    2) But yards don’t matter.
Answer: Nice try, fagbag. That must explain why the Vikings have made two of the last three QBs to play against them look like Dan Marino. And remember Greenway said the same thing as me.
    3) Who cares how bad the defense is? They’re winning.
Answer: You’ll care when they stop winning, and knowledgeable fans would care right now. If I had your attitude I’d say, “Who cares that the Lions got 5 sacks against the Packers? They won.” Sounds pretty stupid, right?

Idiot, the point Beer is making, is it shouldn’t have gotten to this point in the 1st place!!
How do you not comprehend this shit?
    Yards! yards! yards!
You are like a dog with it’s favorite chew toy.
Let it go, it hasn’t cost them yet, yes it concerns me, bur look they can play .500 ball the rest of the year and still be 11-5!
You won’t listen to reason. Yes, they gave up alot of yards to the Rams….BUT ONLY 10 POINTS!!!
Red zon defense, turnovers etc all play into the defense.
Yep they lucked out with Baltimore. I won’t use injuries as an excuse, but as you fondly like to bring up with your OL(back-ups, playing out of position) Paymah is their 3rd CB.
Winfield being out had A LOT to do with the yardage, check the stats while he was in versus when he was out.
Any way, I won’t use that excuse. I don’t expect 16-0, they will lose.
I’m not explaining anything away you imbecile.
I shouldn’t have to defend 6-0. 6-0 speaks for itself.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to wait for the supposed collapse of Favre and my team.
LOL…keep praying that happens, I have never seen a fanbase root harder for a team to lose, rather than root for their team to win.
Only in Wisconsin. You pray for the trainwreck, because that is the packers only chance.
P.S. no offense intended to MOST other Packer fans. This guy is just a life idiot.
